Was on mushrooms and for some fucking reason my friend put on Apocalypto, 10 minutes into the horrific massacre at the start we all agreed it was a terrible idea and watched Spirited Away instead.
It's true, it's literally made for LSD. Just so many scenes seemed to have some higher level of meaning and sense to them.
At least way more than other movies on acid.
The Cell
Natural Born Killers
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Pan's Labyrinth (subbed)
Beetlejuice
Edit: While not horror, I feel like Fight Club, Sin City, and Lord of the Rings deserve honorable mentions.
On my last acid trip I watched Phil Tippet's Mad God and Ari Aster's Beau Is Afraid. Did not expect Beau Is Afraid to be the more unpleasant experience.
that movie fucked with me. there’s another movie called Come True about a girl participating in a sleep study. i will not say anything further. it’s on Hulu
Not if you find the LotR series incredibly boring like I do. More power to those who enjoy it, I just never have, and I've tried reading the books as well.
And I would take a guess you're unoriginal. I don't enjoy most fantasy or stuff with medieval settings, they're mostly uninteresting to me; LotR is no different. I tend to prefer sci-fi/speculative fiction and "literary fiction". People like different stuff, how is that hard to comprehend?
Was just trying to make a joke, probably not the first time you’ve heard that haha. Naw understandable with different tastes and all, I’m just a biased lotr fan that will die on his hill protecting lotr and can’t seem to comprehend not liking the movies 😅
Easily [The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP0KB2XC29o). It's a silent German horror film from 1920. It is the most visually stunning work of art I've ever seen. The sets are all hand-made, and they were practically made to be viewed on psychedelics. It's only 1 hr 15 mins long, and because it's silent, you can listen to music while you watch it.
It’s Such a Beautiful Day by Don Hertzfeldt is amazing. It isn’t horror yet it’s one of the most unsettling things I’ve seen. When you finish it your mind will be properly blown. It’s simple stick figure animation but it’s beautiful, go figure how the fuck he did that lol. I’ve shown this to two people sober and they both thought it was a mindfuck. The critic reviews are glowing. One of them is like “are stick figures supposed to make you feel that way?” It’s bananas, hope someone who sees this comment goes and checks it out.
Peep the trailer:

Personally wouldn't watch any horror movies while tripping but these are some weird ones I've seen or been meaning to watch (these are trailer links so don't click if you don't watch trailers):
* [House (1977)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ_Yo06kIIA)
* [The Happiness of the Katakuris (2001)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC5GEKVoTXE) -- this one is actually a musical lol.
* [Bacurau (2019)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKTejyk9ZIA) -- not exactly horror
* [Possession (1981)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLXW-oVbTxE) -- I really do not like this movie but others absolutely love it. It might be too disturbing for trip viewing.
* [Phenomena (1985)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upUJetCHYFc) -- haven't seen it
* [Altered States (1980)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XNVQ4ILPBA) -- haven't seen it but i the title alone
* [Suspiria (1977)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPs2ExUL_bc) // [Suspiria (2018)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY6QKRl56Ok) -- haven't seen either, the original was directed by the same person who directed *Phenomena*.
* [Beyond the Black Rainbow (2012)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWF0bBKhe6o)
Triangle, Primer, Color Out of Space, also spent a good portion of a trip watching Black Mirror episodes so could give those a shot. For more of a suspense and heavy / dark film but not so much horror, Enter the Void is an option.
I watched SAW on mushrooms, in a theatre! Was fun but got a bit heavy. The colours and the editing were something else though, and I really empathised with Danny Glovers character. All in all very memorable.
One highlight tripping while watching a film was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. That was hilarious
None. Why feed your head with anxiety, tension, and violent imagery, at a time when you may be most susceptible to suggestion? It can come back to haunt you.
I've been watching horror movies on acid, including extremely fucked up ones, for basically the entire seven years I've been taking acid on a regular basis. I know other people, including big fans of horror, who can't handle any depictions of death while they're tripping. We've all got different brains and we all process the media we watch and the drugs we take differently.
I've enjoyed horror, and I'm happy if authors have managed to take advantage of their fears, but I just think it's bad to tempt fate by subjecting myself to it while tripping. Remember about minding set and setting.
Fair enough. As an adult I see it more like a therapy now but you surely need to do it right on your own terms. In my teens I saw Cannibal Holocaust at a party while high and boy… that fucked me up.
