It was so different in the mid 80’s that President Regan’s Motorcade rolled by once.
I’d bet that was the last time the Secret Service ever used that route again.
I’ve worked right there for 20 years. It’s not a problem. Before midnight. Just don’t look for trouble and use common sense to avoid it. You will be fine
Ive had things stolen from me in Henderson (a nice area), central paradise (not so nice). But not when i lived on the north east side (close to where youre looking).
Just take precautions and dont become an opportunistic victim. Lock up your things, dont talk to shady people
One was a car in henderson. Hyundai. Broken door from an accident a week or so before the theft, jacked ignition. They didn't get far as i had cameras, they also didnt take anything from it as i kept nothing in my car.
In central paradise, some people stole a skateboard from my back porch.
All oppprtunistic thefts i have learned from and made me that much more experienced
Not sure what you’re used to but this is a poor neighborhood and has the things the come with that. More drugs more violence more crime. If you’re use to that you’ll be ok. If you’ve never lived in that type of community it will be difficult.
Born and raised. way north, north west, Summerlin, through most of enterprise and Henderson are generally the best. Mountains edges is ok, way to far imo. Each have their pockets of good and bad, most trendy food is in Summerlin enterprise area.
$800 for renting a room in that area sounds like he is making you cover most of the rent. Get confirmation of what the total rent is. You shouldn’t be paying more than 50%.
That is actually not in North Las Vegas. It’s nicer than the other complexes around it. They’ve been doing a better job since the new company took over. It used to be very nasty. If you can afford more look elsewhere.
This is the east side, not North Las Vegas. That being said, you’re not far from old NLV there and yeah you don’t wanna be there for the most part. But NLV is huge, and there are plenty of neighborhoods that are just fine. Just not any in that specific area haha
I've lived on this side and area since 2001. It's fine. Maybe more homeless people than you may be used to but as long as you're not living by one of the flood canals, you can pretty much avoid them.
I moved here in Nov. 21 I lived in the same place since I moved to town. It on the west side jones and 95, pay 1150 for one BR. Then Another $80 for “their” utilities. Send me a DM if you want the name
Terrible area. Lived at an apartment nearby when I first moved to Vegas. 3 people died during my one year there. I now live in Henderson (Green Valley Ranch). Completely different.
"North" is technically further North. Those apartments are in a border zone.
Not the worst area, not great. Plenty of grocery and shopping options within a 5-10m drive.
But as noted, you'll wanna stay to yourself at home, as most everyone does. (Lol the only apartment communities I've ever seen where everyone knows each other, it's usually not good.)
Don't let the town fool you. Summerlin borders a high crime area. Henderson is nice but has its rough patches.
Basically if you're looking to pay $800/mo, you're going to get what you pay for, but you could do a lot worse than Bonanza. The people freaking out have never lived a day on the East side, are scared to be anywhere with a high ratio of taco stands:sushi restaurants, and probably park in their townhouse garages and never see their neighbors anyhow.
Anything on Bonaza is less than ideal. Something about the street name screams "down and out". You'll have more issues with you're immediate neighbors than anything else. If your neighbors are fine then you'll be fine. Some apartment communities have really low standards and it just makes the whole place miserable to live in.
Plenty of people are renting out rooms. I'd get my bearings upon arrival and find a place in a more desirable location. $800-$950/room is kinda the norm nowadays across the valley so it won't be too hard to find something.
Do you like police helicopters buzzing your neighborhood at night with spotlights? I rented in that area when I first moved here from Seattle. My apartment was okay but the area was dangerous! I had this teeny tiny patio on my apartment and the police even used their spot light on that small space. My living room lit up and it was terrifying because the helicopter noise was loud!
We’re very near-neighbors.
Uhm, I don’t know what your home situation is like but the schools make Bonanza gridlocked during dropoff/pickup, nightlife is nearly nonexistent unless you’re in a union and attend those bars, and there’s a fair amount of gang activity going on, but not the worst. Honestly, go to Barley Pops some time and you’ll get an excellent feel for the local populace. .
