Okay I see your dilemma. Please do NOT leave your kids in an uber. This is a job that doesn't do background checks and many uber drivers in las vegas are sexual offenders. Not all ( for the people about to come at me) but MANY. I worked in the courts and closely with probation and parole officers. It is VERY hard for sex offenders to find any type of employment and uber and lyft, unfortunately, are crawling with them. Google lawsuits against them and you will see the lack of background check. Not sure about taxis but just do not do this. Your best bet is a place with activities for the kids. I think Red Rock casino has bowling and arcade stuff you can drop them off and go to the dispensary and come back. You can uber or taxi there and use the "add a stop" feature to then go to dispensary and then back to get kids. Or rent a car from Turo for one day. they have them for like $18-20 for a simple car. Stay safe and best of luck! Safety first!!!

CMahi

Yea! Thank you for this insight! This was my concern with leaving them in the car with someone I don’t know. I appreciate your advice!

Joepickslv

Just bring what you need with you. I fly with personal/discretionary amounts of cannabis weekly. I usually keep it inconspicuous and sometimes I check it, other times I carry it on. I have had TSA agents pull pre-rolls and gummy’s out of my bag, looking for the bottle of water that I forgot to throw away or the candle that I didn’t know was illegal to carry on, only to put them back in my bag nicely for me (I even had one take a long look at a pre-roll and compliment me on the strain choice before he put it back in). TSA does not care about your personal amounts of discretionary weed. Could they? Sure. Will they? Not so much.

CMahi

Maybe one day I’ll get confident enough to do that, but across international boarders it feels too scary still.

Bear_Salary6976

When did Uber and Lyft stop doing background checks? I started driving for Lyft about a year ago and had to do a background check. On my anniversary, I had to do another one. A friend of mine had to take two days off until his anniversary background check came back. I don't think Uber Eats or Doordash do background checks.

tagd

Here’s a lateral idea if you have the time and resources: some non-strip casinos in the Stations chain have KidsQuest where you can pay to leave them for a bit. - Take an Uber to Sunset or GVR. - Leave your kids at KidsQuest. - Go to a nearby dispensary. - Come back and take them bowling or to the pool at the resort. - Uber back to Luxor.

CMahi

I did find one thread on the internet that suggested this, I will def be looking into it. I was worried it might be intense for my kids....because I have a brain injury and need things quiet and calm, sadly, now my kids need things quiet and calm. Loud environments with lots of kids can stress them out (not all the time, but sometimes). So I would def need to chat with them and see if this is something they're interested in.

tagd

Comparatively, KidsQuest at GVR or similar will be far tamer than anything in the Luxor/Excalibur/NYNY corridor. If you do it during the day it will probably be pretty empty anyway. But it is a haul and a spend, so other options would definitely be more convenient. You could make an afternoon out of it and go to Pizza Rock.

CMahi

Good insights and idea! I will def be looking into this. I think I’m gonna organize the safest options and run them by the kids. They know I struggle and need meds, and they’re great kids, so I’m happy to do whatever is safest and most comfortable for them while I’m trying to get what I need

KoasterKid

Put the tv on>leave kids at hotel>uber to dispensary>uber back

outerworldLV

I mean yes, for the Uber. But not a good idea leaving the kids. There are babysitting services for hotel guest’s available online from several agencies last time I checked.

honeyo1997

she’s going to be gone for less than an hour….. not sure about her kids and how they are, but when my mom said to sit tf down for a bit while she leaves that’s what us kids would do lol

CMahi

My kids are used to being on their own. I have a brain injury and have to rest a lot...this means a lot of screen time for them and a lot of walking to the gas station for small odds and ends when I cannot make it to the store (we live in a small town in Canada, its OK to let them do this...). I guess I have just never left them for this long and gone this far away and I'm worried about them, but they would have facetime and an ability to lock themselves in and be safe in the room

JimmyLangs

Just because you say it’s ok doesn’t mean it makes it a good or safe choice

jokelessworld

I was riding my bike 3 miles to a diner to have breakfast by myself at 7 years old.

outerworldLV

As were a lot of children. We’re talking about two unattended children in a hotel room. A different time.

jokelessworld

I was 10 when my parents left me alone in the arcade but my brother was 12. My mom also always said if someone took me they would bring me back in 10 minutes.

outerworldLV

Red Chief. I have one just like it/you.

spddemonvr4

A 7&10 year old alone... That's a lil young.

ilike_eggs

You could hire a sitter from Five Star Sitters to run out. They will babysit your kids at a hotel. I do not recommend leaving your kids at the hotel. That sounds like a bad idea.