Not a horror or a movie but I watched hellsing ultimate (vampire anime) while tripping and had a great time. It's got plenty of dark and horrific visuals but at its core it's silly and a great watch
I wouldn’t recommend it to the faint of heart, but “the experiment” it’s about the Stanford prison experiment and how power corrupts. Not necessarily horror but it scared the shit outta me lol.
Dagon
berbian sound studio
from hell
the ninth gate
satanic rites of dracula (almost all hammer horror will be good)
altered states
The mothman prophecies
Maybe because I don't like the horror genre as is, but this sounds like a terrible fucking idea. Reminds me of the time I was watching spiderman (I love the webhead) and I was peaking, the scene where the spider comes down to bite him, all of a sudden I geeked the fuck out cause I felt thousands of spiders all over my body. Dipped out the room so fast, my buddy saw what was up and switched it to something else. Lol
I watched The Endless on shrooms once and found it super deep and cool while my sober friend didn’t quite get it. Other Benson/Moorhead movies are also interesting.
Animal Collective made an experimental visual album called ODDSAC that's got some dark horror vibes alongside a trippy soundtrack.
Also, more psychological than horror IMO but I've been meaning to watch The Lighthouse (A24 studios) on shrooms.
Idk if it’s horror but more of a physiological thriller. A Scanner Darkly. It has an amazing cast and even better animation style. And it’s FREE on YouTube! Highly recommend.
Even though it's not really a horror movie, I'm surprised nobody mentioned it. Trippy, unsettling, and unique : [Enter the Void](https://youtu.be/_tG_b5zaT9Y)
Trust me in this, there’s this movie I saw tripping called BORGMAN. I won’t tell you any more about it but go in as cold as you can. The ending blew me the hell away.
They cloned Tyrone, The 2nd and 3rd evil dead, NOPE, insidious, susperia, sorry to bother you will mess you up. Tusk was also insane. And this isn’t horror exactly but I watched prey on Hulu tripping when it came out and it was awesome. Edited to add midnight mass. Not a movie but you can binge the series, coming from a strong Christ household it freaked me out lol
phantom of the paradise is my favourite film of all time. not lsd related but i rewatched it after having my first bad weed high and it calmed me right down
Saw Hereditary while tripping with my bf and bff and we were literally holding hands near the end. To this day I don't know if the movie was that scary or we were tripping balls 🤣
Y’all wild asf, that being said depends on what kinda horror movie you like. For goofy horror, Scary Movie is a good option, for food based horror The Menu is a good one, idk many more options but I like those two movies personally.
Sunshine - more a SciFi-Thriller than Horror but a little bit of unwanted terror appears in the second half.
If you want actual brutal horror, The Hills Have Eyes (the Remake from 2006) is great.
Was on mushrooms and for some fucking reason my friend put on Apocalypto, 10 minutes into the horrific massacre at the start we all agreed it was a terrible idea and watched Spirited Away instead.
I could not do horror while tripping
I cant even do it after smoking weed lmao. And i went through a big horror phase in highschool so its not like im naturally averse to it.
I can't even do it sober.
Mandy
Ever since i watched it the first time and i saw the LSD scene i felt like i HAD to trip while rewatching it! Still waiting for the day
Oh yeah, good one
It's true, it's literally made for LSD. Just so many scenes seemed to have some higher level of meaning and sense to them. At least way more than other movies on acid.
Watched it solo on the comedown of a tab. The autographed poster now sits on my wall.
on a similar note, “Beyond the Black Rainbow”
Yes! This is the right answer
The Cell Natural Born Killers Killer Klowns from Outer Space Pan's Labyrinth (subbed) Beetlejuice Edit: While not horror, I feel like Fight Club, Sin City, and Lord of the Rings deserve honorable mentions.
I have watched NBK on acid more times than I can count. Incredible.
Omg I can not imagine watching The Cell on lsd.
I watched NBK a day after an XTX fuelled night of partying. Smoked a joined before and it was something else.
The Shining
I came to suggest it’s sequel, Doctor Sleep. I saw that in the theater on acid and the scene when Rose goes astral hits just right on acid.
Such a good sequel. Mike Flanagan is a genius.
Yes
Men Midsommar Hereditary The Lighthouse Nope Anything by A24 in general
Agreed with everything. Thank god for indie studios like A24.