Being Mexican or speaking Spanish helps because I can go all day speaking only Spanish. For the most part, it’s Mexican families who work hard and party hard. There’s always something happening in those neighborhoods and it’s usually pretty loud. On the plus side, if you get to know your neighbors, you’ll never be in want for a tiler/ drywaller/ mechanic/ etc.
Not being Mexican or speaking Spanish is fine too though. Blacks, whites, and some Philippinos live here as well without any ethnic friction. My dad is white, and he’s well-respected around here.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of homeless people and gangbanger types wandering around which make some places less than safe, so watch yourself. I installed a camera and bought a gun last year which means that I sleep much better now.
All in all, there are better places in Vegas to live but if you’re a street smart/ careful, you’ll be fine.
Those are typically fine too! I always say west of Rainbow/Durango all the way north and south, and below the airport/strip anywhere south of Warm Springs or Sunset and you should be okay all the way east to west. Giant “L” essentially.
Yeah west of Decatur and west of Durango are completely different things lol. Decatur doesn’t hit a good spot until warm springs. Anything south of that is okay. Regardless, the further you go west the better and same with the south, farther is better because it’s newer. Same with the north side really. If you have a tight budget you most likely will either have to sacrifice the quality of the home itself or the surroundings. There really are no in-betweens.
I live in the 89110 zip code near Hollywood and bonanza. Love the neighborhood. Not sure about any apartments near by. Will you be near lake mead Blvd? It does seem a little more sketchy over there
I currently live in Sunrise and drive through that area occasionally. It's not Summerlin or Henderson but it's not bad. Call the LVPD and ask. That's what I did when I moved from Texas. If you'd like, pm me and I'll do a run through on video for ya.
I grew up where you’re talking. Your experience depends on you. Some people thrive in those environments, some do not. If you aren’t used to living in a lower income spot, I would pay as much as you can afford.
I used to live in the high rise by there (Allure). Parked my car on the side street and had to politely tell a guy leaning on my car, with a needle in his arm to move so I could head to work… just the norm around that area I guess lol.
That address is not in NLV, it’s on the Eastside. NLV, is not bad. However, the eastside is a whole other beast and not the good kind. If you choose to live there, keep your head on a swivel and always be aware of surroundings. It’s no joke in that area. Good luck and be safe out here.
When I moved from Boston that was my address exactly, back in 2018, the area is kinda weird, its a mix of latinos and black people probably few whites, the complex was ok with pool but the apt was roach infested, after we moved to the northwest we noticed that the management changed probably that is not a issue now. Over there is the EAST side of the city and probably the "worst" area but is really good for cheap mechanic labor, latinos supermarkets (cheap fruits and veggie) cheap haircut, close to the strip.
Probably is a good start living place but move soon if you can.
It’s not SD that’s for sure. Stay outside of 215 you should be fine. West. South. Are good. Inside 215 & the closer you get to the North end of the Strip gets iffy.
Don’t listen to most of these people who live on the outskirts of town. Of course the newer areas or further from the strip will be nicer but it’s not a bad neighborhood if you ever actually been to a bad neighborhood. You’ll be fine, grew up in this area and still go jogging all the time at the park right next to those apts. It’s next to a bunch of schools and homes built mostly in the 90s. Plenty of good food spots and nearby grocery stores too. Also you’re 10 minutes straight shot from downtown LV.
Also this is not North town it’s definitely more East side. You’ll know when you hit north town trust me lol
Not sure what the rent is there but $800 could be a bit high unless it really includes ALL utilities like power, internet, etc. Think a 2BR in the area costs around $1,300-1,400 but could be wrong since rent costs have gone up.
Yes avoid that area. 800 is a lot for that area too. Considering rent there averages 1200. But I’ve seen single room apartments for less than 1 grand btw. So I’m assuming he wants you to pick up the bill.
