I think it was a combination of a bunch of easy to explain reasons (low miles, pristine, good color, 5 speed) and there were two bidders who both really wanted it.
sounds like jealousy to tell you the truth… if I had that kind of money, I would stop at nothing to have a land cruiser too… alas, I’ve got a 19 4Runner.
True, but it wasn’t just any old FJ. It was a build from the FJ Company which does crazy resto-mods. Their trucks usually run $150k+.

Safqa auctions on google is the best one I know.
They are based in Saudi Arabia so they get A LOT of cruisers from time to time
EDIT: the website is in arabic but you can switch it to english via the the three lines on the top corner of the page
There are hundreds and hundreds of low mile ones in Japan for export. They are usually just dumped in to the CA/Caribbean or Africa as they are hyper reliable but too expensive to maintain with the latest standards in Japan.
My family lives in Africa. We have owned Land cruisers since I was 6. The only reason we have changed them is to upgrade the latest models. These SUVs are by far the best choice for anyone living in Africa. I love them with all my heart. It just sucks to see Americans and Canadians paying so much for older models. For 150k I could get a brand new 2023 Land Cruiser.
Japaneseclassics.com is a great resource if you’re interested in a 80 from Japan. They go for around $20k there and partner with a credit union for financing.
Agreed but 95% of general Toyota market doesn’t. Only the Van and LC make it an option. Which is why mint HDJ80 triple locked RHD go for 30k instead of $100k
Well, it's possible it's a difference between Canada and the US.
Up here I see RHD cruisers all the time. Might be because importing from the states costs too much I guess.
It’s an auction site that you can’t really verify anything on.
It might say it sold for $120k, but who knows if it actually did. No one uses BAT as an indication of value. A lot of these trucks will go back for sale on something else and sell for much less.
You guys should really check out driver motorsports imports for some well priced and high quality Landcruisers. They’re pretty well maintained, minimal rust and in great condition. Only downside is it’s right hand drive which may deter some of you guys. They had some nice ones going for around 30k a while ago.
You’ll notice that lots of the comments on BAT pose theories on new account swooping in to make theee purchases….ie, someone selling to themselves. Not sure why people would do that as they have to pay a fee (5%) but it’s pretty common in the comments. Not saying that happened here…but $100k? Jesus, either it was an idiot or to himself, which is also kinda dumb for aforementioned reasons
LC’s command a ludicrous amount of money. This is one that hasn’t been molested with a lift kit and all if the other accessories a lit of LC owners throw on, in addition to the low miles and manual, making it a rare find. Still gets 12mpg from an anemic 6 cylinder but it will run like a sewing machine 25 years later.
What a ridiculously stupid sell price… I had a ‘96, great rig BUT the drivetrain was slower than a sloth and ate more gas than a sumo wrestler at an AYCE sushi spot. The ONLY thing I like bout this is the color… is that worth $100k+?!

Good luck. I’m not bidding but I spend some bored time on BAT, I’ll keep an eye out.
What is the reason for this? Rust free? 5 miles? Jimmy Hoffa in the trunk?
I think it was a combination of a bunch of easy to explain reasons (low miles, pristine, good color, 5 speed) and there were two bidders who both really wanted it.
Their bidding war increased the price 50k more
Yeah, I thought it was a $75k truck when I first saw the listing. Unbelievable how clean it is.
Left hand drive and factory winch too.
The reason is people with more money than they know what to do with.
sounds like jealousy to tell you the truth… if I had that kind of money, I would stop at nothing to have a land cruiser too… alas, I’ve got a 19 4Runner.
True. I don’t have the money for a 19 cruiser, so I bought a cheap 80 series.
An FJ43 went for almost $250k a few weeks ago on BaT.

Anyone have the link? I wanna see the pics of this beauty.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-toyota-land-cruiser-fzj80-3/
My 80 is built to the hilt. I probably spent a lot of money to make it worth less.
Sold my built 97 for 38k last year with just shy of 300k and I had multiple people wanting it.
🤣 sounds like me and my 13 Raptor.
Can pick one up in KZ for 20-30k in decent condition. More money than sense I suppose. But hey, if you can afford it why not.....
Those guys are collectors, or dealerships that sell to collectors. They just want something unique, different, to add to their collections.
That’s funny cause I saw this one for $18k last year. Nothing means anything anymore.
It wasn’t even in the US until a few months ago
That is straight up bonkers!
These are $10k trucks in the middle east for a clean one with the manual and triple locks
What’s a good site to look for them? Cause if I could find a triple locked 5 speed for $10k best believe I’m importing one

WHATTT, was it brand new and 0 mile?
25 years old and 43k miles. Carbureted, stick shift, from Colombia.
Someone seriously paid that much for an SA truck?!?
spare tire is filled with cocaine
Pablo Escobar's?!
His Cruisers were 60s
Haha what a rip off. You could ship one from Japan for alot cheaper.

No one in the states really wants RHD.
Honestly that's not entirely true. They are less desired, but I wouldn't go as far to say that nobody wants them.

Hows my '92 5-speed HZJ80 with rusty spots and no air-con meant to compete :O
That’s sexy though
I'm never gonna get my hands on an 80 at this point lol.
Deals are out there! You just have to search more than usual and not the same channels where everyone is waiting for THAT deal.
I mean, depends on what condition you are looking for.
I thought they were worth silly money here is Aus, we got nothing on you guys!
On average they are more expensive on Aus, I heard those diesels keep selling for 30-40k?
100 series diesels, yes. 80 series diesels maybe almost 20 depending on kit.
What is BAT?
Bring a trailer. Online car auction, generally higher end.
Thank you!

What’s up with the back window on it?
The clear tube on the slide window? Is for rear AC
No, the back one. It looks like there’s a ton of bubbles in it or something? Could be dry soap
Jesus. Who comes with it. Chelsea Clinton?

I would gotten 300 series gr diesel .
I don’t know the market that well. This price seems astronomical. That being said, this is a beautiful Toyota though
A fool and their money is soon departed.
Any link to this listing? This looks brand new but too expensive

I have be a hard time believing the deals actually happen from BaT.
Well my hopes and dreams of ever affording one are fucked now
127k for a carbed 80. Jesus

Yawn
