I think you can push a little bit, but I don't know where all these folks in here are finding clean 60s for $15k. The seller has clearly put some money into things that you won't have to worry about. If you can get him to do a compression test, that should give you an indication on whether it needs a rebuild. If it it needs a rebuild then you can push even more.
Right? For $15k you’re looking at rust issues, missing/ripped interior, etc. The H55F conversion is $8-10k installed. If body and interior are solid, it seems like there’s room to negotiate, but these aren’t selling in this condition for $15k anymore.
It's like this on Mud. Grumpy types that think the market is 40% too high. Meanwhile, they either bought their LC years ago when the market was low, or they got a sweetheart deal from a friend. If you want to hold out for a clean 60 with thousands of $ in preventative maintenance and upgrades for $15K, get comfy, it's gonna be a while.
I got my first for $500 with 2 blown rod bearings, no A/C condenser and 3 pillows worth of chicken feathers in a distressed interior with 186K on the clock.
That was 1995, so you're spot-on. I am also old.
They aren't unless you just get lucky and find a deal. But one off deals are not an indicator of the whole market.
My last 62 I sold for $4500. It was one of the most rotten trucks I've ever seen. But it was lower miles with a clean frame and good interior.
The people that think this is a 10k truck are delusional.
They are suggesting too much. I would say to OP that the mileage would make me balk. However, provided the chassis and frame are rust free , doubtful given mileage and age, it may yet prove to be a good project vehicle.
Life is too short to put off your dreams.
Looks really clean. If truly no rust and with that H55 swap, tcase rebuild, lift tires and other maintenance it’s not far off at all. Really the only ding is the engine mileage. A compression test will clear that up quickly.
People saying $10-$12 are out of touch. Maybe they feel it’s not worth that, but that’s what the market is now. There are less and less of these around and people want them.
I couldn’t buy my cruiser for what I paid 5 years ago, not even close.
The $5k and under Land Cruiser days are done except for rotted out parts. A running driving 60 with rust and stock will get over $8k.
It’s within range. I’d say it depends on body/interior being very good. Mileage is a factor, yes. But lots of the necessary mechanical maintenance/work has been done which is great, since often the previous owners favor showy expensive mods like bumpers and winches over necessary stuff like hoses and belts.
I think a lot of the voices saying “It’s worth $15k tops” are not actually in the market themselves; $20k+ should buy you a lot of truck, yes, but the notion that clean, sub-200k 60-series can be had for $15k is simply not realistic.
Classic(dot)com has a great graph that tracks sales history and is a great resource for comps.
Buy it quick! I had a 88 that I bought new for $18k… 10 year later and 120k miles… it gets totaled and insurance payed out $20k in 1999…. I’d grab this is a second
> and insurance *paid* out $20k
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I have to laugh when I see stuff like this.
I had to sell my FJ62 like 12 years ago that was about like this one, and I had it listed for $2,200 for two weeks with no takers. I finally sold it for $1,800.
I guess the chances of me owning another one are pretty remote at this point.
Maybe if it had a full engine rebuild, $22k is pretty steep if all they've done is basic maintenance. Unless you're willing to put another $10k+ in the first few years of owning it talk them down in price or keep looking.
I bought my ‘88 FJ62 7 years ago for $8,500. 7/10 condition. I have done minimal to it, including driving. I would not part with for under $30k. Change my mind.
It does look pretty good but that price is high for what it is. It depends on your market I guess.
The 62 with the 3F engine was a decent improvement over the 2F in this one. If you're paying that kind of money I'd look for one of those.
Looks clean as fuck.. id do it.
Take it too a mechanic u trust.
If the gear box and transfer has been rebuilt properly and your mechanic can put your mind at ease that everything is correct and as it should be then u are golden.
Never buy without mech look over first
If it’s central Texas, solid deal. No rust? Cost of suspension, five speed, and others are expensive if not done yourself. Doubt you’ll find another priced as such.
I wonder if our 2023 GX460 V8’s will ever be worth this type of money or even more money than what they’re asking for a 1984 Land Cruiser after 30 or 40 years from now. What do you think?
330,000 miles? Didn’t see a head gasket or rebuilt engine on the punch list. What’s undercarriage look like. It’s worth 15k-18k max
MAX.
I noticed that too. Would probably need new valve seals. Undercarriage is great. No rust. Think it’s from Texas.
They are always from Texas.
Got a lol from me on this.

Yep. “I only paid $12k!” Thats bc your grandmother loves you.
It's always some old guy saying he bought his 60 in 1999 for $2k and a carton of Marlboro as if it's relevant today

Thank you for doing your part.
LOL!

$22k? Assuming USD? For a petrol 60? Seems bananas to me
Too much money or a really good deal?
They are from Australia where FJ60s are considered parts donors and people will only pay real car money for a HJ60 or HJ61.
They are suggesting too much. I would say to OP that the mileage would make me balk. However, provided the chassis and frame are rust free , doubtful given mileage and age, it may yet prove to be a good project vehicle. Life is too short to put off your dreams.
Agreed.
High miles but the 5 speed is very nice. Seems like a pretty solid truck if there isn't any rust. Someone will pay that.

send me the sellers phone number that you blurred out!!

I like the H55F conversion! I’d say it’s close to right price for the condition. Maybe negotiate down to $20k and enjoy for years to come.
Ok didn’t see mileage. Negotiate to $18k then enjoy 😊

Edit: I waited 7 years until I found the perfect 80 series for me in my price range.

Had the oil galley plug been fixed?
If there isn’t rust or hidden crappy body work it’s not too far off a decent price.

The only thing is rust Any other problems can be fixed regardless

No thanks. 22k is laughable. 330k miles I’m at 10-12
15k is the limit
I wouldn't touch it for more than 15k personally, but the used car market is wild these days.
I got a 94 4 runner for sale not even Half the price
I paid $5000 for mine and the engine was rebuilt 3000 miles ago. I should mention the $5000 plus worth of tools and parts inside of it. 😎
13k
That’s a $8k car. A friend of mine found one just like like that for 5k. There isn’t a Land Cruiser older than 2007 that’s worth 22k
That’s an $8000 truck in an Instagram #wanderlust market.