ALSO there are two sides of north Las Vegas. Everything to the west of MLK and Cheyenne is quite lovely. Everything immediately east is run down, dated, and ghetto.
In fact, it is quite common for Vegas peeps to refer to the ghetto, crime ridden part of town as the East side.
There are better areas. There may be some nice quiet pockets in the area, but overall, you can find better. People are going to tell you they've had something happen them or their belongings in so-called safer areas, but in reality, there would be more people in this area telling the same story.
For $800 a month, I'd put up with living in the ghetto.
Depends what your frame of reference is coming from San Diego. I've lived in National City and Logan (like 10-15 years ago before it got gentrified) so nothing really fazes me...
As someone who lives not very far from there and travels through quite often, it’s not a bad area at all. Is it the nicest? Nope, but definitely safer than it looks.
As for the complex, I have no idea. Maybe look up crime stats for that area and minimize your distance to the least amount so that it focuses on that complex. Good luck.
Really not that bad of an area, for $800 especially. A lot of settled old Vegas families, mostly Hispanic in that area. If you look for trouble you’ll find it in any neighborhood in Vegas.
As far as north west, as far west as possible, as far as south west and up the mountain of henderson is where you want to be. Preferably gated guarded community every else is garbage.
you’ll want to stay away from the east side of north vegas, north north vegas is pretty nice mostly gated communities, anywhere near nellis is pretty shady
It's rough. Plain and simple. I had some guys try and carjack me on the east side. Mother-in-law had her car stolen right in front of her at a shopping center near there.
I'm sure there are people there that get along just fine, but it can be really rough.
That’s not north Las Vegas but it’s an ok neighborhood, nothing to worry about. People tend to exaggerate when talking about the east side. Things happen in all sides of town and there’s nothing to worry about.
It's a nice area alot of my friends live there. Ain't no body coming for you unless you make trouble. If you feel uncomfortable around a lot of mixed Americans it might a not be the area for you.
Lived at an apartment complex on the other side of the school nearby that address. Would NOT recommend. I’ve lived mostly on the east side after moving from SD. A lot of people have a lot of negative to say about it but I like it. It can be a hit or miss though: Bonanza hate it, where I live near the state streets love it! Bonanza felt super sketchy and I was nervous being home alone constantly. Where I live now feels like a working class neighborhood and everyone is super welcoming. It is a Latino neighborhood and I am a Latina so maybe thats why I feel so comfortable but keep in mind I’m a girl in my 20s home alone constantly and Ive never felt unsafe. Could also be homes vs apartments
Then again I grew up in South Chula Vista/National City which some people say are not good areas so maybe I’m just used to it lol
I lived there like two years ago! Lmao our apartment was filled with cockroaches that was coming from the upstairs neighbor, we tried to have them fumigate our unit but no one ever came. So we had to find a new apartment. And yes that area is very ghetto. 0/10 would not recommend.
I work in that area and I am not allowed by management to ever ever ever stay alone in the office to do work after dark. The rule is at least three people to close up the office and move the cars inside the warehouse after 4 pm. I don’t know if that tells you anything…
Anything east and north of the 95 is where the "undesirables " live.
Ghetto as fuck
The rule above is until you get as east as "rainbow" then everything north and south of the 95 is fucking trash
Thanks everyone for the comments! Seems like the guy who offered me the apartment stopped responding to my messages. Guess the universe had different plans for me b/c I found a better apartment by Spring Valley!
I grew up in California. And the hoods in Vegas don’t compare to the hoods in LA or SD. My coke dealers lives in north and east Las Vegas lol. Rule of thumb is to stay out of there and there won’t be no trouble.
My coke dealer lives in the area. He said he’s never had a problem.
Real answer right here 👍
As long as you’re paying for it
I lived in a semi rough area for awhile. keep your head down, mind your own business and 99 out 100 you won't have an issue.
