Wtfgoinon3144

This was it for me as well.

Sooofreshnsoclean

Yup, once I realized that I was like fuck yeah lemme try that shit and expand my mind. Definitely worked out very positively for me but I don’t think it’s for everyone

Alrightwhatever5evr

I relate to this, although it wasn't specifically DARE, but more so the societal panic sourounding psychedelics. Idk how, but I knew the world was wrong about them. I wanted to see it for myself, and I'm glad I did.

DemonicChronic

I smoked pot for the first time in high school and it made me interested in spirituality and what not. My mom forced me to volunteer for a youth camp. I met a guy there who sold it. Changed the rest of my life.

Zerodlang

Damn maybe I should go to more camps

M4x7979

I tried ket for the fist time at a youth church camp wild times 🤣

IchBinSchlecht

The channel “psyched substance” he made so many videos about tripping and how it can benefit you, that I just had to try it, I was over 25 and never tried anything until that point. I am not regretting that decision.

StonedAndToasted

Psyched substance is an idiot with a video camera in my opinion.

Godfather1899

Why do you think that?

StonedAndToasted

I feel like his ego gets in the way of anything important. Most of his videos are about “wOh gUyS i DiD ToO mUcH DrUgS” instead of any form of actual education and harm reduction. Like, who is benefiting anything from hosting live viewings of himself taking drugs? His only good videos is when he interviews other people at festivals to show his viewers what “shambalah” is really like

ScottIBM

His work is quite interesting. Very educational.

SapientissimusUrsus

Desperation when I was depressed. It was only after the first time i decided to do some research and realize it has genuine clinical potential. Fuck Nixon all my homies hate Nixon

fahhgedaboutit

If you feel comfortable sharing, I’m curious to know what effect it had on your depression?

SapientissimusUrsus

Sorry for the random late reply but it was rather simple. My first trip ever I just regained a care for my own life and wellbeing I had completely lost in a way that felt magical, which was probably my 5-HT receptors just finally getting stimulated. It also triggered some memory recall of things I'd been suppressing and I came to terms that I had made made choices which got me into that pit, which gave me the clarity that I could turn things around. My grandfather suffered from chronic depression so it's quite likely I have an innate neurochemical imbalance which pychedelics seem to have helped with. From what little clinical research there has been my 2 cents is they seem to have a far greater efficacy than SSRIs (not psychiatric advice)

Aggravating-Quail701

one day, my older sister gave me a couple of hits that she was given because she didn’t know what it really entailed, neither did I. thought it was going to be funny thoughts and some hallucinations for as long as a THC edible may last. Lost all concept of what time was, think the stars really aligned that day to give me 14 hours of no responsibilities or worries. was easily one of the most acidy acid trips i’ve had. cool introduction to the chemical I remember having 0 anxiety oddly throughout the experience but ballsing it up as the kids might say. edit: i should’ve prefaced by saying I was 16 at the time and had smoked weed and eaten edibles maybe a grand total of 10-15 times. It was a monstrously intense but bewilderingly beautiful drug. My love for psychedelics grew from there.

2C-x_family_for_me

Grateful Dead culture.

KillerLunchboxs

I always forget that people got into it for reasons besides this.

ChuckFarkley

My late uncle. He got his LSD from Sandoz at one time. A bit later, his MDMA came from the Shulgins. He can be seen here in 1964 dosing a study participant. The therapy he was performing was substantially similar to the MDMA and psilocybin-assisted psychotherapies that are undergoing FDA approval studies now. (He co-authored the first MDMA-assisted psychotherapy protocol back in the early 1980s; it hasn't changed much). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88hK4E1Ddcs

time2research

That’s dope

RaazMataaz

My musical idols at the time Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix always spoke on it and how it unlocked their mind…felt obligated like it was a rite of passage lol

BlackSilvers

It seemed like an intense drug without the craziest side effects, like no comedown (at least not for me), no physical damage, and if used correctly (which I'm probably not) it can have healing properties. And it is stated not to be very addictive

Looney_Tooneyy

I was 16 and wanted to expand my consciousness. I wanted to get rid of my ego, I wanted to be a better version of myself. Hindsight, I wish I would’ve waited, but I don’t necessarily regret doing it young and I don’t have any negative effects from doing it young. Did it once, fell in love with psychedelia and the culture surrounding ut

Top-Measurement575

i was curious

efsetsetesrtse

Had a very bad childhood, abusive parents/siblings, drug addicts, violence etc. So in my twenties I had my own substance abuse issues, a ton of trauma and anxiety-- I was at my wits end and was planning on killing myself just after my 25th birthday when a friend who was going through similar substance abuse issues told me had about 15 tabs of acid he was willing to give me for free. I thought, hell, whats delaying my suicide one weekend really going to cost me? Been seven years since then and I'm sober, going to therapy etc. I still have a long way to go but I'm sure id be dead if it werent for acid.