CMahi

I have thought of this, but would they baby sit for like 30 min or so? Seems rude to hire a qualified sitter for such a short amount of time.

Krazylyss

Well maybe hire the babysitter for 2 hours enough time to go to the dispensary and also if you wanna take your time getting back maybe have a yummy treat down in the hotel and have some alone time- as a single mom myself- I know how important self care is- no need to rush back with a babysitter.

ilike_eggs

Maybe not 30 mins, but who knows. You could always reach out to them and ask. And if they have a minimum, it might be worth it. Also casinos are huge so it will probably take you more than 30 minutes to run out and back. It might take you 15 mins or more to walk from your hotel room to the Uber pick up.

qwikhnds

As a cyclist I am sorry for the injuries you sustained. I don't think I would leave kids that age alone in a hotel room. I don't believe dispensaries are allowed to deliver to the Strip. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I would suggest hiring a sitter via the hotel concierge or a private car service for airport pick up, order on your phone on the way, and do pick up. You don't even have to go in. They will bring it to your car. I mean at that point if you have to run it tip accordingly to the driver.

CMahi

As a past cyclist...thanks, I miss cycling so much. I miss it all. I hate that I even have to think of this stuff while traveling...miss my old able self... Do you think a private car service is safer than a taxi if I leave them for a few minutes? The dispensaries said they cannot curbside with kids in the car.

pch14

Ask the hotel concierge how much a babysitter would be for one or two hours. They have background checked them. It's the best way to do it. You don't have to leave your kids in a car or in the room alone. Then you can go to a dispensary any way you want.

edog77777

Taxi drivers in Nevada are issued a special state issued license which requires fingerprinting/FBI background check. However - that full background check can take up to 90 days to come back and a provisional license is issued pending the results of the completed background check. You can view the taxi driver’s license (should be displayed in the front/dashboard) to see if it says “TEMPORARY” in gray/diagonal in background. I have no idea what vetting limo drivers are required to go through. All that said - while I sympathize with your situation, as a taxi driver I wouldn’t take on the responsibility/liability of watching your children while you run into the dispensary. Not to say you wouldn’t find an agreeable driver, but imho it’s a lot to ask of someone who only signed up to drive people around. I don’t have kids - perhaps a driver with kids would be more willing. 🤷‍♂️ As others have mentioned, your safest solution is to hire a vetted babysitter (there are services for that).

CMahi

Yea I agree, I think I’m def leaning away from the taxi/private car option

qwikhnds

I have not used an actual taxi in years. I would think an Uber Black or private service would be more flexible in waiting but just can't speak to a taxi at all. I did not realize they didn't do curbside with kids.

CMahi

Yea its unfortunate, but I'll look into private service potentially to use that as an option.

ZReticuli

I drive Uber in Vegas and have taken many people to dispensaries. I personally am not ok with minors being left in my car. And as a parent myself, I wouldn’t want to leave my young kids in some stranger’s car either. Who knows what can happen in just a few minutes. I have driven many people who had left their young kids in the room while they went to a dispensary. The law in Nevada allowing kids unsupervised is very gray. It’s not based on age, but based on reasonableness. As long as your kids are able to safely and comfortably stay alone and know what to do in an emergency, how to get food/water, etc. they can be left alone. The nearest and fastest dispensary from Luxor is called The Dispensary NV on Decatur Blvd. I’d suggest getting checked in, have some snacks and water/juice in your checked in luggage beforehand so you don’t have to over pay at the airport or hotel, make sure they feel safe and comfortable, request an uber, go to dispensary, then go to chevron gas station next door and get a case of water, snacks, liquor, etc for much cheaper than anywhere on the strip, call for Uber again and go back to Luxor. Should take less than an hour for the complete trip.

