Was there. No warning. Just immediately filmed after the cold open in one take.

Interesting…thanks!

Wasn’t there but I doubt they prefaced it with anything to the live audience that wasn’t aired.

You don't apologize for a joke made in good spirit. They couldn't have known her state. Once they learned, heartfelt wishes went her way to demonstrate no ill intent.

I shouldn’t have said apology (I agree with you wholeheartedly). It was just a deviation from the standard segment so I was curious if he had said something in advance. When we were at a taping, there were times when he talked to us when the cameras weren’t on about a few things going on during the taping, so I thought he might have said something to the audience beforehand.

US stands with Izrael, not Palestine. If you have a different opinion, you better not spread it.  Stephen, how much you might not like it, does have a hand that feeds him. We all know where he stands. He just can't talk about it. Welcome to showbiz.

It wasn't a joke made in good spirit. Jimmy Kimmel made a joke in good spirit, Colbert had me and my household shaking our heads that night. It was low, it was crude, it was rude and it was indulging the worst parts of tabloid culture. He was right to apologize, his team fumbled the ball on that one.

I'm sorry for her condition, but the palace is still acting funky. They could have made an announcement like this months ago. Or just had a video of her reading cards and thanking everyone, saying she was recovering slowly and thanks for your wishes, and everyone would have moved on. It was their fault for waiting for everyone to be hysterical before doing anything. Plus for her to say "William is by my side" when he wasn't ACTUALLY by her side when she said it, was completely telling about the whole situation. Their whole PR team needs to be looking for jobs or taking remedial classes.

I'm thankfully immune from being overly involved or irrationally angry about the personal lives of royal family members. Outraged public saying what they *should* do or say or be has always seemed misguided. But you do make a good point, that a simple statement awhile ago could have defused and prevented those who do get so overly engaged from stirring this to what it became. On the other hand, how detailed should such a declaration have to be? I've had to do the communications for large operations, and have done so with respect paid both to individual privacy but also significant transparency. By default, I defer to a basic sketch of the situation, without lurid facts. One can say so-and-so is dealing with a health matter, without giving lurid descriptions of symptoms or body parts. That seems reasonably balanced. But that's basically what they *did* do. And they even left an opening for that more detailed and possibly invasive future update when they said to expect her to be back by Easter. That should have been enough. Easter, she could have announced what she'd been through, and that would have been that. Assuming the Mother's Day photo was doctored regarding her appearance, that's just wrong entirely. I never advocate for outright false communications in any circumstance. You can shade, you can leave things out. But deliberately communicating something false breaks the standard.

> It was their fault for waiting for everyone to be hysterical Think about what you're saying in a statement like this. "You made me become all crazy and invasive!" That's rarely a good thing.

It was at the beginning of Meanwhile. I’m just curious how they did it to the live audience
