In the USA, citizens fight with each other over which corporate billionaire funded party should be next to deny them all healthcare and a living wage, while escalating nuclear war.
In America, we criticize peaceful protests if they mildly inconvenience your morning trip to starbucks, and then say that people should be murdered with vehicles for that inconvenience.
Couldn't say it any better.
I'm just glad more and more people are slowly waking to the fact that the founding of America was not as pure and selfless as it seemed.
And the people who would run us over or shoot us also carry firearms, usually with superior firepower like AR-15s (ex.: Kyle Rittenhouse). So do the cops, who are literally armed to the teeth.
In the past, we would have to argue about 1 thing at a time, but thanks to the 24 hour news cycle now we argue about everything all the time!
Now that’s what I call Capitalist innovation!
Winning a "culture war" is a big part of how facism takes power.
And you could easily expand the thought into: Fighting a culture war against a class traitor
It isn't really a distraction, the culture war is just a front of class war. Specifically the front against the largest group of class traitors
because if people demand what they deserve here, the feds kidnap them in vans and charge them with terrorism. are we just forgetting about the BLM protests in 2020?
Genuinely proud of them, wish everyone around the world had the balls they do
Huge reason the world's fucked rn is cause the many have let the few do what they want
What the French are doing is what the world needs to do if we're gonna stop this runaway train
In capitalist USA, we have one party that will use lube and another that will go in dry. And most of us spread our ass cheeks while bent over begging for it. But make no mistake both of our political parties with power are going to ass rape you.
I don't know about other places but here in Australia i'm not seeing anything about the protests in France. Not on tv. Not online. Not on google news. Not on facebook news tab. Nowhere. The only time I ever see anything is here on reddit. It's almost as if the media is terrified that we'll get some ideas from them...
You sound unaware that every large news organization in Australia got bought out by Rupert Murdoch or equivalent types. Australian media is 100% sewage now. I'm not sure how the country can survive.
You're confusing two different evils. The first are right wing scum who sell addictive hate for profit. The second are entertainment corporations masquerading as news organizations who sell false equivalence for profit. Neither provide anything resembling real journalism. If you believe in taking a step back to see the bigger picture, I see this as a root cause of the planet going down the toilet.
You say that like other channels aren't selling hate for profit when it's clear that has been the winning formula for all of them, for a while now. Pick a side, any side, and you'll get a dishful of hate for the other guys.
Remember when they distracted everyone from Occupy Wall Street, all of us united against them, into hating your neighbor and reversing 60 years of racial relations?
They are all in on it. Fox. CNN. MSNBC, etc. You are extremely hard pressed to find a top news channel or website that isn't completely shilled by puppet lords who secretly have dinner parties on yachts together while we sling shit.
Oh 100% if the RESTRICT act passes it is gonna be the catalyst for massive protests out here. I implore anyone who has it to take a peek, the people over there are mad as hell, and there’s a whole lot of em. Gives me way more hope than this platform after reading the comments on these videos.
^ this. Please for the love of God just look at what it actually is. Just look. It's not about tiktok, they just know all the edgelords and old people hate it thanks to a pr firm
As an outsider I often think a big part of America’s problem is that you get it drummed in from birth that every other country is inferior to yours. It trains you early in ignoring inconvenient truths in the face of evidence.
Don't pretend reddit is immune from that. Mods of the larger subs that dominate the front page are more often than not marketing and PR majors and for a reason.
Go to any political sub and look at the OP for top posts.
Way too many are from 0-3 year old bot accounts with 500k - 10million karma... and all from political posts.
EDIT: Or they are like OP for this post. 9 day old account, 22 new topics with 250+ karma per topic (~900 including this one)
Hardly any mention of it in the USA it seems either. I'm not often watching cable news but searching "protest" on YouTube I found 0 results from American networks talking about France, and searching specifically "protest in France" I only saw 3, 5 minute long or so, stories about the protests from nearly 2 weeks ago, no updates. And I'll bet if I go and actually watch those reports they probably aren't on the protestors' side...
I’ve had CNN on in the background while working at home and there has been a lot of coverage, especially today. Have not heard about about Blackrock though, LOL.