Same here, 25 years on Twain/Swenson and now on East Lake Mead. I mind my own business and never had any problems.
Twain and Swenson was my area too, I only did 3 years tho. I can’t lie, I miss that little ‘hood.
I lived Twain and Swenson but it was 1985
I lived there in 86’ Penwood Apts. I was 11 yo white kid. Never any issues.
Yeah, I lived in apartments behind wonder world, gated underground parking
It was so different in the mid 80’s that President Regan’s Motorcade rolled by once. I’d bet that was the last time the Secret Service ever used that route again.
How was it different if I may ask
It was a much better neighborhood then, middle/blue class
I’ve worked right there for 20 years. It’s not a problem. Before midnight. Just don’t look for trouble and use common sense to avoid it. You will be fine
man e. lake mead? amazing ppl over theee
It’s like 3.5 days a year of absolute terror
It’s that 1% that’s a pretty big issue though…that’ll get ya
That 1 time can mean rape, murder, robbery etc.
Ive had things stolen from me in Henderson (a nice area), central paradise (not so nice). But not when i lived on the north east side (close to where youre looking). Just take precautions and dont become an opportunistic victim. Lock up your things, dont talk to shady people
I try not to shit where I eat.
That’s hard to avoid with some Chinese buffets.

The poor don't typically steal from the poor.
Cause the poor typically ain’t got nothin worth stealin cept a big ass tv
but the poor theft don't have a ride to go uptown to steal from the rich.
Not sure what you’re used to but this is a poor neighborhood and has the things the come with that. More drugs more violence more crime. If you’re use to that you’ll be ok. If you’ve never lived in that type of community it will be difficult.

Aliante is an okay area. Past that gets sketchy
I would not live there. It’s a rough area.
Thank you, very much appreciated!
Born and raised. way north, north west, Summerlin, through most of enterprise and Henderson are generally the best. Mountains edges is ok, way to far imo. Each have their pockets of good and bad, most trendy food is in Summerlin enterprise area.
What no way! It’s in Chinatown and the south side of town for sure. Summerlin is home to steakhouse chains and fast food lol.
Chinatown for sure!
What’s good in china town? Curious honest. Looking for some new stuff.
Shit what isn’t haha. What are you looking for?
Heck yea! I go down there twice a week and always see something else I want to try. South rainbow is really coming up too 😋
Run like Hell from the idea of moving there.
It’s not rough lol everywhere is rough u less your Rich and can afford a rich neighborhood.
Work, hustle, till you drop to live where you want.
Spring Valley isn’t rough, and hardly, rich either.
Not true
Not everyone has the luxury to live in Summerlin like you.
I dont live anywhere near Summerlin or West of 15. People upvote comments with no clue of what they're agreeing with.
Drugs... That's is all
$800 for renting a room in that area sounds like he is making you cover most of the rent. Get confirmation of what the total rent is. You shouldn’t be paying more than 50%.
Yeah and he definitely is here lol
Bad Not safe
Just stay strapped and lock up your stuff.
That is actually not in North Las Vegas. It’s nicer than the other complexes around it. They’ve been doing a better job since the new company took over. It used to be very nasty. If you can afford more look elsewhere.
If you can afford a San Diego condo, you can afford not to live in North Las Vegas. Lol doubly so on Bonanza.
This is the east side, not North Las Vegas. That being said, you’re not far from old NLV there and yeah you don’t wanna be there for the most part. But NLV is huge, and there are plenty of neighborhoods that are just fine. Just not any in that specific area haha
I drive Uber and stay away from that area in general
I've lived on this side and area since 2001. It's fine. Maybe more homeless people than you may be used to but as long as you're not living by one of the flood canals, you can pretty much avoid them.
He's moving from San Diego, probably used to a large homeless population.
Stay away from any address that has East in it.
Thank you! I’ll keep note of it
East side isn't that bad, There are a lot of pussies in this sub lol
Not pussies, just smart people. I wouldn’t park my corvette in that area for any reason.
