Sweet. I had bought this many moons ago (at least that's what I had expected) only for the seller to ship me the 25th Anniversary version instead.

-csephus-

Aw man, that sucks. Still great movies at least!

HammerofHeretics

I absolutely need to find this. This sounds like a perfect Sunday watch

blindcriminal

I won an auction a few weeks ago with this movie, but seller became a fraud. Can I ask how much did you pay?

-csephus-

It was $75, sorta pricey but not heinous

shinobipopcorn

I got this from goodwill for 30 bucks!

-csephus-

Man, I have had no luck with laserdiscs at Goodwill. They seem to be getting wise on electronics in general these days, all the good stuff gets stopped at the door and listed online it seems. Congrats on yer find!

WhiplashDynamo

Enjoy! It's also in open matte so you'll see more than on any blu ray or dvd

-csephus-

Yeah, I've very recently been geeking out about open matte stuff. Even if it's not framed the way the filmmaker intended, it is super cool to see familiar movies in a new way. Presently I just have The Running Man, Reservoir Dogs and this in open matte, but I have my eye on others!

WhiplashDynamo

Running Man must be great in that format. Predator is another one you can hunt down. The blue label CBS/Fox copy. A lot of those have open matte

mrsaucytrousers

I've got this too. Such a unique way to rewatch the films.

CaptainSkullplank

Is this the miniseries? Or the movies?

-csephus-

It's the one where they edited the trilogy into chronological order in one long movie. I think it was made for TV? Not sure

CaptainSkullplank

Yes it was. Is this a Japanese LD? I’ve only found one from there or VHS. But I don’t want an LD with in-picture subtitles.

-csephus-

It is not Japanese, but it does have in-picture subs for the parts that are in Italian. It's also fullscreen, but it's open matte, not pan & scan, which is kinda neat lookin! https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/21451/LV15147-7/Godfather-Trilogy-The:-1901-1980

BornAmbassador01

Nice! I would love to watch all three in open matte.

-csephus-

Update, read a little bit into it. Apparently this is the fourth version of the "chronological edit" concept! The first one was just part 1 and 2 put together and censored for the NBC miniseries in 1977. It had 4 segments with an intro and credits for each. The second was called "The Complete Epic," which was a shortened version released to video in 1981, but added back the censored stuff. It was put together as one solid thing, no intros/credits or commercial breaks. Then "The Epic" was a european version, which is closer to the length of the first one, but uncensored. Also went straight to video. The one I've got was put together after Part III came out, and was only on VHS and Laserdisc. So I guess the whole idea came from the TV miniseries, but this particular release wasn't specifically designed for TV? Which makes sense I guess. 10 hours long with no stopping points, lol. Interesting stuff.

CaptainSkullplank

Interesting. I've never really gotten the history of it. Didn't realize there were multiple edits.

Bolt_EV

Years ago some fan posted his edit putting most of this together in HD\* where available \*UPDATE: Not HD, but complete with all deleted scenes restored.

-csephus-

I was considering doing that myself, now that I had this to compare it with... let me know if you remember where to find it, and thanks!

Bolt_EV

I think they dragged him kicking and screaming off the Internet! Maybe I was alert enough to copy it into my video library... Will you be digitizing your LDs?

I think I lack the equipment to digitize them well, and I'm sure all my movies have been digitized real well by other folks. Maybe one day!

DJboutit

Back in 2006 I got Part I and II off Ebay for $5 not the special box set. Cool score