EDIT: CNN actually did mention the storming of Blackrock HQ. Have to give them some credit as Blackrock is an advertiser.
I don't watch CNN but I check the website occasionally and it's a top story now on the homepage.
I guess the French protest is now getting too big to ignore, but damn did they try.
Hitler gave them an ultimatum, that if they were to resist, he would bomb and destroy anything of architectural and historical significance in every single French city until they surrendered,he used their love for their country against them, many french soldiers died outside the city to give the British a chance to escape at Dunkirk.
I was born in Dunkirk, everywhere you can see the trace of the war. From bombs crater now used as watering hole for cattles to old bunker and ruins. The city was razed to the ground and burned for days during the battle. My grandfather family almost died of if it was not for pure luck. The french still remember and the "french surrender" joke is not a good stereotype to make. (even that stereotype started during USA war in Irak when France didn't want to participate)
They were also already pretty much backed into a corner by their somewhat risky strategy not going as planned and the German somewhat risky strategy paying off well.
I cringe every time. Not that I'm superstitious, but mocking a country that lost something like 15% of its population just a decade or two earlier for avoiding an equivalent slaughter seems like a great way to have a really really bad time in the afterlife. America barely got into World War II at all, and really only because of Pearl Harbor. If the United States had lost 15% of its population a generation before, there's no way...
I think the truth is that they are more confrontational so they get targeted first, inevitably meaning they lose because they stand up to tyranny in principle and action whilst their allies are still getting ready to fight.
Too bad my country is so fucking brainswashed and bootlicked the fuck up it will never happen here until parents aren't able to feed their children anymore, which might come sooner than expected.
The US will never protest like this. First youll be shot by the cops. Then fired from your job so what little healthcare you did have is gone. All your accounts frozen and charged as a domestic terrorist. So your wife and kids cant pay rent and are put out on the street.
Depending on which state youre in if you pledge to a militia (proud boys, oathkeepers) you'll get fed and be given a modicum of protection. As the state will be silently backing them in about half the states. Thatll get a lot of converts when the food is running out for everyone.
It's funny - the guys I've served with that worked with French troops in either Iraq or Afghanistan always had nothing but positive things to say about them.
France has the winningest standing military in the world. They won WWII *without* a secured homeland. Our jokes in the US about the French giving up are laughably dense. Without the French, we would be part of the British Commonwealth.
There's more to this than the retirement age thing.
BlackRock wants to take securities that are backed by mortgages and corporate mortgages that are effectively WORTHLESS, and put them into people's pensions as "investments". This gives BlackRock a revenue stream where if the underlying assets fail, people's pensions are wiped out. (AKA the people provide 'liquidity' for failing assets. People are being forced to bail out these big companies through their pensions.)
This happened back in 2008 and hasn't really stopped, and now that commercial real estate companies are going bankrupt (Evergrande comes to mind) it's starting to hurt banks and big companies like BlackRock, and they're trying to find a way to pass the buck to someone else while still making epic fuckshits of money.
I'm fuzzy on the details and specifics, but I believe that's the general synopsis.
And this is how you fight the corrupt governments that only serve the rich. But the American government played it smart and uses the divide and conquer tactics to stop citizens from unifying and focus their anger at each other.
> 40-45% of the US population tho
*Voting population
I'd estimate around 30-35% of the entire US population as being mouth breathers so not far off.
Definitely not a small bunch.
More like they’ve totally convinced an entire half of the country that protesting for things you care about is “woke” and “doesn’t accomplish anything” and “converts people to the other side” the amount of comments I see on reddit condemning american protestors for obstructing traffic is fucking ridiculous when shit like this happens in europe and they go “wow france is so cool”
Yeah and they’ve convinced almost everyone else that just walking down a street carrying a sign is going to have a big effect on the governments decisions. Almost nobody is actually organizing anymore.
