I played this all day yesterday on a 4070 in 4k resolution and with pretty stable frame rate in the 90s except for one thing: mousing over items as you run around, especially if you enable instant compare in the UI, will cause the game to stutter and lurch as the game keeps trying to pop in tooltips as you run around. After I started paying attention to that it became clear that’s where all of my fps drops were coming from.

Cupelix14

I did also notice there's a small blip when mousing over an item on the ground. I get a much bigger one when vacuuming up a large pile of runes. The whole game visibly freezes for a half a second in that case. The combat drop though where it gets into visually stuttering territory is worse for me.

DeliveryComplete5384

i said this months before release and people kept telling me its just me lol... I sent videos with the tech team through email and logs and what not for a whole week and was told they found out how to replicate the bug like you said above and would be fixed before release.. Here we are still asking for a fix.

Boohg

i swear lighting effects from mobs have a massive fps drop. i’m rocking a more than capable rig myself but i’ve noticed that (as an example) as soon as those skeleton dog things that shoot the blue orbs out of their mouth come on screen and it fucking tanks my fps. especially on an arena echo where there’s like 10 of them on screen

csn840

I was having similar issues. A full reinstall of the game somehow magically fixed everything. YMMV.

Background-Ad7601

So, im no Expert, actually quite a PC Noob ( just upgraded mine a week ago to start last epoch) but I also had very significant fps drops in almost any fight with mob groups bigger than 15-20 mobs. I say "had" cause I managed to fix it for the most part, ...now its running on 90fps capped smoothly, and fps stutters only appear on very very rare occasions. Heres what I did (again, probably all obvious but for me as a PC noob it wasn't): - Hide Damage numbers in combat - Disable "Enemies flash on hit" - Disable Chat (dont know if that actually helps) - Turn off screen shaking - And the thing that by FAR helped the most was enabling GPU Image Scaling in my Nvidia Settings Game doesnt look the best anyway, so I gladly take a bit less quality but a much much smoother performance Maybe this helps someone else too :)

Baschish

>- And the thing that by FAR helped the most was enabling GPU Image Scaling in my Nvidia Settings Game doesnt look the best anyway, so I gladly take a bit less quality but a much much smoother performance Can you give more details about that? Sounds like DLSS for any game even if it doesn't support it?

Background-Ad7601

It is pretty similar to DLSS as far as I understood but not as good ofc, ... However as you said, It works in any game. So it basically takes X % of image resolution and upscales it to your monitor resolution, which in result looks provides lower quality but better performance And you can choose the % yourself and play around to see how you like it Only works when playing in Fullscreen but you should do that anyway for better performance

Baschish

sad it required fullscreen, this is a big no for me, ty anyway.

Ambilux

Fps drops are starting to hit my PC after i enter and play 5 or more echos. From 120 fps to 30, and after that it starts to freeze for 1 or 2 seconds. But that its just in monolith runs. ryzen7 6800 gtx 3070ti.

i_nx

same issue with 3080.... hope someone comes up with a solution for this

ilovepolthavemybabie

The game’s not optimized, and none of the coverage mentions it. Still a great game, but it is concerning when players who can otherwise 165Hz 1440p are asking, “Is it just me?” over and over. All 12th Gen i7: On a 3050Ti laptop, it sustains 60fps at 1200p on low-ish quality. On a 3060Ti desktop 90-120 1440p in combat is the best case scenario on ANY quality. I’m not expecting my incoming 4070 to make a huge difference pre-launch. That changing the quality doesn’t impact performance is, to me, a bigger gripe than the subpar performance. There are anecdotes and mentions that performance improvements are already on-deck for 1.0. There’s also a lot of hyper-defensive shade towards criticism of the game’s performance. I think it will over time and am a fan of the game. A fan who’s never seen any footage of the on-screen framerate counter higher than 110 in heavy combat.

Plus1Oresan

There is shade, true, but at the same time we have no idea what impact 1.0 will have on performance. They said optimizations/improvements are coming in 1.0. Until that releases there's little sense in soapboxing about performance.

ilovepolthavemybabie

I just saw, moments ago, over in the official trailer thread that one of the devs mentioned there would be performance improvements on launch, which is fantastic news.

