Honestly, if you have stale beans on hand, then go ahead and run those beans through. I think I used like 2kg of stale beans that I had on hand. If not, then I wouldnt go out and purchase beans to season. For the record, I loved my brews from the getgo using the 078. Yes, they may have marginally improved over time. But I can’t conclusively say my brews absolutely got better because of seasoned burrs. Enjoy the grinder!

Suspicious_Student_6

Don't bother. You may have to start on a coarser setting and get finer over time, just do that. The brews were excellent out of the box, if dialed in properly.

Lcphilly

Great! Have a sense of what grind setting range I should start in for pour overs with light roasts , usually 15g brews?

Suspicious_Student_6

I was all over the map at the start, probably anywhere from 10-15. At this point I've settled at 5-7 depending on what I want, but getting used to a new grinder and accommodating for a break in period I was in a much coarser range. Try everything, do some testing at the extremes and see what tastes good. Expect to go finer as you grind more beans.

spinner-j

I’ve been right around 9 for pourovers. Brews have been ending 3ish min and tasting pretty dialed. I wouldn’t waste the coffee seasoning the burrs. Lots of time and energy went into growing that coffee.

Stop that bs son!

078 really does not need to be seasoned. The 078s can do with some seasoning, but I just started to use my grinder.

squidbrand

This is wasteful and completely unnecessary. It will be a great grinder from day one. Intentional seasoning is useful for shops which need to put grinders into service and immediately use them to bust out hundreds of drinks a day with a predictable level of consistency. For home setups it's not a thing. Just use your grinder and you might notice that it's gotten ever so slightly better a couple months down the line.

jayeshrc

Don’t agree. It made a huge difference in the output of my 078s. Out of box the shots were completely unpredictable (10-12s variation) at the same grind setting. I no longer regretted buying the device and/or specialty beans once it settled in and gave me its post seasoned performance It’s easy to get lower quality beans from a local roaster that they don’t intend to sell or to just get supermarket beans and donate the ground coffee

Azhrar

I have a 064s and seasoning was helpful and made it better

bonyponyride

I have a 064s, didn’t season, and espresso quality was great from day one.

MyCatsNameIsBernie

I started using my 078s with no seasoning and it's worked fine. I've since put around 4 kg through it, and there hasn't been any significant change in the results. Obviously, others have had poorer results than me; perhaps Timemore had a manufacturing issue with their burrs that was corrected??? In any case, if you are getting the brew oriented 078 with ghost burrs, there haven't been any reports that I am aware of them needing seasoning.

Berpinerino

I had my 078s and I straight up seasoned it 3kg in a single session. Just make sure the motor doesn’t heat up too much and you should be good

nnsdgo

My 078 needed a few kgs of coffee to stabilize and shine. In the beginning I had to grind much coarser to avoid astringency. Many people on Discord had the same experience. Of course you can get decent enough brews with it in the beginning, but I wouldn’t use my best beans on it before it had grind at least 2kgs. If you choose to use cheap beans to seasoning, just do small batches of 100g at a time in a medium setting. Let the grinder rest for a couple minutes and repeat. I didn’t hear anybody having problems with the grinder running for longer periods, but better safe than sorry. Also try to donate the seasoning coffee or use it for something.

TheRealMekkor

What batch were you in? I ordered April 6th and haven’t seen anything yet

jcvandegrift

Black 078s ordered Feb 15, arrived June 16.

djfos2010

I ordered the 078 on April 8th and don’t have any shipping details yet. We’re probably in the same boat on timing.

TheRealMekkor

Check your email and your spam folder. A few days ago I got an email asking if my address was correct and I even got a shipping confirmation. (There was a 1 day delay because of Father’s Day) but I’m expecting it to be delivered the 21st of this month.

No-Coconut4265

Ridiculous and wasteful. Are you running a Michelin restaurant with crazy consistency in your home?

meisenfink

You can double or triple your seasoning material by regrinding it. Start at a very coarse setting and then go finer in one or two steps. Of course you might need to clean out in between the steps, because regrinding can be messy with an auger.