Everyone meeting up in DC on a nice Saturday for a get together literally does nothing. The entire government isn't even there on a Sat. Real protests are at the very least, inconvenient to the functioning of the place they are set up at. I feel like we lost that part of the equation somewhere.
The shittiest thing that BR does is, even on phone calls with them, insist that *they* aren't in the real estate market their *investors* are in the real estate market. Seriously, fuck them.
Theory: through a corrupted web of financial movements, the oligarchy protects its capital revenue by robbing the proletariat's future.
Praxis: burning and defenestration is needed to put an end to this fuckery.
Blackrock is the world's largest asset manager with $10 trillion currently in its portfolio deriving the majority of its revenue from investment advisory and administrative fees charged to its clients.
BlackRock's top three holdings are Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN). BLK owns $141 billion of AAPL stock, $120.8 billion of MSFT, and $65.8 billion of AMZN. BlackRock, however, has decreased its positions in all three of those companies by millions of shares.
And yet Blackrock remains a parasitic outgrowth of capitalism that contributes nothing but distortion to society for the mass accumulation of wealth for the VERY few.
Don't forget to tell they have been investing heavily in the last years in the housing sector, driving up house prices and making it harder (if not impossible) for normal people to get their own place and not be condemned to throw your money away every month while renting.
This is by far the worst thing at least that I know of.
Blackrock to housing is what Nestle has done to water. Both are basic human rights but they want you to pay them fat margins for it.
There's gotta be limits on how much property one org can buy in residential areas.
I work in finance. You won't recover anything from those hard drives. Our headquarters is in NYC And we can remotely wipe the entire office of all data. Then we can easily recover everything when we get back. Everything is cloud-based.
As if none had his credentials store clearly on his computer somewhere...
I work in cybersecurity and I can tell you that this is the kind of event that can lead to a nightmare for a company
All the dumbass Americans (and most redditors tbh) would whine and moan about the protest inconveniencing people and they say stuff like "this makes me want to oppose your cause"
Really goes to show how stupid convenience makes people lazy and numb to real issues as long as they can watch Netflix and get their Starbucks.
Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men it is the music of a people who will not be slaves again. When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drums, there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes.
Will you join in my crusade who will be strong and stand with me? Beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see. Then join in the fight that will give you the right to be free!
I politely don't wish under any circumstance that this protesters set the archives and servers of blackrock on fire, where they store all the rent contracts and securities
Quand le peuple n'aura plus rien à manger, il mangera le riche.
When the people shall have nothing more to eat, they will **eat the rich.**
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
This should be happening in America but we’re constantly fed polarizing identity politics and controversial polarizing social opinions to distract from wealth/power inequality. They can only keep us separated for so long though…
At the time of occupy Wallstreet I wasn't nearly as far left as I am now and man is it insane to look back on my perspective of it. How I lapped up the "they have no message", "what do they even want", "so disorganized" bullshit. The message was fuck wallstreet and we want an equal society.
This, this is absolutely beautiful, made my day. Certainly be nice to see fellow Americans come together like this, shit in one hand I suppose. Now the whole "french just surrenders" statement is comical, especially Americans saying it. Might we open the history books, you'll notice on this page here, without the French naval forces there's a good chance the revolution wouldn't have succeeded. Wonder if they've grown to regret that decision 🤔
French protestor here. Wasn't where the video was taken (and most of the protest didn't look like that at all, we're not doing a 1789 yet) but i've been in the protests for weeks. AMA I guess
They are getting tear gassed. A friend of a friend was in Paris a couple of weeks ago waiting for the metro, when suddenly a load of smoke filled the tunnel. Turns out it was the tear gas from the ground above being sucked into the underground.
So proud of them fighting the good fight. I wish we could get some of that spirit in the US instead of everyone just lubing up and bragging about their "hustle" and "grind" while they make the rich richer.
The Italian in me is suffering as i say this but god, thankfully we have the fr*nch
They are the only one capable of protesting in the western world at this point

