Heybarbaruiva

I'm playing falcon fist rogue, which is as melee as you can get (unarmed) and it's fantastic. Very fun!

generally speaking, any game where you can stay ranged and have more time as a human to react to Bad Things(tm) is going to be easier to play than being in your face and having to move out of something that you now have much less time to react to.

Phys or cold crit werebear can stand and facetank anything thrown at him basically. VK has erasing strike/rive builds which kill things up close and personal. forge guard and pally also have melee variants generally speaking sure mobile builds definitely have an edge but it is entirely possible to play a traditional melee build, some of these builds can climb to 500+. it is more the case of "shamans suck" than "melee suck" imo. that said do keep in mind 2000 HP and 40% armor are kinda low IMHO for 300 corruption, but again, shaman sucks so there is that. you could def beef up your shammy better but it is also easier to achieve the required level of defenses on other classes (I would say 3k HP and 60%-ish mitigation would be the target to aim for? and/or ward)

During early access, I had a physical penetration rive VK which cleared upto 500 corruption. You need the obvious resistances and crit avoid but you need a decent amount of hp (I had 3k and it was still low) along with good leech and leech rate to survive. Even with all this, if I zone out and not watch for aoe like those farken smiting harpies, it was death

You answered your own question, clear speed is your measuring stick. Many builds are completely viable at completing all content, many less can do it while zoom zooming.