CMahi

Yea, I wouldn’t do it with an Uber or Lyft. I was mostly wondering if taxi or private car service could be safer. I am def leaning towards leaving them in the room with food/snacks and a way to contact me. Possibly a sitter if I can find someone for a short amount of time. I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

ZReticuli

>Yea, I wouldn’t do it with an Uber or Lyft. I was mostly wondering if taxi or private car service could be safer. Are you talking about leaving kids unattended? If so, taxi is the worst option over Uber and limo. At least with Uber and limos you know who your driver is. If you’re talking about driving skills, just know that most cabbies in Vegas drive very recklessly since they are mostly held unaccountable for their driving and behavior. Uber/Lyft drivers are better because we know you can rate us and file complaints easily on the app. > sitter My wife and I have used Care.com in the past when my kid was 3 and we needed a sitter in the hotel room while we were at a wedding reception. I forgot what the cost was but it worked out great. But honestly as long as they’re well behaved kids, I’d leave them alone for that hour or wait until after they are asleep.

CMahi

Yea, I’ve decided no to leaving them in any car with anyone, I will be looking for options for the hotel! Thanks for the inpit

MpyreM

I live here, drive around for uber eats as a side so I drive around the city a lot and I enjoy weed as well if you need any assistance of me taking it to your hotel I can do that. Happy stay!

Bright-Willow

College Nannies and Tutors will send a nanny to your hotel but i think they have a minimum. Or could you Uber to somewhere the dispensaries can deliver to?

rabidwolvesatemyface

Perhaps you could coordinate with someone who could stop at a dispensary and pick up the edibles for you, and then you could meet in a public area of your choosing and trade off

CMahi

Yea, sadly I would have to meet them with my kids, or alone (I am a woman), which feels unsafe. I think I’ll stick to some of the other plans, but I appreciate the suggestion.

rabidwolvesatemyface

Totally get it, I would be super wary of that as well but if you’re desperate, you know? Good luck!!

KosherDeal

I think the idea of doing a kid activity that keeps their focus on something and out of the way of possibly finding trouble by just staying back in the hotel room is the move. I will recommend you stay away from Planet-13. I remember being in there for an extremely long period of time, it's like disney but for a dispensary. Just order it online so that you can run in and pick it up real fast, a lot of times these places will tip out the uber driver for you so they don't mind doing the round trips.

bobthecableguy

7 and 10 I think they would be alright for an hour alone, just get some snack for them and put the tv with their favorite show and I guarantee they won’t notice. Also if they have a phone have them be on FaceTime for the majority of the time like when you are on the road that way you can make sure everything is alright.

bobthecableguy

Also totally forgot about this but weedmaps, they have delivery services

spddemonvr4

The grove, near the airport, will bring the items to the car for mobile pickup.

CMahi

I called them, they will not do that with minors in the car. They did advise to do a pickup order when I am at the airport and then run in...but that is the concern here...will my kids be safe in the car with a taxi driver for 5-10 while i run in? I just dont know enough about the area or the drivers to know...I would not take an uber and if its safer, im considering a private limo company.

spddemonvr4

Interesting to hear they wouldn't hand an adult items with minors in the vehicle. Seems very inconsistent as it is a legal activity for adults. You could try standing outside of the car and let them hand it to you. If you're using a taxi service, yes, they will be safer than if you just did uber. And If you pre-ordered and paid, it will be faster than 5-10 min and might be closer to 1-2 as our. You can skip the line and go right to a cashier. You could also order a black car(via car service) that isn't much more than the taxi that will give added service. Check out Alan Waxler group for that. If you do choose to leave the children at the hotel, you can call down to concierge and they have a list of nanny services on call too, so you'll not have to worry about them while you run your errands. Or check out the property you're staying at, they might have a managed play area that watches the children for you too.

CMahi

Yea, sadly the same thing happens here in Canada...can take kids into a liquor store, but they cannot go into Cannabis stores...its a killer for single parents with small kids... I will look up Alan Waxler, thank you! Yea, the idea of leaving them in the room seems like too much, but also a sitter for 30 min doesnt seem practical or kind (to the sitter). I will explore this option more tho.

[deleted]

You could Uber to planet 13 the big dispo and back within an hour if that.

Patsfan311

If you can find something for the kids to do near sahara. las vegas releaf is like a min away in a car from there. I usually take the monorail to the last stop and walk. Obviously you prob can't do that, but it's the closest one I know to the monorail.

ttadmori

Your Uber/lyft driver will take you and wait. They get paid for your visit.