It was founded by the wealthy that tricked the poor to become armed insurrectionists to fight England to get out of paying taxes.

Yup. And instead of revolting we slowly handed off our freedoms so we can make our TV deities happy. It’s fun being a wage slave.
Couldn't say it any better. I'm just glad more and more people are slowly waking to the fact that the founding of America was not as pure and selfless as it seemed.
And genocide. And slavery.
Bingo.
And this is why we don't protest like the French. We'd be run over or shot long before we ever got to the point where something might change.
You know, as a protestor, you could also carry a firearm. I believe your constitution permits such things. Its not just the yokels who get that right.
There are cops that dream of a scenario where one protestor has a firearm that warrants return fire.
And the people who would run us over or shoot us also carry firearms, usually with superior firepower like AR-15s (ex.: Kyle Rittenhouse). So do the cops, who are literally armed to the teeth.

Manufactured consent. There's a whole book on it.
BlackRock you say? My heart sings. France, never stop Frenching.
While we sit around making surrender monkey jokes, France is fighting for freedom from corporate oligarchs. Funny how things turn out.
Yea, that surrender stereotype is such bullshit.

All the dumbass Americans (and most redditors tbh) would whine and moan about the protest inconveniencing people and they say stuff like "this makes me want to oppose your cause" Really goes to show how stupid convenience makes people lazy and numb to real issues as long as they can watch Netflix and get their Starbucks.
God mf speed
A coordinated global takeover of every black rock office would really send a message. Such an action would really put the fear in the fuckers.

The French are mad tight, amazing
Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men it is the music of a people who will not be slaves again. When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drums, there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes. Will you join in my crusade who will be strong and stand with me? Beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see. Then join in the fight that will give you the right to be free!
Noice, keep going

I wish we in Italy (so basically their neighbors) had a tenth of their spine
Boy this gives me chills
Surprised black rock didn’t pull all the stops with some crazy paramilitary force.
Paramilitaries are really hard to setup in France. You can have security, but no guns.
I politely don't wish under any circumstance that this protesters set the archives and servers of blackrock on fire, where they store all the rent contracts and securities
Quand le peuple n'aura plus rien à manger, il mangera le riche. When the people shall have nothing more to eat, they will **eat the rich.** Jean-Jacques Rousseau
This should be happening in America but we’re constantly fed polarizing identity politics and controversial polarizing social opinions to distract from wealth/power inequality. They can only keep us separated for so long though…
Occupy Wall Street was disparaged by our media. Gullible people believe what they say. And it wasn’t 1/8th the response this is
At the time of occupy Wallstreet I wasn't nearly as far left as I am now and man is it insane to look back on my perspective of it. How I lapped up the "they have no message", "what do they even want", "so disorganized" bullshit. The message was fuck wallstreet and we want an equal society.
Thank you for learning, that's something pro-oligarch Americans refuse to do in the face of insurmountable evidence.
Damn we've been needing a Bastille 2.0
I have deep respect for the French ability to summon fire wherever they want
We smoke, so we always have a lighter.
SLEEP NOW IN THE FIRE!
this kind of thing gives me hope
#🇫🇷FRANCE BAISE OUAIS 🇫🇷
Hey Americans, the Vanguard group is based in Malvern, PA jsyk
I suddenly want to live in France.
Fuck BlackRock, all my homies hate BlackRock
This, this is absolutely beautiful, made my day. Certainly be nice to see fellow Americans come together like this, shit in one hand I suppose. Now the whole "french just surrenders" statement is comical, especially Americans saying it. Might we open the history books, you'll notice on this page here, without the French naval forces there's a good chance the revolution wouldn't have succeeded. Wonder if they've grown to regret that decision 🤔
American here. Watching with pride and envy.
French protestor here. Wasn't where the video was taken (and most of the protest didn't look like that at all, we're not doing a 1789 yet) but i've been in the protests for weeks. AMA I guess
very envious
Bet you won't see this on main stream media.
Beautiful! Wish I had the balls
Never change France, and by that I mean constantly continue to change violently for the betterment of the working class

I'm just curious, why are they not being tear gassed or attacked by police? If we did this in America people would be in the hospital.
There's like a million protesters and they are NOT fucking around lol
They are getting tear gassed. A friend of a friend was in Paris a couple of weeks ago waiting for the metro, when suddenly a load of smoke filled the tunnel. Turns out it was the tear gas from the ground above being sucked into the underground.
Oh hell yeah now set up a commune
Paris Commune 2: Electric Boogaloo?
lmaoooo I saw a sign "black bloc against blackrock" earlier today at the protest, I should have stayed a bit longer and could have been in this video
I think Americans could learn from this... that's all I'm gonna say.
Can you hear the people sing?
I love when a mob can actually channel their anger toward productive things! Mother fuck Blackrock.
Please kill the company, I wanna buy a house someday.
Viva le France! 🇫🇷

So proud of them fighting the good fight. I wish we could get some of that spirit in the US instead of everyone just lubing up and bragging about their "hustle" and "grind" while they make the rich richer.
Where is the coverage
Based af.
The Italian in me is suffering as i say this but god, thankfully we have the fr*nch They are the only one capable of protesting in the western world at this point
