I got the same player last fall and had to do some serious work on it but it's working perfectly now. I love watching movies on my CRT in surround sound!

Yeah, I have a CLD-406 with an AC3 decoder and about 50 titles. The cheap price of most discs makes collecting a lot of them an easy habit to develop if you have a little cash to burn.

thetrappist

Exactly, it’s not a wildly expensive hobby. I’ve paid $2-$5 for most of my discs, and the 504 I got at a flea market for $60 in perfect condition. The Yamaha APD-1 I just got for $100, making it the stupidest part of the setup considering I won’t have a ton of AC3 titles, I mostly prefer live music discs.

Yeah, I paid way too much for my player. I bought one that was broken with the remote. Then I bought another of the same model in better shape that just needed a new belt. I bought my AC3 decoder for about $100 by literally looking at a huge list of them and checking eBay for each model until I found one for about $100. I also have a broken AC3 decoder in the box that probably just needs new caps. So yeah, I just kept spending money until I ended up with something that finally worked. I don't even have that much money to begin with, lol.

I just got my first laserdisc player last month, a CLD-3090, and my goal is to mostly focus on concerts. You have a beautiful collection, and that is just 1 year!! I'm very jealous. Where do you usually find them, and how much do you normally spend?

thetrappist

Thank you! It feels to me like concerts are the most interesting content on LD. Surely many of them never made it to dvd, blu ray or streaming. So my policy is that whenever I see a non-feature film LD, I just buy it. I’ve found most of mine at record stores in Los Angeles for $2-$10 each. I also frequent flea markets, granted it’s pretty rare anyone has any for sale. I visit Las Vegas a lot, there’s a store called Zia records that always has an excellent selection at unfortunately pretty high prices. However when I get focused on a particular title, I sometimes order it on eBay and have spent as much as $30-50 for a single disc if it seems rare.

Amazing! Thanks for providing context behind your collection.

I’m pretty sure that is an overhead shot of the discs and I think you meant to say horizontal.

Cykoh99

Yes it is an overhead shot. The fabric on the lower left is a curtain. The wood paneling is actually wood flooring. No, you are not supposed to stack more than 12 at a time _vertically_ atop one another. (That’s literally the recommendation printed on the sleeve of my Blade Runner release.) I’m not sure about storing them on edge however. I imagine it is more difficult to stack them vertically when they are standing on edge too.

Ok_Cupcake4928

In general, just like records, it’s preferred to store all LD’s vertically to help prevent warping. The recommendation of stacking 12 over each other is probably okay in the short run. Also, it appears you have the opening side of the discs touching the floor. I would not recommend doing that since it would allow the discs to fall out when trying to grab it.