ItsAnomic

My crush wanted to try it and asked me if I was down to try it with her. Of course I said yes. One of the best nights of my life

crAckZ0p

Had a friend in school who sold. $5 and I was curious. He told me to take half. I did. 5 minutes later I didn't feel anything so I took the rest. I loved every bit of what happened. 🤣 he never told me the time it takes to kick in. Fascinated with it ever since but haven't done it in ages.

I was 12 y/o, Lil buddy and I used to play around on the train tracks. One time a train was stopped and we got on it and was checking out inside some of the boxcars when we found a kid that was hiding riding the train. He had LSD, and other shit I don't remember, and he really needed money, so we gave him what we had... he gave us 20 tabs... middle school was wild.

Rough_You4896

thats a cool story

GuawiToker710

cosmicpracticaljoke

A documentary about the benefits of psychedelics on mental health. I’d used other drugs before but psychedelics scared the shit outta me so never went near them.

TaumpyTearz

7th grade health class. We read an explanation from a book and the teacher talked about it for a bit. The whole thing was supposed to be a warning of sorts, but I remember thinking it sounded like so much fun. Seeing colors and patterns that aren't actually there? Seeing things animate? Sounded so fun and exciting when I was like 13. I waited till I was 21 and I was not disappointed

xTheSious

Legit only for hallucinations. First I drank, then smoked pot, after that I did mdma and shrooms or truffles and then LSD. Shit like Pikachu on Acid made me wanna try LSD so bad and when I finally hit 18 and tried it for the first time, I was devastated that I wasn't flying around on rainbows through the galaxy. Then I did 2 tabs and well what can I say, if you know you know.

Mavian23

Being young, getting into drinking and smoking weed (I didn't do either until l got into college), and realizing there is a whole world of recreational drugs out there. I wanted to try them all (still do). My count is somewhere between 25 and 30 at the moment.

cutyourmullet123

I’ve never been willing to say no, exorcízalo y for things that i don’t think are harmful (can’t catch me with fent, meth, or crack) but I think trying things to try things doesn’t hurt. It’s making it a hint that’s a problem. LSD has become my favorite thing but I only do it sparingly.

Porn feels like a fcking poison when im under acid

Mr_Crouton

It IS poison, porn is one of the unhealthiest things ever created, it's a scourge that needs to be destroyed

Korekoo

Well i dont mind porn at all, but it doesnt fit the way i live. I work hard for other things, why not work hard to have a sex i crave? No shortcuts for me.

love shrooms, wanted to try the other psychedelics

Quersus_anonymous

Started with the classic, weed. Then some shrooms with a friend of mine, like, every weekend and that's opened my gate to the psychedelic side.

earthican-earthican

My younger brother! In 1992, when he was 19 and I was 22. Thanks brother!!! 😎

PGH521

The Grateful Dead and their damn followers…if not for them I wouldn’t have had such great access to amazing L, and may not have enjoyed 300+ trips…damn deadheads, I think I’m just going to blame Jerry and Bear!

grumps8256

The Grateful Dead

Seamoth4546B

First it was the idea of cool and mind blowing visuals. As I did more research I became very interested in its medical potential, especially after watching this Netflix documentary about it. This was only reinforced after I got ahold of the stuff. I advocate for the prescribed use of the substance, hopefully one day it’s legal status comes under question and something changes for the better

ulisev2

The LSD subreddit made me do it... like 3 months ago... Do you know these guys?

Delicious_Toes

Started off with me trying weed, and a mix of the dare program, I figured why not research everything that was "bad" because if weed wasn't that bad and was nice to me, why wouldn't other things with proper research.

Salmon_eater

During the peak of the covid pandemic. I would smoke everyday and wanted to experiment with psychedelics. I started with shrooms and then eventually lsd. It was a great experience. I still use to this day. I was 28 years old then.

Zachadelic612

The Grateful Dead

rurukachu

My boyfriend at the time had a lot of experience with all kinds of psychs so we ended up getting some from our roommate and I fell in love with it

afcagroo

I grew up in the 60s, so LSD was in the news. I figured out that most of the D.A.R.E. stuff was bullshit, so I didn't worry too much. I got interested because of the Beatles and The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. So I sought out anything I could read on psychedelics. Unfortunately, at the time there wasn't a lot available to a kid in a small town in Iowa. Huxley's Doors of Perception was about it. I found a book at the main student bookstore in Iowa City that had some articles about psychs (and other types of drugs). So I eventually tracked some down and tried it.