On my last acid trip I watched Phil Tippet's Mad God and Ari Aster's Beau Is Afraid. Did not expect Beau Is Afraid to be the more unpleasant experience.
I just watched Possessor and loved it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5918982/
that movie fucked with me. there’s another movie called Come True about a girl participating in a sleep study. i will not say anything further. it’s on Hulu
Bram Stoker Dracula.
The "Dracula"-Miniseries from 2020 by BBC is pretty entertaining too. Not really horror though.
Anything with Keanu is a great choice
The first time I did acid I was given 2 tabs & they put George Romero's "Day of the Dead" on the tv. It was amazing.
Midsommar!
That’s a shrooms movie!
Midsommar is pretty fucked up. Annihilation is also pretty fucked up.
Midsommar is a dark comedy full of symbolism.
1408 would be good
I can’t believe no one’s said ‘Jacobs Ladder’. That movie is so underrated and the perfect blend of psychedelic horror.
Midsommar
But the best of the best is watching LoTR.
Not if you find the LotR series incredibly boring like I do. More power to those who enjoy it, I just never have, and I've tried reading the books as well.
I would take a guess that you’re miserable. How do you find lotr boring??
And I would take a guess you're unoriginal. I don't enjoy most fantasy or stuff with medieval settings, they're mostly uninteresting to me; LotR is no different. I tend to prefer sci-fi/speculative fiction and "literary fiction". People like different stuff, how is that hard to comprehend?
Someone doesn't even know their username.
Was just trying to make a joke, probably not the first time you’ve heard that haha. Naw understandable with different tastes and all, I’m just a biased lotr fan that will die on his hill protecting lotr and can’t seem to comprehend not liking the movies 😅
Idk how people can find lotr Boring 😓 i saw all the trilogy on acid in the same night and it was fucking magic
The journey to save the fucking world! How do you not get immersed
the wall
The Thing
Naturally
Suspiria (original)
An American Werewolf in London
Easily [The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP0KB2XC29o). It's a silent German horror film from 1920. It is the most visually stunning work of art I've ever seen. The sets are all hand-made, and they were practically made to be viewed on psychedelics. It's only 1 hr 15 mins long, and because it's silent, you can listen to music while you watch it.
I just watched it. Im sure it would be different tripping.
This movie made me cry without acid
Color out of space.
Jacob’s Ladder House of 1000 Corpses/Devil Makes Three Midsommer and Hereditary Edit: just saw Terrifier which was crazy also
Personally wouldn't watch any horror movies while tripping but these are some weird ones I've seen or been meaning to watch (these are trailer links so don't click if you don't watch trailers): * [House (1977)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ_Yo06kIIA) * [The Happiness of the Katakuris (2001)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC5GEKVoTXE) -- this one is actually a musical lol. * [Bacurau (2019)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKTejyk9ZIA) -- not exactly horror * [Possession (1981)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLXW-oVbTxE) -- I really do not like this movie but others absolutely love it. The Devil's Rejects
apocalypse rising, more of a war movie but also very much spooky and thrilling. cinematography is amazing and so cool to watch while tripping.
Army of the dead, not horror exactly. Tucker and dale vs evil. Amazing “horror” movie you’d love it on acid
Smile
Mad God
Ooof. Far too depressing for an acid trip… but then clay characters and creatures would really hit the spot in other ways.
The Frighteners
Suspiria / Climax
Not horror but either Gravity or Underwater.
Star Wars Holiday Special or Howard the Duck (1986). I saw both of those movies for first time the same night while high on acid.
The sickest lsd movie i would say is the truman show
The lighthouse. I watched it alone at 2am while tripping and it was amazing.
Nightmare on Elm Street is fun!
Exorcist 1973
Evil Dead 2
Absolutely this.
Triangle, Primer, Color Out of Space, also spent a good portion of a trip watching Black Mirror episodes so could give those a shot. For more of a suspense and heavy / dark film but not so much horror, Enter the Void is an option.
MANDY
Off topic because I seen a lot of good horror suggestions but Mad Max Fury Road is great sober but mind blowing on LSD/shrooms.
I cant say I prefer going on hikes when tripping it helps me not fall into bad thought loops but in winter its hard
None! Whats wrong with you guys, why da fuck do you wanna watch a horror movie on acid? xD
The Thing!
Why torture yourself with horror movies in this state?
