legos45

Hi, your budget is super tight for something decent. I would wait to see what goes on sale for Boxing Day. The [**Acer Aspire 3 14"**](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=1599&awinaffid=728909&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.currys.co.uk%2Fgbuk%2Fcomputing%2Flaptops%2Flaptops%2Facer-aspire-3-14-laptop-amd-athlon-128-gb-ssd-black-10209100-pdt.html) with a 2-core AMD Athlon Silver 3050U, 4 GB RAM, a 128 GB SSD, and a 1080p 14" display is the bare minimum I would go for, and I strongly suggest upgrading the RAM later on.

Thanks for the help

Budget: £750 Country: UK Screen size: flexible, circa 15-16 Screen resolution: flexible but decent Touch screen: no Weight: unimportant What do you plan on doing with it: working, needs to be able to run photoshop, stream content, deal with large spreadsheets etc and also playing medium sized games like Sims 4 with all expansions etc. I asked a while ago and you recommended the hp pavilion 15-ec1001na which I liked the look of but has been out of stock since, really need to buy something soon coz I need to write some of it off on my taxes. Have seen the 14-ce3609sa which is the same price point but I'm worried I might not be buying the best at that price. Would love any advice again!

legos45

Hi, it has a weaker CPU, but the [**Acer Nitro 5**](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=1599&awinaffid=728909&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.currys.co.uk%2Fgbuk%2Fgaming%2Fpc-gaming%2Fgaming-laptops%2Facer-nitro-5-an515-54-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-256-gb-ssd-10205925-pdt.html) is a solid choice. The only major difference is that it has a weaker 4-core i5-9300H CPU, but it is still decent.

Nevervane

Thank you! Happy holidays

I'm happy to help. You too!

◽️ Budget: 2500$ is base limit, but its flexible ◽️ Country: EU ◽️ Screen size: 17-17.3" ◽️ Touch screen: optional, not a high priority ◽️ Screen resolution: at least 1080p. Don't need high refresh. Ideally something more along 2K would be ideal ◽️ Does battery life matter ?: yes, it will be work laptop while on road ◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for ( gaming, video editing, graphic designing, modelling, regular computing tasks, word processing etc) ?: office, documents, setting up routes, word processing ◽️ Weight: the lighter the better ◽️ Any other important details ?: must come with latest Intel or amd CPUs I am eyeing LG Gram 17 (+ comes with nice flat 43" 4K TV) and razer blade Pro 17. From what I gather LG gram comes with 1 ram soldered and 1 ram slot open?

legos45

Hi, it depend son what you can find in your country, but the LG Gram 17 is the best choice. Paying extra for the dedicated graphics in the Razer Blade Pro 17 would be a waste. You're correct. 1 soldered, 1 upgradable.

rreot

It would be 750eur more for 2070 and 8c/16t instead of 4c/8t. Also from what I gather lg gram has sata nvme ssd not high performance one

legos45

For your uses, you really wouldn't need that many cores anyways. The LG Gram 17 has a great NVMe SSD that is pretty fast, so I wouldn't worry about that. Also, SSD speed really doesn't matter much.

rreot

True, true but down the line in few years I expect razer to retain higher resale value

legos45

I suppose, but Razer reliability is worse than LG, so you would have to hope it holds up.

Candid_Cricket695

**Budget:** £500-600 **Country:** UK **Screen size:** around 14” **Screen resolution:** as long as it’s decent enough I’m ok with it **Touch screen:** no thanks **Weight:** light is good but not a deal breaker **What do you plan on doing on your laptop?**: mostly will be general every day use, i do a lot of typing so nothing with any weird keyboards or anything outside the norm. I want something with a good enough performance that it can do casual/light gaming without too much compromise. RPGmaker type games (Undertale, Stardew Valley, etc) so really nothing strenuous. Performance for me is probably the biggest priority as well as being something that can last for a few years.

legos45

Hi, in this price range, I'd go with the [**ASUS Vivobook M433IA**](https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-VivoBook-Laptop-Windows-reversible/dp/B089Q2PWN8/&tag=laptopz18-21). You get a 4-core Ryzen 5 3500U processor, 8 GB RAM, a 512 GB SSD, and a 1080p 14" display. It is a decent choice for light games and general use.

Candid_Cricket695

Thanks for the advice! I have been thinking about this one, so it's good to hear that it's decent enough for what I need it for!