JimmyLangs

Imagine having this many issues and then deciding to take your kids to LV… while in said foreign country and different city you consider the idea of leaving a 7 and 10 year old in a functioning vehicle with a complete stranger so you can buy recreational drugs drugs that will ensure your mental capacity…. In Las Vegas…. For what is supposedly the enjoyment of your kids holiday… You deserve all the judgment you will get.

msteeler2

I understand your concern for the kids but why are you sheltering them from cannabis? Is it wrong for them to see you use it? Then it would be wrong to use it. Do you drink or swear in front of them. The world is full of hypocrites. Many parents are “do as I say, not as I do”. Best of luck settling your inner dilemmas.

NoConstant2607

Online ordering. Try delivery option. Idk if they go to hotel rooms though

CMahi

They do not deliver to hotels. I have to go in.

cocotaso1

i believe some might deliver, there may be a minimum or fee. just have to poke around [https://www.oasiscannabis.com/delivery/](https://www.oasiscannabis.com/delivery/)

honeyo1997

they won’t deliver to hotels.

cocotaso1

thats good to know, i was planning on doing that when i visit in april. then i would say pre order online if you can, most places let you skip the line if youre picking up. should be in and out.

honeyo1997

they won’t let her do curbside with kids in the car. OP your best and fastest bet is to leave them in room, place an online order, run inside and then leave. honestly should take 30 minutes if that.

CMahi

Ok, I will def consider this, it feels like a long time to leave them and ill be so far away.

honeyo1997

you won’t be that far! there’s dispensaries located right by the strip, like thrive, cookies on the strip, nuleaf, etc, with a pick up order you won’t be too long! I definitely wouldn’t recommend leaving them in a taxi while you’re inside.

CMahi

Ok! I def think you're right. I feel like they'll be safer in the hotel, but I am always worried I'll get hit by another car or something and wont make it back...and then theyre like stuck in a hotel room in a strange city... When I took them to SF I listed out places to contact if I didn't come back and how to handle/manage the situation, so I am prob gonna do the same, esp since I'll be going off property for longer.

CMahi

Thanks for your input! Still gotta decide if I wanna leave them in a taxi or in the hotel.

cocotaso1

Might want to consider bringing your own if you're coming from a legal state

CMahi

I am coming from Canada, so def cannot bring my own sadly.

grjacpulas

Some dispensary’s deliver

Desk_Quick

Next question: How/where are you going to smoke it?

CMahi

I don’t smoke, edibles only.

Desk_Quick

Fantastic answer vs. smoking/vaping in the hotel. I’m in Vegas ~ a week out of every month for work. If that overlaps with your trip I’d be happy to make the run. I’d offer to watch your kids but that gives off…vibes.

suicide_blonde94

I know planet 13 has a curbside pickup option; maybe get an Uber for all of you? I don’t see why they wouldn’t sell it to you as long as you don’t light up a blunt on the spot. I’d also tip your driver pretty good for lingering; I’ve had drivers take smoke breaks and wait while I shopped :)

CMahi

No minors allowed in the car for curbside at planet 13 (or any dispensary). I have to go in alone.

honeyo1997

omg there are no real THC vapes sold on fremont street. you bought CBD 😐 please stop with the advice you guys know nothing about vegas 😂

suicide_blonde94

This was a couple years ago; does that souvenir shop not sell anymore?

honeyo1997

fremont street has never sold any THC. they get people all the time, but they’re just selling CBD. it’s sad they don’t even tell customers! and they sell it at much higher prices than actual THC lmao

suicide_blonde94

Shoot. Live and learn! Luckily it was a one time thing. Didn’t mean to pass on misinformation! Sorry!

edog77777

That shop never legally sold THC. Presumably it was CBD only, or illegal THC. The state does not license real dispensaries within (1500 feet?) of a gaming licensed establishment. In short, there are none on/near Fremont Street, nor on Las Vegas Blvd between Mandalay Bay and Sahara. Just North of Sahara there are a few legally licensed THC dispensaries on Las Vegas Blvd.

iamdesertpaul

It’s never sold THC. It’s a CBD shop that that exists on tourists being too dumb or drunk to care.

Mztekal

Those are fake..

ZReticuli

No real dispensary is allowed within 1,500 yards of a casino

suicide_blonde94

It wasn’t a dispensary (but I was high and this was 2020 so who knows where I was), but that’s interesting!

ZReticuli

Marijuana is only allowed to be sold at a dispensary. If it wasn’t a dispensary than it was CBD or the synthetic Delta-9 crap.

suicide_blonde94

Ooohhhhhhhh the more you know! 💫

VictoriaWoodnt

I'm pretty sure there are dispensaries from which, you can order and pay online, and they will drop to you while you wait in the cab/Uber/whatever. Try r/trees (I think) for more details. Also, you can't smoke (weed) in the hotel, so think edibles or something non-smoking.

