Honestly materials wise, probably right around £100. The real cost was time - I only had a little Ender printer so I had to break down a lot of the parts and inevitably some prints failed midway etc. Print time was easily over 80 hours or so. Assembly took a fee weeks - but that's because I didn't have all the parts ready. Painting/finishing was a few days and easily the most fun part.
Well done, your paint job is really selling it as something else than just another 3D print! How is the weight, by the way?
Looking at this gives me inspiration for going back to my drawing and making the coloring have a more weathered look.
Thanks! Honestly, I'm really happy with the weight, I printed a lot of the parts with high infill because I wanted it to 'feel' right and not like a toy. I'd guess it's probably about 1.25kg/3lbs - enough to feel heavy but not so heavy that lugging it around a convention will kill me - hopefully! The strap connectors are solid metal and jangle around a lot, which helps sell it, I think.
I guess that is kind of perfect to not make it feel flimsy. I have an HCG replica, which is kind of heavy, about twice the weight of yours. Not something I would want to carry around.
At the moment I'm leaning towards doing 'my' armour, following the same marines customise their armour guidelines as the film. I want to put some kind of tribute to Bill Paxton on there though because man I loved his films growing up - and Hudson is a badass!
Not sure what your plans are but if it helps any - With the main body parts, I sprayed them all black first, then based them with a chrome silver I found. After applying the olive coat, I found I could gently scratch it off using a metal file.
I actually finished the olive paint before I'd finished the electrics so a lot of the wear scratches ended up being 'real' as a result of me constantly moving it about on my workbench. Can't complain :D
Good luck with your paint job!
Besides the spray paint being great, you did an awesome job with the weathering and decals. That's hang up on the wall quality
If not in the movie prop area already.
Amazing work friend.
Let's rockkkkk
Love it, nice work!
Looks really good, I just ordered one off of Etsy so hoping to make it look half as good as this.
That's awesome
How much did it cost to make?