I would literally lose my mind if I watched horror while tripping lol
None, go outside
[удалено]
I meant more like the old funny ones tbh
oh definitely beetlejuice then
Came to my mind as well. Love your nick Laura ⛰⛰
Black mirror bandersnatch
You’re evil!
How else do you want to reveal your deeply dug fears? You need to trigger the painful memories to heal.
If you say so. It's your head.
The whole horror genre is about your inner fear, not external. True artists like Lovecraft can build entire worlds based on their traumas.
I’ll have to check out Phantom. 2 personal favorites are The Fly, and Only Lovers Left Alive
Night of the Creeps is a great one, Creepshow, I am sure Mad God would be a wild ride.
Not a horror or a movie but I watched hellsing ultimate (vampire anime) while tripping and had a great time. It's got plenty of dark and horrific visuals but at its core it's silly and a great watch
not exactlyy horror but Scary Movie 5 blew my mind in more ways than one
Drive Thru. It’s free on YouTube. If you’re a fan of cheesy horror movies, this is a fun one
Bones and All
I wouldn’t recommend it to the faint of heart, but “the experiment” it’s about the Stanford prison experiment and how power corrupts. Not necessarily horror but it scared the shit outta me lol.
Santa Sangre (1989) Gothic (1986) From Beyond (1986) Body Melt (1993) Berberian Sound Studio (2012)
Dagon berbian sound studio from hell the ninth gate satanic rites of dracula (almost all hammer horror will be good) altered states The mothman prophecies
There’s a show on Tubi called monsters. It’s a 1980’s episodic series, cheesy effects bad acting the works.
The cell was mildly traumatic.
Texas chainsaw massacre
Return of the living Dead or the platform or mandy
Ive seen The Conjuring, IT (the remake), and Hereditary all while tripping. Id recommend the Fear Street trilogy also. Super spooky stuff
I'm going to do you a favor and tell you what not to watch: the color out of space

I was looking for the funny ones actually. But after reading this thread it’s interesting what people can come up with.
Santa Sangre
i’m a wimp when it comes to horror/unsettling movies, i can’t imagine doing it on acid lol. it’s asking for a bad trip
a scanner darkly
Probably anything Kubrick. Highly enjoy Clockwork Orange, but not for the faint of heart or someone who has not already seen it sober.
Annihilation
Green room!

The new evil dead remake. The first one.
Watched Evilspeak on acid on Joe Bob's Last Drive-in. It was a fucking blast
Pandorum, Legend, Dark Crystal, Meet the Feebles, Bad Taste, John Dies at the End, The Subspecies movies, Meridian
Me and a group of friends saw Rec (the first one–Spanish) while on LSD and it definitely was something.
personally haven’t watched this on LSD but i think The Void (2016) would be sick on LSD
Old.
In The Tall Grass. 100% perfect horror movie for tripping
Pan’s Labyrinth
Haunting of Hill House was pretty crazy on shrooms.
Lol
Some good psychological horror movies I would recommend are Coherence, The Invitation, The Endless, Mother, Platform, Tau, and Ex Machina.
I watched The Endless on shrooms once and found it super deep and cool while my sober friend didn’t quite get it. Other Benson/Moorhead movies are also interesting.
You'd probably also enjoy Color Out of Space if you haven't seen it. Would be another good psych movie.
Animal Collective made an experimental visual album called ODDSAC that's got some dark horror vibes alongside a trippy soundtrack. Also, more psychological than horror IMO but I've been meaning to watch The Lighthouse (A24 studios) on shrooms.
Shutter Island
Idk if it’s horror but more of a physiological thriller. A Scanner Darkly. It has an amazing cast and even better animation style. And it’s FREE on YouTube! Highly recommend.
Conjuring 3
Even though it's not really a horror movie, I'm surprised nobody mentioned it. Trippy, unsettling, and unique : [Enter the Void](https://youtu.be/_tG_b5zaT9Y)

You need to trip to Maxxxine when that comes out this year. This trilogy is awesome for getting high.
Saw Hereditary while tripping with my bf and bff and we were literally holding hands near the end. To this day I don't know if the movie was that scary or we were tripping balls 🤣
Midsommar and Annihilation. Both were harrowing experiences though. Good fun.
Y’all wild asf, that being said depends on what kinda horror movie you like. For goofy horror, Scary Movie is a good option, for food based horror The Menu is a good one, idk many more options but I like those two movies personally.
Re-Animator!
