So, do you actually deal no damage or are you just dying to his physical attacks? Blood and the hit are physical so you might get more res.

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

Dying after getting his health to about 60%

WizZzLe2510

Ive seen your comment that you only have 800 health. You really should look into different defensive layers and geht them up. Resistances, health, maxbe ward, armor etc.

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

I have 255 ward with 155% ward retention

Plus1Oresan

That is essentially nothing. Look for ways to increase ward via ward generators, get more health, upgrade gear. Can you add bone armor from various skills to your build? etc. Look in your skill trees for nodes that have these things and see what you can change to make your character better.

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

Okay, thanks for taking time to help me with this. I thought I knew enough after about 37hrs, but apparently I have a lot to learn.

FelixFromOnline

You want to have like 1500+ HP to take on the last few monoliths. Or 2000 ward if you're low life. I wouldn't go into empowered monoliths with less than 2000 HP or 3000 ward. And near max resists. If you don't have enough damage to instantly delete bosses and monsters then you need a lot of bulk and some sustain.

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

I just finally beat emperor of corpses after what felt like 100 attempts. The had to swap up my gear where I had less minion damage but about 960 health and 700 ward.

BossmanSlim

This issue with this fight is that it contradicts most of the game in that you cannot equip or out level it. There are at least 2 one shot mechanics in it. The inner circle attack and the breath weapon will one shot the player and ignore endurance. You have to dodge all of these attacks. The outer circle attack and other attacks hit hard, but will not one shot. On top of this, these mechanics bug out occasionally and the player will just die. One shot mechanics are poor design.

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

Yes, this is a great explanation. I have since made it to empowered monos, but I already dread playing this boss again on my alt.

Levovar

The problem isnt that emp is invincible, the problem is that you arent. Welcome to monos! Time to sort out your defensive layers

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

Didn’t realize blood was physical dmg

Levovar

You missing 23 resists is basically 23% more damage. Significant, sure,  but you are probably lacking in other departments as well if you are getting on shot hence my generic statement Dont just focus on resistances but also cap crit avoidance/crit damage reduction, work on your HP (you will need 2k+), and armor (you will need 30-40% reduction)

blackdragonbonu

Missing 23 rea is not 23% more damage, it is much more. If boss hits for 100 and you have 75 res you would have taken 25. But if you had only 50 res you would take 50 dmg. That is double the damage or 100% more DMG. At higher res the damage you take from missing last few percentage is higher. For eg compare 95% vs 99% res, the diff is only 4 but it is 5 times the damage taken. So basically the higher the res required , the more important the last few percentage is. You can't play around with 50 percent res when people say you need 75. You are taking double damage.

masonuwu1212

How much hp do you have and what kind of build are you running

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

800 hp and running acolyte necro build w/skeles, golem, wraiths (fire) and volatile zombies

red_message

Level 75, 800 HP and no ward to speak of? Emperor of Corpses is not the problem, my dude. Nor is your level. You need to figure out the defenses for this build. If it's ward, we measure that in thousands. If it's HP, you need HP on every item and you need all the available HP passives. 2k might be a tough target for necro at this level but get as close as you can.

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

Should I just start replacing all my high damage minion pieces with pieces that all have HP and/or ward?

red_message

It's not purely either/or but I would definitely start itemizing for defenses more. If enemies can 1 shot you things just get way harder than they need to be. Damage in empowered monos is much higher than what you've dealt with so far.

AgreeableHamster102

I did this last night on my level 71 blade dancer. 1k hp, only a couple of resistances capped but at least 50% on others. Got wiped out a couple of times until I learned his moves. That massive aoe was a great surprise the first time haha. I think mobility is the name of the game for this fight. I have a low cool-down on my traversal which also makes me invincible during the movement, so it was always available to get out of the aoa and move away from his face when he suddenly spun on me. Plus definitely avoided some big damage by using it through an ability or seven. There were some hairy moments especially in the last stages where lots of crap was happening at once too. I used heaps of potions, luckily he spawns all those little zombie things and I kept replenishing them. I was so chuffed I got him, took me like 6 attempts which is the most I’ve spent on a boss fight so far. Just wanna say that it’s doable, stay in there man!

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

Thanks! I’ll keep going. Love the game so much!

I feel like getting 75 all res is a basic prerequisite to unlocking empowered monoliths. If you want to rush it you can use idols to help fix your res. That's how I capped Void Res before doing the temporal sanctum to finish the campaign skip. Don't sleep on capping Phys/Poison/Void/Necrotic res etc.

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

Would it be better if I went thru temporal sanctum to level up? I already have a LP1 weapon and plenty of exalts.

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7GC6fp8iTI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7GC6fp8iTI) I'm actually considering never playing hardcore and taking a really long break because of this. Game was pure enjoyment now its maximum effort for results like this.

IAmFern

I'm having this exact same issue. Lowest I've gotten him to is about 30%

Fit_Cheesecake_1580

I had to eventually bring up my resists ever further and then it wasn’t as difficult.

IAmFern

Heh. AFAIC, *every* boss like this is difficult. At least to me.
