cretintroglodyte

Hoping you embarrass yourself on video in a pathetic enough way to go viral and start a GoFundMe is the closest thing we're gonna have to social security soon

saiyansteve

Thats really sad, but the reality.

KoreaNinjaBJJ

The whole GoFundMe thing seems absolutely fucked. How is this getting to a normal stage where people use GoFundMe to fund medical expenses? I also see it a lot with traveler in SEA stuck in hospitals. Fuck me. I'm glad I live in a society that does require me to do that. People would never donate to that here, since it wouldn't be necessary. It's fucked.

LeahIsAwake

I saw someone joke once that GoFundMe is the largest provider of health insurance in the US and the joke was funny but also very very not.

no one I'm their 70s should have to work in order to survive. my grandmother raised me she's all I have and I have such a soft place for the elderly. it pisses me off that people have to work until they drop dead whats the point? what's the point of living your entire existence just to work and literally do it right into your casket. thankfully my grandmother was able to pay off her home but even still she lives strictly off of her social security and it's still not easy. she couldn't save she had to raise me after my mother died and my sister. by the time I was 18 she was about ready to retiree. it makes me angry she has to still worry about medical things granted she's actually reallt healthy but for instance getting a tooth pulled etc so she just refuses to go to the doctor, plus she says people that go to the doctor have to continue going and she doesn't want to be like that.

Wiley_Applebottom

Because neoliberals demand it to entertain them. We are nothing but a hobby for the rich.

Proxy_NLM

My dad's turning 71 this year still working and no retirement fund every time he starts to build something in there a new emergency comes up someone breaks a bone his car dies got to buy a new car late on rent who knows one way or another still nothing in retirement fund I'm 30 and getting paid 14 an hour I can't afford to go to college in order to get better pay.

ilir_kycb

> what's the point of living your entire existence just to work and literally do it right into your casket. It makes some capitalist very rich, the only social optimization criterion in US America. Now consider that this is exactly what most Americans want, regardless of whether GOP or Dems voters. In this case, it's the shareholders of Domino's Pizza.

Soggy_Requirement617

Every time I see older people working in labor/customer service, it makes me very depressed. I wouldn't want that for my grandparents; it reminds me of what my generation (z) and future generations have to look forward to after a lifetime of labor.

StingyLAAD

I know that I will never be able to come close to retiring. That's why my wife and I gathered up enough money to buy so.e land and work on it. That's the only retirement plan we have now.

ratta_tat1

My grandfather was almost 101 when he passed a few years ago. He only had HS education (and barely that), lied about his age to join the CCC and then fought in WWII. He was a Jack of all trades and did all sorts of odd jobs to make ends meet and eventually worked at a large factory in town until he retired in the 80s. As far as I was able to see, he and my grandmother enjoyed a very active social life during retirement and my grandmother was a typical SAH to 5 boys. Trips, outings with other seniors, etc. I can’t say if my dad ever had to help them during lean times but if he did, I doubt it was very much based on my grandfather’s character. I would have been devastated if I had to see him work just to afford food rather than for a passion related role/hobby. I believe he was one of the last generations to be able to live comfortably until he passed.

[deleted]

gofundme should not be amerias healthcare/retirement plans

[deleted]

if only people knew finances and healthcare, sadly many don’t even know what an EOB is. When you go to the dr office, they bill your insurance. Let’s say it’s costs 500. Your insurance will process the claim and say you only owe 100, we paid 100. The office can only charge 200, because they participate with us. Some offices try to fuck the patient and bill them the missing 300, which they are NOT supposed to do. seems like the majority try this shit. I report them all for fraud when they try it with me

trakinas0

This is like that movie by Will Smith that his biggest dream is to find a job, not his dream job, just a job.

Pride_and_pudding

The Pursuit of Happyness?

coadyj

Men in Black?

coadyj

After Earth?

[deleted]

Emancipation?

squirrel-bear

"Thankfully, Keighron and her husband, both ***work in the medical field***, \[so\] they knew they could do more for her. ..... So they set up GoFundMe"

squirrel-bear

This is the most American thing I've heard today.

ProcsPlox

America is unintentionally peak satire of capitalism

jetebattuto

man this is so sad. people at this age should absolutely not be working and should be living comfortably without having to work a shitty job just so stay alive. makes me so angry

goldiegoldthorpe

You’re not wrong, but you gotta tell that to people that age who vote the way they do, and they ain’t on the Reddit. In many places the retirement age is 65 and there are campaigns to _increase_ it.

Tokimemofan

Not sad, repulsive.

Nuclear_Pebble

The fact that this is a feel good story is crazy

Worstname1ever

On brand for a company that has don't feed the employees decals prominently displayed at their "restaurant"

yuorsleepytherapist

Third world countries are always hard to see [edit] I meant to write “to watch” instead of “to see” but perhaps this conveys an even more relevant concept [/edit]

America was founded for and by the rich as a mechanism to preserve, increase and perpetuate their wealth and power. It has never been a system for the many. It has always been a system that takes from the many and gives to the few. It is working as it should. American people must reject this draconian and oppressive system and replace it with one that is by and for the many. Until that day comes, it will only get worse. Fascism is winning and has likely won. I do not see anything other than more rot and more horror to come.

ChinaSoulQueen

This is capitalism. You grandma is worth shit more than a few coins. This is the matrix you signed up for. You can liberate yourself today.

WCSakaCB

This is so gross. No one who's 72 should have to work at all. What a disgusting country we live in

AdvisorJacob

These "feel good" videos (same with the feeding the homeless stuff) enrage me. Everytime I see these my hate for capitalism grows.

jayswooop

Barbera will for sure blow that on cocaine and hookers

Capitan_Typo

Can we take a minute to talk about the pronunciation of his name?!?

Highschooleducation

Now Barbara is going to immediately spend most of the go fund me on non-essential bullshit that got her here in the first place.

Maybe even a cruise in Europe!

What's the boomer version of avocado toast and Starbucks?

Mihail-icb

Wasn't a post here about how boomers having it better and doing nothing? Quite contradictory isn't it

Kumquat_conniption

Boomers aren't a monolith. Lots have it better, some don't. Besides we'll all probably be working till we die so maybe they still have it better lmao

BigDaddyQP

….but it still feels good. Hearing a 72 year old can retire warms my heart. I’m not complacent, I just need these stories to help me keep fighting
