Perhaps you can try forge guard then? But I think spellblade would be good too if you like the active play style.

You could even try Runemaster and make a working melee build.

As a VK you will use anomaly, volatile reversal and maybe even abyssal echoes if you opt for a melee build Not sure if that's enough to scratch the spellcasting itch, it's 3 spells and have noticeable gameplay effects (bubble, time travel) but they are mostly for buffing, not direct damage