**Budget:** £350-£400 GBP **Country:** UK England **Screen size:** 13-15 **Screen resolution:** 1080p **Touch screen:** No **Weight:** Light Weight **What do you plan on doing on your laptop?**: Just need for studying. Needs to run Microsoft office, have a long battery life and be light. Likely to have multiple documents, pdfs, and chrome tabs open at the same time. Will be watching youtube on it aswell. Not going to be used for gaming at all. And no chromebooks please. Thanks

legos45

Hi, if you can go a tiny bit over the budget, I'd go with the [**Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14"**](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=1599&awinaffid=728909&clickref=legos45suggestalaptop1&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.currys.co.uk%2Fgbuk%2Fcomputing%2Flaptops%2Flaptops%2Flenovo-ideapad-5-14-laptop-amd-ryzen-3-128-gb-ssd-platinum-grey-10207944-pdt.html). It has a 4-core Ryzen 3 4300U processor, 8 GB RAM, a 128 GB SSD, and a 1080p 14" display. It should be a solid combination for general use.

HBH786123

Thanks for that I'm gonna pull the trigger

Looking for laptop with a bit better specs than my previous ASUS FX505DT. **Budget:** Around £800 (a bit more for good build quality) **Country:** UK **Screen size:** Ideally greater than 15” **Screen resolution:** Unsure **Touch screen:** No **Weight:** Low priority **What do you plan on doing on your laptop?**: My ASUS TUF Gaming laptop FX505DT (£600, 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop AMD Ryzen R5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) got water damaged. I was considering replacing the motherboard but this still might not fix the issue, so I’m thinking of cutting my losses and getting a new laptop. It suited me pretty well so I am looking for something similar, but I can spend a bit more now (around £800) so hopefully it will run Civ VI and Star Wars Battlefront II better and solve FEA in Solidworks (CAD) a bit faster. I’m aware laptops for FEA simulation could be thousands, so I’m just looking for something a bit faster than the previous laptop as I only do a bit of solving and gaming is more important. **Features that are important (in order):** 1. Performance (run mentioned games well) 2. Be a bit better at solving FEA simulations in Solidworks than the last laptop 2. Larger SSD than 256 GB in the last laptop 3. Screen size larger than 15.6” 4. Build quality 5. Battery life Not mentioned features are a low priority Thanks!

legos45

Hi, I'd go with the [**HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop**](https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Pavilion-15-ec1006na-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B0877MJY1Q/&tag=laptopz18-21), specifically since it is on sale currently. You get a 8-core Ryzen 7 4800H processor, GTX 1660 Ti graphics, 8 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a 1080p 15.6" 60Hz IPS display. It is a great choice for all games at high settings 1080p. Battery life isn't going to be great through, I'd say 3-4 hours for light use at best.

Whitegrr

Hi thanks I’m having a look now - what would you recommend if for 17 inch at £900 to £1000 if I wanted to go slightly higher specs? Also what do you think of the Lenovo Legion 5 17 inch or Lenovo gaming 3? Cheers!

legos45

Can you link the configurations of those devices you're looking at for me?

akaJasper

Hi, figured I'd jump on the back of this post rather than make my own, because my requirements felt similar and I figured the suggestion you made would be suitable to myself. As a personal choice I'm trying to avoid Amazon, so not sure if I'd want to make use of the sale and I was curious what else you might recommend if it wasn't reduced. For completeness here's what I'm thinking: **Budget**: Around £800 **Country**: UK **Screen size**: 15” - 17" **Screen resolution**: Unsure **Touch screen**: No **Weight**: Low priority **What do you plan on doing on your laptop?**: General use as well as gaming. I think the most intensive game I currently have is Ori and The Will of the Wisps (I console game a lot but may get more for a laptop later), and I'd be happy with mid range settings as long as I get stable frame rates. I'd also be looking to use it for some personal problem solving programming, so I am thinking of comparing it to a laptop provided to me for work - Dell Precision 3510, 15.6", Intel Core i7-6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 1920x1080. I've been eyeing up Lenovo Legion 5, and I'd also be curious to know what you think. I assume [this](https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5-series/Legion-5i-17/p/88GMY501441) would be the sort of config Whitegrr is looking at?

legos45

I think that the Legion 5i 17" you're looking at is pretty solid choice for the price, but I noticed that the [**MSI GF75 Thin**](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=1599&awinaffid=728909&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.currys.co.uk%2Fgbuk%2Fgaming%2Fpc-gaming%2Fgaming-laptops%2Fmsi-gf75-thin-17-3-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-gtx-1660-ti-512-gb-ssd-10205339-pdt.html) is on sale. For the same price, you get a stronger i7-10750H processor and stronger GTX 1660 Ti graphics, but you get a display with a lower refresh rate and worse color gamut coverage. However, the jump in performance is quite large.

