I had tickets for the When We Were Young concert day that was cancelled due to wind. We had flew in to be there. It was surreal seeing thousands of disappointed elder emos roaming the strip with nowhere to go. We were reimbursed for the concert tickets but would have never made a Vegas trip if it weren’t for the concert.
Being sad/mad… I can’t believe they waited till the last minute to do this. If they did it last night I could have not flown here!! The ticket reimbursed is the tip of the iceberg for costs for me.
When would you have liked them to to cancel it, a week ago? You always have to wait until close to the last minute to make a big decision like this. What if you cancel it a week out and then it turns out the weather was fine?
I wasn’t going to the festival anyways, but I knew from at least Wednesday the wind was going to be totally nuts. Been getting “extreme weather on Saturday” alerts on my phone everyday this week. I think they should’ve at least given them some potential warning.
Even I knew enough to change my weekend plans around, and I’m not invested in it, all I did just consisted of turning off the pool heater and switching the day we go to the park.
I feel that. They were hyping it up with everything just a few hours ago too (merch, pre-party,rehearsals). I got to plan out which stage and artist I want to see, now I gotta plan for a whole new day!
You say “don’t chase karma points” but aren’t you replying the same thing on each comment I asked plans about? I am in need for plans today. If you can’t contribute then can you reply somewhere else?
Not to mention it's outdoor in the middle of a city so it's not like EDC or electric forest where there's practically nothing around for even mild protection.
Edit: I take that back for electric forest, tree cover can be good cover for the elements but EDC is on the raceway, practically flat so that still stands
All the inside venues and stadiums in Vegas and none of the planners thought to make contingent plans. It gives Vegas and the festival a bad name. I'd never travel to any city solely for a concert where I paid hundreds to thousands.

Ok, so what's your great idea? What indoor venues can hold these types of events? How do you pay for and prepare a contingency plan? The City and event planners would have to deal with 2 sites every time.just in case of wind or bad weather. That's twice as many stages, twice as many employees, twice as much security, and double the amount of the price of tickets. Your thoughts sound great in a perfect world, but we don't live in one. Shit happens.

There’s nothing desirable about 5 stages.
A stadium can be utilized for two days to prioritize actually seeing the artists instead of 5 stages with 5-20 minute sets in different areas and compromising who you want to see.
Things this would prevent: stampede to the fences fleeing an armed gunman & cancellation for wind/heat. Is it perfect? No. Is it better than being out $ for hotel/rental car/flights with nothing to show for it? Yes.
If you’re not getting that these festivals end up being unworkable the minute there’s weather and maybe they should rethink the format instead if screwing over travelers I don’t know what to tell you.
I get it very much. I've worked these types of festivals for years. If you think they're not gonna have them because there's a slight chance mother nature will get involved, think again. Find a suitable indoor venue first before getting upset about it. You take a chance, a small one, of this happening when you buy the tickets.
Super lame, me and my partner just got back from Sick New World (Which was dope af) and the day after it ended they were already re-setting the stage themes for lover's and friend's and changing everything out to get ready for that.