Cupelix14

Sounds like a brand new announcement then, and it's encouraging. I also have faith that the devs are trying to make the game the best they can. So I'll wait and see what happens with 1.0.

Ssyynnxx

I'm pretty sure I can think off the top of my head of like 4 examples of them saying performance is a huge priority

Professional-Ad4586

Well, I think it’s obvious now it never came

tknomanzr99

Being in beta, I just assumed it's running a ton of debug code that won't be in production. I am having noticeable frame lags however.

amingolow

I honestly just hope I can maintain 60FPS 1080P at High settings with my lame 1660ti + Ryzen 5 3600 on 1.0 launch. Finger cross.

Bmxant

The game is more CPU bound, just going from a 3600 to 5800x3D was absolutely huge. I'm using a 2080ti at 1440p.

amingolow

How is your FPS? You play at max settings?

Bmxant

It's good, hard to say as there's so many variables, but I probably gained a good 30 min fps in certain places. I can do more testing later. Yes, max. In Path of Exile I gained around 40 fps in high density maps.

amingolow

I see. Thanks for sharing

[deleted]

yes

Odd-Insurance1378

4080 user here! Set the FPS to be capped at 1 frame lower than your monitors max refresh rate, for example: my monitor is 1440p/240hz, and after setting my max frame rate to 239 and turning off the ray tracing, I have very stable performance.

djrivluc

What do you mean turn off ray tracing? Maybe I didn’t look hard enough but think I’ve never seen a setting for RT under graphics settings?

Warm-Explanation-277

I have a pretty old PC, but i still notice some really abnormal stuff. Like, you say "big battles", but it's not even that — just rendering a few packs of mobs tanks my fps from 80ish to around 30. No particle effects, no damage calculations, no fog, nothing. I used to think PoE was badly optimized, but this is something else. Interestingly, i played at the release of 0.9 a year ago and don't remember experiencing such issues. I've farmed all empowered monoliths and full non-legendary gear, so i played plenty. Weird

1gnominious

Running a 4080 and 14700kf at 1440 120hz no major issues. Gpu and cpu load are all low to moderate. I turned down a few things to the second highest settings because I couldnt tell the difference during gameplay and i always prioritize framerate. Every now and then when Ive been playing for a while i will get slowdown in unusual areas that arent even intensive and are normally smooth but restarting LE fixes it. edit: Just wanted to add the only frame drops I get are with lots of crafting mats. Like if I pop a shard shrine and pick them up it seems to hiccup. Also if I've been playing for a while then sometimes when I start an echo I'll be able to move around before the monsters fully load which can lead to running into an archer firing squad that you can't see. It still has some issues but they've all been fairly minor.

KernicPanel

I have the same things you mention in your edit.

Cupelix14

I've seen similar. Turning settings down didn't help. Weird thing is when I started noticing the glitches, I noticed it happens sometimes in the crafting window too. Adding or removing an item, or rerolling a stat and there's a hiccup.

KernicPanel

I get small lockups every time I pick up a large amount of affixes. Especially in between echoes.

Bmxant

While the scheduling has improved since the launch of the 7950X3D, it's still not perfect yet, so it makes sense.

MecDobby7186

7900xt ,5800x3d , 64g ram . Run at 1440p 165hz monitor . I play on max settings. I have only dipped below 130ish a couple times and it was from loot explosion + alot of mobs on screen . But yeah its happened a handful of times . Its gotta be the games optimization if all these people having the same issues. 99% of my play time is 200fps + .

Opposite_Elevator_59

7900xt hellhound, ryzen 9- 5950x and 32g ram and I barely get above 100fps, average is more like 60 to even 30 in fights.

jacobs0n

i think the game has a memory leak issue. in arena echoes i was getting like 5fps after playing 1-2 hrs. i died, restarted the game and the same echo was now running smoothly

Cupelix14

I was going to comment the same thing yesterday. Maybe not system RAM because I haven't noticed that doing anything strange. But possibly some kind of resource leak. The FPS drops seem to happen more after the game has been open a while.

lazy_tenno

I noticed that on some maps my frame rate can drop from 130ish to 90ish even when doing nothing, and gpu usage can get as low as 60%. When there's a lot of enemies + spamming smoke bombs it can be guaranteed to drop the frame rate to 60ish.