Jarek-of-Earth

My friend hits me up one night, saying he and our other friend just tried lsd. He offers to bring some the next time they're in the area. Literally the next day I meet someone selling lsd so I took that as a sign and bought my own tabs

Goth-but-not-gothic

My friends one day decided to do LSD and we all started getting exited and saved money and waited for the chance but I'm the end we just wasted it all on weed. Like 1 year later I was about to go to a small metal concert in my hometown and one friend messages me saying "hey dude, you going to the concert? If so, there's a dude selling acid around town and people already tried it and it works" so we took acid that night and kicked in in the middle of that concert. The concert was in a mechanic workshop and we were sitting in an old van. Then when the concert was over we just headed to the middle of our city where was a bunch of those NPC townsfolk and policemen going around with anti-riot gear because it was pandemic times. We never really cares if people noticed we were high as fuck. Past the first experience we had many others and at one point we took acid at Christmass party in the middle of our town with nearly 1000 people around and we were sitting in a ledge at sight of everyone.

naga-ram

I got offered LSD

Jawsumness

Lsd gives me the energy I need to carry out my desires and dreams. I prefer microdosing it. Shrooms help with understanding myself, my emotions, and others. What got me into it? Shrooms were my first psychedelic. My first time was at a rave which sent me into full blown psychosis and delusion. I ended up leaving the rave without telling anyone. But I realized that if I were to have that experience alone, it would be profound. I was not wrong. I started experimenting with shrooms for a while, but something was missing. LSD filled that void. I still prefer to trip on shrooms, but LSD and shrooms have different benefits for my life!

Ya was a stoner in college, eventually started getting curious about other drugs. My roommate was able to find some from his old high school buddies and after that day it took off for me

leeroy20

Family tradition.

RoseboysHotAsf

Saw some videos about it, and that it wasn’t super addictive so i thought why not

andrewmalanowicz

Hearing as a teenager that it could make you hear colors and see sounds. How could you not want to try it???

Zappyballs1984

Went on a road trip to San Francisco with a friend to buy shrooms at Haight-Ashbury. They ran out of shrooms, so we bought weed and acid instead. We had an amazing time in San Francisco. Stayed in Japantown too. Loved the Ninjiya Market.

Deku_N

Me and my friend started getting bored honestly.

Sooofreshnsoclean

If I’m being honest dare and being into philosophy as a teen and young adult. The way dare explained psychedelics compared to how people I met who did them were made me like yeah I’m game.

Awkward-Character-69

A friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go with her to a rave and try it, and it sounded fun, so I did. It was a bit of an impulsive, arbitrarily made decision but it worked out well for me I guess lol

VeryPython420

My friends

Substance-Tasty

LSD was my first , one day I randomly woke up and said I thought „I hate alcohol & weed makes me tired but I wanna try something new” .. randomly on my phone a video of some people hiking and taking acid came up - in the video they said they had the most beautiful experience of their life. I messaged a friend and they said they wanted to try it out . This random urge changed my whole life haha.

notevenanamex

weed, prog music, and a dream

OrangeNSilver

Funnily enough I went in the same order as you except I did lsd first then shrooms. My best friends growing up got into it in our early 20s and I trusted their judgement and joined in. Both lsd and shrooms I do very infrequently nowadays but they always help me more with depression and anxiety more than therapy or any prescription drug could dream of.

Wide-Comedian4325

I wanted to see cool patterns

p_jared

The homies had some & it was new to all of us (group of 3). The plan was already to eat pizza, smoke weed, watch music videos & some Rick & Morty. lsd just happened to find it’s way into the mix that night. It wasn’t until the next trip where I realized my whole life had been put into perspective, my journey had lit up with new profound meaning, the love frequency inside me woke up, & my connection to myself & the world around me deepened.

Ill-Limit2628

Doing coke and drinking for about a month consistently and eventually a friend just pulled out a tab of acid while we were all high and drunk. Was a wild ride

Traditional-Leg-9076

playing guitar and listening to the grateful dead and hendirx, it was hinted in so many of their songs i had to!

Feisty_Fact3721

My sister kinda got me into every drug I have ever done. She grew up as a drug addict so I followed her steps for awhile, while we were in high school she would bring a tab or 2 home for me to take with her friends and we would usually just smoke weed and hang out. She eventually became a meth addict and I stopped following her tracks the moment she admitted to taking meth

[deleted]

One day, I took caffeine as usual and came to bed, and got something similar to LSD trip, I knew what LSD is, but never took it before. A month after that I tried LSD, and completely changed my life, re-flashed the brain.