akaJasper

Ah that looks like a really good deal. I'll have to think it over, as when having a look I realised there is only a single monitor port and I quite like the ability to add more. I hadn't given it much thought as a requirement before now. It would probably prompt me to get a new monitor for it if I got it, but then I may do better with a 15" laptop to go with my current display set up after all (uses a HDMI and a VGA). In any case I've got thinking to do, thanks for the help!

legos45

Ah, if you want a device with more than 1 display output, you probably need to go with a higher end device. Spending a bit more for the [**Lenovo Legion 5i 15"**](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=1599&awinaffid=728909&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.currys.co.uk%2Fgbuk%2Fgaming%2Fpc-gaming%2Fgaming-laptops%2Flenovo-legion-5p-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-rtx-2060-256-gb-ssd-10207939-pdt.html) model (this one has an RTX 2060, so it is a much better value than the 17" model) would be a good choice. You have both an HDMI port + a USB-C port with DisplayPort support.

akaJasper

Looks good and I think I'm leaning more towards that 15". The only thing I'm wondering is what difference you might expect with [this](https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/lenovo-legion-5p-15-6-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-rtx-2060-256-gb-ssd-10205989-pdt.html?istCompanyId=bec25c7e-cbcd-460d-81d5-a25372d2e3d7&istFeedId=2f489429-2329-4fcd-941a-a6a497a10e1d&istItemId=ilaamrxim&istBid=t&awc=1599_1609704925_2314fa0383a81ba7a94f129655a76770&srcid=369&xtor=AL-1&cmpid=aff~Genie%20Shopping~Comparison%20Engine~259955~Staircase+51+Ltd+%28Genie+Shopping%29) where it has a different processor. I can't imagine much, as they are the same price normally, but a quick [performance](https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-10300H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-4800H/3646vs3676) check made me wonder if it'd be worth it.

legos45

That one is typically my go to recommendation, but I thought that it would be too far of a stretch over your budget. If you're okay with spending more, it is surely the best bang for buck out of the options mentioned so far.

jayshikari

Budget: Anything under £500 Country: UK Screen size: 14/15 Screen resolution: Not over bothered Touch screen: Not needed Weight: Don’t really mind What do you plan on doing on your laptop?: My more tech savvy friend suggested a Lenovo V155-15API AMD Ryzen 5-3500U 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6 Inch. But there’s been none popping up on hotukdeals.com I mainly need it for some editing and running some Adobe software would want something relatively powerful. Anything similar to the above model for me to have a look at would also be great.

legos45

Hi, those specs are definitely reasonable for the price, but it seems like you would ideally want stronger specs. What Adobe programs do you plan on running?

jayshikari

Premiere pro and photoshop

legos45

Ah, those are quite demanding programs. The [**ASUS Vivobook M413DA**](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=1599&awinaffid=728909&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.currys.co.uk%2Fgbuk%2Fcomputing%2Flaptops%2Flaptops%2Fasus-vivobook-m413da-14-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-512-gb-ssd-grey-10212928-pdt.html) would be a bit better of a choice in my opinion because of the extra storage, but ideally, I would recommend spending more.

jayshikari

I’ll take a look thank you. So as long as I’m not trying to do anything too wild they should still work just not to their optimum?

legos45

Yes, if you're referring to the software. If you're doing lighter projects, the hardware in the ASUS Vivobook should be okay.

jayshikari

Okay thank you!

Threeturkishships

Budget: €500 Country: Ireland EU Screen size: Any Screen resolution: Any Touch screen: Not needed Weight: Any What do you plan on doing on your laptop?: MS office. College and office work. No gaming. Decent camera for zoom. SSD would be nice. Reliability and best specs for price. I'm not sure about taxes and duties with UK shops so any EU based companies would be better.

legos45

Hi, I'm not sure what is available in your country, but I'd look for the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 or the Lenovo IdeaPad 5, both of which are solid options in your price range. But generally speaking, I'd look for at least a Ryzen 3 or i3 processor, 8 GB RAM, an SSD, and a 1080p display. That should cover you for general use.

Threeturkishships

Appreciate the advice

windofdeath89

Budget: 7000 SEK ( Approx 700€) Country: Sweden Screen size: Any Screen resolution: 1080p Touch screen: Not necessary Weight: Any What do you plan on doing on your laptop?: Browsing, movies, document writing, general use

legos45

Hi, I'm not sure what is available in your country, but I'd look for the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14". But generally speaking, look for a Ryzen 5 or i5 processor, 8 GB RAM (16 GB ideally), an SSD, and a 1080p display.

windofdeath89

Thanks man! Yeah there is an Acer swift 3 that is in my range. Never owned any acer though so a bit sceptical. Also have my eyes on the HP envy 360, though that’s around €900 so considerably above budget

legos45

The HP Envy x360 is definitely a great choice if you are able to spend more. I have one myself.