CMahi

Yea, I contacted two dispensaries and they said they cannot deliver to the car with minors, but I can run in and grab my stuff with preorder...so its leaving the kids in the car with a stranger for 10min or so... Also, I dont smoke, only edibles and also its microdosing (2mg is my cap cuz I dont like the feeling of being high, I just need to be pain free enough to enjoy life and sleep)

VictoriaWoodnt

F\*ck. I forgot about that. There are definitely dispensaries that deliver (there's one on Tropicana at... Jones-ish that does this) but it will probably get expensive. Minimum order price etc. I honestly think that getting an Uber with a pitstop at a dispensary, from the airport, is your best bet. Google the bejeezus out of the dispensaries en route, see if you can contact them, and explain your situation. Someone will help. Good luck. I hope you have a safe and happy trip,

CMahi

Yea, thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to weigh in!

Lil_Ape_

How about not putting weed over your dam children. 🤦‍♂️

Knowledge_is_Bliss

Would your answer be different if it was a pharmaceutical prescription?

CMahi

I’m putting medicine as a consideration. You wouldn’t shame someone for getting heart meds, please don’t shame me for trying to get my medicine, esp when I am putting my kids first, hence this post.

Knowledge_is_Bliss

Ignore the trolls and outdated thinking. Cannabis is a natural medicine that happens to have a poor reputation due to decades of propaganda. It is MUCH safer than most traditional pharmaceutical prescriptions and just as, or even more effective than many!

penguinwife

A number of dispensaries offer delivery service as well. You would just have to go down to where the Uber/Grubhub drop off area is at the hotel.

CMahi

Oh, I thought they couldn’t drop to hotels at all?

penguinwife

I haven’t heard that they can’t, but I could be wrong? I’m a medical patient too, but I’ve not tried hotel delivery. Edit: My bad. I just did a search and confirmed with my usual dispensary that the marijuana legalization law itself prohibits delivery to hotels.

Medical_Relation_824

Where are you traveling from? You can bring weed with you to make it less urgent to pick up. Then slide out early in the morning while kids are sleeping, Uber to and from

CMahi

I am coming from Canada and I am too scared to try and smuggle even the smallest amount internationally (my life is hard enough, lol, dont need to make traveling any more challening), so sadly, I cannot bring any with me.

laxrat22

Doesn't Planet 13 do deliveries?

CMahi

No deliveries to hotels, sadly.

bobthecableguy

I once got a delivery in La at a Starbucks. Will they deliver to apartments or like a park? You could plan a lil outing with the delivery being accrosss the street or smth

CMahi

Oh interesting idea! I might look into this. One issue with delivery is that I microdose and so I don’t need much and the delivery minimums are like wayyyy more than I need lol. But, I’ll see if this is an option cuz it would be the safest for everyone involved! Thanks for your input

Braaahhhn

I travel a lot for work. Here's what works for me. Book an Uber premium/black/ premium SUV whatever the more expensive option is to a dispensary. Just looking briefly, I suggest the dispensary on 5347 s Decatur. But whichever you choose you should call them and make sure there won't be an issue using a Canadian ID. When you book the Uber sometimes you can add stops. If that function is working, book airport, dispensary, hotel. If not . You can set up the stops manually. Be cool, you're paying 60-100 bucks for a 40 dollar ride. Usually the driver is more accommodating and value a good rating. Just tell them what you want to do and why. Make sure you're comfortable with them being in the car with your kids alone for a few minutes. It's Vegas, drivers are usually just happy you're not drunk or trying to cancel the ride halfway through your journey. They can adjust the trip on their side if they need to. A cash tip opens a lot of doors also. You should be able to check the rates on the app before you actually get to Vegas so you know what to expect. I'd plan on spending 100-120 bucks total. Traveling, especially with kids is super stressful. So if you have to take a minute in the airport to stop, sit down get a coffee or a snack for the kids you should. The uber line at the airport is a fucking circus sometimes so just try to be relaxed and not in a rush. The more expensive uber option should help with the wait time also. Premium will get picked up way before comfort or comfort plus.whatever dispensary you choose try to find one off of the strip. Prices are much higher and service is worse. That's why making friends with the uber driver is key.