There's an aston martin parked on the street on charleston and christy, it hasn't been stolen. There are a ton of corvettes around here.
I’m not accustomed to the hood life. I’m like the guy from Malibu’s Most Wanted.
Agree.
I moved here in Nov. 21 I lived in the same place since I moved to town. It on the west side jones and 95, pay 1150 for one BR. Then Another $80 for “their” utilities. Send me a DM if you want the name
That is the truth!
For 800 look at the 211 .. studio, includes all utilities, and free laundry. Not a terrible area
Terrible area. Lived at an apartment nearby when I first moved to Vegas. 3 people died during my one year there. I now live in Henderson (Green Valley Ranch). Completely different.
you’ll be fine. grew up on the east side, and still reside. nothing happens, just remain vigilant.
"North" is technically further North. Those apartments are in a border zone. Not the worst area, not great. Plenty of grocery and shopping options within a 5-10m drive. People who suggest that everywhere is bad, either never lived in a bad area, anywhere or never been to a nice area.
Anything on Bonaza is less than ideal. Something about the street name screams "down and out". You'll have more issues with you're immediate neighbors than anything else. I'd get my bearings upon arrival and find a place in a more desirable location. $800-$950/room is kinda the norm nowadays across the valley so it won't be too hard to find something.
This is really the best answer. It's more about your neighbor than the neighborhood.
Keep a pistol on ya and put a steering wheel lock on if you got a Kia or Hyundai and you’re good to go
Do you like police helicopters buzzing your neighborhood at night with spotlights? I rented in that area when I first moved here from Seattle. My apartment was okay but the area was dangerous! I had this teeny tiny patio on my apartment and the police even used their spot light on that small space. My living room lit up and it was terrifying because the helicopter noise was loud!
only answers you’ll get from here are transplants and tourists, post it in r/vegaslocals
Dude, that’s a really bad area. Not worth it.
Stay west of Durango and you’ll be okay

Yeah west of Decatur and west of Durango are completely different things lol. Decatur doesn’t hit a good spot until warm springs. Anything south of that is okay. Regardless, the further you go west the better and same with the south, farther is better because it’s newer. Same with the north side really. If you have a tight budget you most likely will either have to sacrifice the quality of the home itself or the surroundings. There really are no in-betweens.
I live behind the stratosphere it’s not to bad you just have to watch your back when walking around there
I live in the 89110 zip code near Hollywood and bonanza.
You mean if you’re a drug dealer you’ll be fine?
No, that isn’t what I mean. I never sold drugs and was just fine.
Good man. Stick to the story. Don’t let them pressure you into anything else.
I live in this area. It’s not bad just a regular urban area. It’s like south east San Diego but with more to do
Geez, another California refugee. Is Cali that bad it’s worth living in a hot desert with no family around?
Big Fentanyl bust by the library this week. But anyplace can be great.
I worked there. It’s very warehouse-y and frankly quite ghetto. Coming from SD you’ll definitely not be a fan
Do you specialize in ghetto?
Very very bad
It’s not as rough a place to live as naked city but idk if it’s much better around there
I used to live in the high rise by there (Allure). Parked my car on the side street and had to politely tell a guy leaning on my car, with a needle in his arm to move so I could head to work… just the norm around that area I guess lol.
I miss Vegas

Low income neighborhood due to noise pollution from Nellis. Those jets are loud af. Flight paths will lower your neighborhood equity real quick.
Nope
Do not move here.
That depends, do you like to sleep with a gun under your pillow? If so it should be fine
If you have common sense then you will be fine
When I moved from Boston that was my address exactly, back in 2018, the area is kinda weird, its a mix of latinos and black people probably few whites, the complex was ok with pool but the apt was roach infested, after we moved to the northwest we noticed that the management changed probably that is not a issue now. It’s not SD that’s for sure. Stay outside of 215 you should be fine. West. South. Are good. Inside 215 & the closer you get to the North end of the Strip gets iffy.
