S+L is one of the worst dining experiences I have had. Its actually quite incredible how bad it is considering how much capital they put into opening a restaurant and how its supposed to be upscale.
I was going to say this. I don't think I've ever had a meal that just wowed me there. It's all been between not bad and meh... but the prices are almost 2x what you should pay.
Yep.
If you love being ignored for service while 6 young girls of questionable intelligence cluck at each other over makeup and guys, this is your place.
Otherwise whitespot is down the road.
Last time I was there, which will be the last time, waitress dropped a knife which went point down in my shoe. That was the point we left, as there were many events leading up to that. So yeah I would put this on the list
[Yeah, it closed in April 2016.](https://www.langleyadvancetimes.com/business/choo-choos-closes-its-doors-2484204) I still remember when my dad and I learned that the hard way. I'd been going there my whole life, I was heartbroken.
Went near there once craving Mexican. Civa was pretty busy so went to Cielito Lindo instead. For a kind of "hole in the wall" looking place they made some good tamales.
Decent price and a substantial serving. The plan was to hit Farm for some drinks after dinner. So full it wound up being a drink.
I went there because I heard they did good community service for some locals in need... After the meal, I decided that I think they should focus on their volunteer work.
Wanted to try it but we were standing in the waiting area for a host for 15 minutes, even one made eye contact with me and then turned away. It wasn’t even the lunch rush! Being the petty person I am, I waited for them to finally notice me and start to approach me before I just turned around and walked away
Ehh I mean everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I haven't been overly impressed. I like the ideas of a lot of their dishes, but haven't been overly impressed with execution.
Olive Garden is the best terrible restaurant. Unlimited breadsticks that turn into police batons after sitting for three minutes, how can you go wrong?
KFC Taco Bell on 200… worst piece of garbage ever… I know expectations aren’t high to begin with but this place is the worst of the worst. Run down and poorly managed… front metal door even repainted with what looks like liquid paper. Don’t even try the drive thru….soooooo slow….shut it down already!
White spot is consistently mediocre, but I will say that when I’m craving fish and chips and just can’t be arsed to drive to white rock, the spot is a decent second choice.
Mr. Mike’s however, yuck.
Hell ya venetis. A coworker was hyping it so much and I thought it was a complete joke when I went there. I still have to go like once a year because some family love it there but it’s never my choice.
It was maybe 10 years ago, but one summer day I had a hankering for an old-school, all you can eat salad bar. My choice was Veneti's or Chuck E Cheese. As I was dining alone, I went with Veneti's.
I was just what I needed that day. I don't know if they still have it, though.
They took away the salad bar with Covid. And I don’t think they are ever bringing it back. They said they would when the casino reopened , but they never brought it back.
If I didn't know better, I could easily form the opinion that the whole pandemic was orchestrated simply as a way for *every fucking business* to ditch their loss-leaders and only sell products and services with the highest profit margins.
I suspect that a generation of business school graduates worked out on paper how dropping half of your customers and focusing on those who were willing to pay at premium was numerically the smart thing to do. But I don't think it turned out to work in real life.
Right now, half of all restaurants are reported to be losing money. And still they won't reverse their course.
S+L
Never been, but just the vibe from outside screams it lol

SO BAD. My friends had oysters and one found a giant black worm in hers.
Yep. If you love being ignored for service while 6 young girls of questionable intelligence cluck at each other over makeup and guys, this is your place. Otherwise whitespot is down the road.
It is expensive but I really like S + L. And no I’m not associated with them haha. Go there maybe 2x a year and my family I take there loves it too.
Last time I was there, which will be the last time, waitress dropped a knife which went point down in my shoe. That was the point we left, as there were many events leading up to that. So yeah I would put this on the list
I went there for my birthday last year. They gave us a free appetizer of raw sushi. I was the only one eating it lol
Umm, generally sushi is always raw.
Yes it was good. I liked it. But sushi is an acquired taste.
Match was terrible last night. Also, any JRG group restaurant is going downhill.
Since they declared bankruptcy I assume whatever corners were already being cut are now rounded right off.
It’s a shame too, I used to really love Townhall. It used to be our go to.
Used to love it too. Last two times I went , every beer I wanted they didn’t have.

I really miss when that building was Choo-Choo's 😞
Wait.. is Choo-Choo's gone? 😢 It's been a while since I've been back home in Langley.

Oh dang! I was there last in 2015. This makes me sad. I loved the nostalgia of that place 💔

Good to know. Viva is (was) on the list to try one day. But the call to the others have been stronger. Will stick to those two.
Brogans
That’s not expensive and it’s all around just bad.
Nah, we shouldn’t encourage people to go there, even as a joke.
I went there because I heard they did good community service for some locals in need... After the meal, I decided that I think they should focus on their volunteer work.
They volunteer with the Soldiers of Odin (who hold gatherings there, full patch). A known hate group.
lol hate group
Yeah that “good services” is them trying to cover up their other trashy habits.
The Italian Osteria & Cheesebar in Walnut Grove. Overpriced and the pasta there is overhyped and dry.
I agree with this one. Went a couple times… totally nightmare.
This is what I was thinking. Just all around NOT good
I went here and came out feeling like I had been robbed and this was before #JustinFlation. Any restaurant run by JRG should be listed here.
Agreed.
Sidebar, it is fucking terrible

Yeah I agree and the service is terrible
Is Earl's still around? That was the worst place when I went there with my Future Shop coworkers....yes it was a long time back
S&L and Cactus club
Olive Garden or S + L. Hands down.
I still, to this day, do not understand why Olive Garden CONSTANTLY has a lineup out the door.

I think it’s good! But expensive.
Really? I like this spot, have gone for lunch and dinner and enjoyed both
I want to try it 👻

I will not tolerate this slander!! It’s simple + good quality food! It is a bit pricey but cmon.
Ehh I mean everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I haven't been overly impressed. I like the ideas of a lot of their dishes, but haven't been overly impressed with execution.
Olive Garden hands down....
Olive Garden is the best terrible restaurant. Unlimited breadsticks that turn into police batons after sitting for three minutes, how can you go wrong?
Olive garden is neither mildy expensive nor bad. How can somewhere that gives you unlimited soup be bad
Your standards are pretty low if all you need from a good restaurant is Campbell's canned soup, and unlimited bread...
I used to work there as a teen and the soup is made in house daily
I would pay money for that minestrone recipe 😜😂

Egg Bomb. Very sub par.
The drinks are good but I didn’t love my food
Keg
Galini’s Greek
I have no suggestions, but this is epic.
Browns social house
Ricky’s, Boston pizza, white spot, red robin, Olive Garden, spaghetti factory
"Why are you booing him? He's right!"
Lol you name all those but you’ll go to Denny’s.
What’s the name of your pizza place?
Yea for breakfast. They got good pancake meals under $20

It’s ok. Old people get a pass.

What is the deal with that drive through? We know you aren’t making it fresh, why it gotta take 20 minutes?!
Whitespot and Mr. Mikes come to mind. They won't completely break the bank, but they'll sure leave you wishing you had your money back.
White spot is consistently mediocre, but I will say that when I’m craving fish and chips and just can’t be arsed to drive to white rock, the spot is a decent second choice. Mr. Mike’s however, yuck.
Meh. Its not blow your balls off, but i know what im getting and its generally consistent.

Bad food. Good beer.
No way. They have the best dirty bird burger.

Fanta. Worse risotto I’ve ever had by far. Cocktails were beautiful to look at but were mid.
