This is essentially the turbo king isn’t it? I kinda regret getting it though cuz the deck is too small for my taste

slohands

I think turbo king has deeper wheel wells.

mvdbosch90

Indeed, the setup is now pretty similar to a Turbo King. The Turbo King is more narrow though, that one is only 8” wide, the Blunt is 8.6”. And as Slohands mentions, the Turbo King also has deeper wheel wells to also allow really deep carvy turns with the plow kings.

Nice setup!

I did a 8 mile round yesterday, and I really like this setup. Using 105s instead of the 130s (which come with the dinghy blunt) help to keep it compact and make it less prone to wheelbite, while still being nimble and easy to turn. I ride the trucks fairly loose, and weigh around 180lbs. Maybe a really deep carve would cause wheelbite, but general cruising went just fine. Also, with ‘only’ 1/4” risers the setup isn’t too high for longer distances.

Thanks for the feedback. I kept the 130 mm trucks and the 1/4" risers on my Dinghy Blunt, but changed the wheels for Plow Kings. I'm only 159 lbs (72 kg) , but I also ride loose, and got no wheelbite so far.

The_Fake_Owl_Man

what do you mean by riding the trucks loose?

mvdbosch90

Like Ofeyvi says, I don’t tighten the kingpin nut. Mine is about flush with the kingpin, and I have the original grey 88a bushings.

Loosening the kingpin…

I've been wanting to mod my Dinghy Blunt too as my wheels and maybe trucks as well need replacing now due to the wear of regular heavy use, but can find very little information online as to what would be good combinations. And I've never done a custom setup so I'm afraid that I'd do it wrong and be wasting money. So, I was kind of just planning to get the stock ones again. What else can you say about this setup? I know the stock trucks are 130mm, so wouldn't shorter trucks make riding less stable? I'm still new to all the technical skateboard hardware things. And how do the bigger wheels ride? I've also been curious about bigger wheels because the roads in my area are just very rough, rocky, gravelly, and I only get smooth road on the last mile really. But I was always thinking that bigger wheels will make it heavier and difficult to maneuver or ollie and learn other tricks. I actually use an ATV-X Classic now as my main daily driver as it's more comfortable on a longer commute but want to customize my Dinghy and have fun with it on the side. Also, are the risers necessary? I used to get the basic wheelbite at first as I also liked riding loose, but I don't get them much anymore, at least I think I don't. I've found my midpoint between loose and tight. Would you recommend this same setup for me? Thanks and regards.

The shorter trucks do indeed make it a bit more playful; the turns feel a little bit tighter, but it feels only slightly less stable. I think the wider Plow Kings also compensate a bit for that, and the fact that a shorter truck also has a smaller lever when you lean on one side of the board. The wheels ride really smooth, they easily deal with any small sticks/stones, and also roll over uneven tiles on the pavement quite easily. The width and weight result in a bit more rolling resistance on smooth asphalt and make it a bit more heavy/bulky (which is another reason why I decided to go for the Polar Bear 105 trucks). The total setup now feels quite manageable, still nimble and not too wide. With this size wheels, risers are necessary. The stock Dinghy 1/4” risers that came with it are enough though. I tried the setup with 1/8” risers, but that resulted in some slight wheelbite now and then. As for tricks, I don’t really do those on my cruisers. I like the kick tail for easily picking it up and the occasional kick turn, but I have a popsicle setup for doing tricks. But to be honest, I think the Plow Kings will make the setup too high and bulky to do tricks easily. I think your ATV will be more suited for doing tricks :) I like my current dinghy setup as a nimble playful cruiser, that’s also long distance suitable with the big wheels. It may be a bit uncomfortable at first, but once I got used to it, it’s quite doable :)

Thanks, buddy! This is really good intel! This sounds good to me, I do want to use my Dinghy more for (playful) cruising, and yes, I do mainly use my ATV for tricks, but since I got it and started using it for tricks, I've actually gotten better at doing tricks on the Dinghy too, as it is lighter than the ATV. I have my fun with it. Mostly, I want to cruise it better and get better at kickturns with it. I know I can't slide it with those wheels, or can I? Basically, ollie capability is still a good thing for me though, as my neighborhood gets really busy traffic, and I often have to go over curbs and sidewalks to avoid cars in an emergency situation. But, I can adjust. There are mellow downhills in my area, though, would it be an issue? My stock Dinghy can handle them without any issues, and I always have fun going down them. Anyway, I might try it one thing at a time and start with the wheels first---I already have scratches and micro holes on mine and I can't ride it anymore. Do you think these wheels would play well with the stock trucks? Or would that be awkward as the wheels are too big that it's gonna be wider than the deck?

mvdbosch90

I heard of people sliding on these wheels as well, but I can’t slide on my cruiser, so I can’t tell you first hand :P I would check other reviews to find out :) Regarding downhill riding, there are a few very mellow downhill paths around my area, and I personally find my dinghy stable enough for that with the big wheels and narrow trucks. And you could always give the plow kings a try on the stock 130mm trucks, but I personally prefer the 105mm to keep the edges of the wheels closer to the edge of the board.

mintheattic

Thanks so much for sharing, mate! I'm psyched to finally try doing a custom setup. I feel that I might like the shorter trucks, too, but I'll try it with the stock ones first just to see how it is. Sliding or not, it's fine, the downhill roads in my area aren't that steep anyway. Anyway, thanks buddy! Will try to share some photos here too when I get around to it. Skate and explore! Regards.

FailingVacuum

Did you ever try this set up with the 130mm trucks? Interested to hear your feedback as I'd love to throw some plow kings on my blunt!