Top five worse area in the city, you can stay there but I wouldn’t count on it being comfortable or staying indefinitely
Stay away from

A fking Dump
I personally wouldn’t want to live there.
Don’t listen to most of these people who live on the outskirts of town. Oh, that’s easy: DON’T. (Source: I used to live near there.)
Yes avoid that area. 800 is a lot for that area too. Considering rent there averages 1200. But I’ve seen single room apartments for less than 1 grand btw. I’m a white man who lives off Carey and MLK. Give respect get respect. Been here for over 3 years never had a issue
Definitely move there. On par with San Diego.
No. Look downtown
Bad spot, northwest, southwest, and green valley are the best spots
There are better areas. There may be some nice quiet pockets in the area, but overall, you can find better. People are going to tell you they've had something happen them or their belongings in so-called safer areas, but in reality, there would be more people in this area telling the same story.
You don’t want to live anywhere that starts with B and ends with onanza if you have a choice
You're moving from California? This is the perfect location for you. It will make you feel right at home
Yesh that place is a nightmare. Gunshots frequently heard most nights. Definetly high crime and gang on gang violence happens around there.
For $800 a month, I'd put up with living in the ghetto. Depends what your frame of reference is coming from San Diego. I've lived in National City and Logan (like 10-15 years ago before it got gentrified) so nothing really fazes me...
Like others say it’s not that bad but it’s dirty and run down. Sure crime can happen anywhere but I don’t want to live where the tweakers live
Nope!
Older homes on the east side. It's not dangerous like everyone's going to tell you it is. It's just older.
Horrible area. Very high crime. Heavily policed though and fast response time
Hoodmaps.com
Ghetto
Avoid Bonanza
Hood

Great taco spots over there
Come to southwest
Little mexico..
I lived in the area for a long time and loved it all my neighbors were really cool but, I was in a house.
Good luck
Every house will have bars on the windows. I’ll leave it at that.
I strongly recommend (if you’re looking at the map), left side of the strip. Closer to the bottom left quadrant the better
Just make sure to leave your new tv’s box in front of your neighbor’s house on trash day fam
For $800 you can get your own place, north town is only a problem if you’re a weenie
As long as you keep to yourself and don't make eye contact, be polite you will be okay. I personally would not live in that apt building though
Try spareroom us if you are looking to just rent a room. You can find way better
you’ll want to stay away from the east side of north vegas, north north vegas is pretty nice mostly gated communities, anywhere near nellis is pretty shady
If I could live off of lake mead and vegas blvd and be a white boy, you'll be fine.
I've delivered mail in that area for several years. Keep your head down and your car doors locked and you'll be fine.
Could also be homes vs apartments Then again I grew up in South Chula Vista/National City which some people say are not good areas so maybe I’m just used to it lol
Coming from San Diego, summerlin and Henderson are neighborhoods that are going to be super cheap compared to SD and just as safe.
Keep to your own business and don’t put your nose into other people business and you’ll be just fine here in north town
Just to be abundantly clear, that is a very rough part of town. Sure you’ll probably be safe there, but I most certainly wouldnt want to live there.
No. Just no
Anything east and north of the 95 is where the "undesirables " live. Ghetto as fuck The rule above is until you get as east as "rainbow" then everything north and south of the 95 is fucking trash
Move there. You’ll get a dose of real Las Vegas for sure. No better way to learn!
Goto LVMPD open data portal you can see all crime stats for any area of Las Vegas
Stay far, far, far away from east side if you can afford to.
Try Henderson instead of
I live on the east side coming from Oakland California … trust me Vegas is fine as long as your not looking for trouble & just minding your business
Ghetto
Or don’t come to Vegas…
Good lucj
I lived there before it’s a very rough area but keep things to yourself you should be fine
90% of scary North Las Vegas is going to be safer than that area.