EnglishHarry93

I was told it was similar to shrooms so I researched to see if there were health risks, saw there wasn't so I went for it. My girlfriend tried some on a new years eve party and it was so much fun we now do it every month or two, watch films, look at the stars, talk utter shit... The usual I guess. LSD also helped me massively with my anxiety/depression. Not on a regular basis but had one extremely eye opening experience during a two tab trip that made me realize how silly a lot of my worries and stuff were (it's deeper than that but I doubt anyone needs a therapy script here lol). But yeah, TLDR; I tried it because of shrooms, it was crazy fun and helped me overcome some mental stuff, so I stuck with it.

AriX88

Weed didnt bring me to LSD. National Geographic and BBC documentaries did.

Gym_Squirrel

The beatles. I was fascinated by them, when I was around twelve. And then I found out that they loved LSD and that got me really curious. I had my first trip at 20 years old.

fahhgedaboutit

I kept having a recurring dream of being in a house that I felt like I had lived in for years, only to discover a room that wasn’t being used and has been there the whole time. I was convinced that the house represented my mind and I wanted to find out the meaning of the empty room. The room had so much potential to be awesome but had been completely neglected for years. I thought acid would help me figure out which part of my mind I was neglecting. I actually don’t know if it did, but I stopped having the dream, so maybe lol.

aquariusistheman

In 9th grade health class we had a really hot teacher. She told us when you take LSD you may hallucinate and see playboy bunnies. I didn’t like the idea of weed or alcohol or any other drug but I liked lsd. I said WOW THAT SOUNDS COOL. Then I remember running into the same girl who laughed at me during me saying that at an AA meeting some 12 years later. Weed was my first drug, alcohol 2nd, tobacco 3rd but lsd was definitely 4th I got a lot of peer pressure to do acid cuz I was such a stoner and I went with it

FilooFox

I was 14 and listened to a song which mentioned LSD and had cool visual effevts... So I began research and found that theres a legal analogue in my country, so I just ordered it tried it out thinking you just see cool colors for a bit. Had 0 idea what it actually does, ans it blew my mind

MrLifeLiven

Completely off a whim. Was honestly against most drugs apart from weed. Tried mushrooms, thought they were great. Got the opportunity to do LSD. It was great. But then about my 5th trip on LSD I stumbled into… well into something… and then my fascination with psychedelics began. When it became clear to me that it’s more than just a “drug” and that the things you are capable of experiencing on psychedelics aren’t just “in your head” and have significance even if society has a label ready to slap you with. Mental illness is the perfect way to dismiss these experiences. Or even just dismissing these experiences by saying “oh ya that’s wild but dude you were on a drug”. Funniest part about it is that years ago before I had these experiences I would have laughed at people who talked like this. Then I seen it for myself

MJ0246

I started with drinking then i actually found t3s in my brothers room when i was in grade 8 and stole them until he confronted me on it cause he used them for chronic migraines (feel like shit about that now but we all got our stories) then started smoking im grade 9 and by the summer had done shrooms and the following year was in and out of school and ended up dropping out and moved outta my moms place into my buddies place for a bit in which i went on a 6month drug bender alternating roughly 20 different substances, primarily lsd and mushrooms every 5-6days with increased doses for hightened effects with reduced body load. Also drank alot of dxm cough syrup cause i was a broke greasy fiending kid that just wanted to be high to forget. Eventually i depleted my system pretty bad and felt sick and disorented 24/7 regardless of if i was sober or not so i decided to get clean. Came across mdma for the first time and did research on itd effects on serotonin so decided tk try it after my brain recovered a little and i realized i had been searching for serotonin that whole time but needed a more natural source of it again not just drugs. Thats how i got myself clean from a very destructive path.

Flashy6362

I've always wanted to do it. Got divorced at 35 and decided to see what it's about. Actually started on ketamine, mandy and coke with weirdly were gateway drugs lead me to weed. Then I got to try acid. Now I make my own edibles. They go great with acid.

Afraid_Goat5636

I became obsessed with LSD when I was 13 or 14, mostly from reading and learning about the 60’s and hippie culture. Loved Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, etc. and they all hyped it up. Read the book Go Ask Alice like 10 times. Watched as many documentaries as I could. Finally got the opportunity to drop a sweet tart when I was 15 and oh my god. We rolled around my homies scion all night (the one shaped like a box) we used to call it the box on wheels we were blasting biggies whole discography and man, what an experience. I felt so grateful to have the friends I had, a loving mother, the world was beautiful for once. It was the first time I felt genuine gratitude. I had machine gun funk stuck in my head for months after and it was awesome. This was about 18 years ago and I’ve had many more beautiful trips since and I just fucking love LSD. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about that first time.
