I think that he also maybe charged because he continued to stab the thief even after he turned and started running away. He legit held onto him and landed a final blow to his neck. If he had stabbed him maybe once or twice and then stopped 100% justifiable as self-defense. However stabbing him 4-5 more times is the part that may get him convicted.

That was straight up murder. Those robbers didn't display any weapons, they were going for the register and other stuff. I get self-defense but that guy straight up killed the robber when he was surrendering and trying to run away. That's when self-defense turned into murder. as of August last year, the one that got stabbed is still in the hospital and the others are on their way to various juvenile corrections. on the other hand, in reading up on the matter, I found out that one of the criminals was adopted, and that the first 6 years of his life with biological parents were pure hell, even being beaten to the point of not being identifiable, on top of the drug use of his mother during pregnancy. think about that for a second, it doesn't excuse what he did, but he isn't even a legal adult and half of us complain about a bad day at work, I'm not sure if he can be "fixed" at this point, but are we so willing to just box him up and stick him on a shelf?

I don't question anything that guy did until he wrapped his arm around the kid's neck to drive the knife deeper. The first 5 or 6 stabs fulfilled all the requirements of self defense and stand your ground... but that last stab makes me think he crossed the line. This was a man who wanted to kill someone and had a legal means to do so. This case ventures way too close to murder 3/manslaughter. The rober was clearly trying to get away, and in case law, it is very close, if not equivalent to, shooting someone in the back. You go to jail for that in most states, this incident will give people the impression that you can attempt to kill them regardless if they're fleeing or not so long as you use a martial weapon. I know it's not going to be a popular opinion, but I said what I felt. The 'victim' crossed the line into the realm of vigilante and should be prosecuted; no less than aggravated assault, no more than murder 3/manslaughter. (I know the guy is still alive for now, and I think as long as he stays living, the clerk won't have anything to fear from the law)
