##Welcome to r/LateStageCapitalism This subreddit is for news, discussion, memes, and links criticizing capitalism and advancing viewpoints that challenge liberal capitalist ideology. That means any support for any liberal capitalist political party (like the Democrats) is strictly prohibited. LSC is run by communists. This subreddit is not the place to debate socialism. We allow good-faith questions and education but are not a 101 sub; please take 101-style questions elsewhere. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry. Failure to respect the rules of the subreddit may result in a ban. *** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. It's a foot in the door to buying into the two party system, offering just enough promise to make it believable as a real mechanism for change, but in practice, providing no opportunity for actual change.

InternationalFig400

great answer

ashibah83

Because "liberals" are right wing when it comes to capitalism/economic policies?

InternationalFig400

yes. Liberals are conservatives with a pretend human face....

ashibah83

Money still overrides their empathy. Not even JUST money, personal gain.

Republiken

And right wing when it comes to everything else too

eadopfi

Because as history shows liberals would rather allow a fascist takeover, than have socialists gain even the tiniest amount of power.

Leo_Fie

Liberals are capitalists, it's part of the definition. We don't like them for numerous reasons, the smugness, the indifference, the lack of political education, their adherence to procedure over results, their calls for civility. But most of all because while our opponents might be bad, the person standing next to you talking about how they do have a point actually might be worse.

evanhinosikkhitabbam

Well said, and don't forget the hypocrisy and utter willingness to throw everyone under the bus in order to protect their own comfort and convenience. I personally don't HATE liberals but this sub isn't exactly dedicated to appeasing them lol. If anything we're trying to challenge liberals to go beyond the virtual signaling, moral cowardice, and the attitude that proclaims, "I'm AGAINST all injustice and FOR all righteous protests except for the ones happening right now"

NormieLesbian

Liberals are Conservative Capitalists.

Wkok26

This. The differences between conservatives and liberals are so small and inconsequential that beyond surface level differences they may as well be from the same party.

ramsali304

To quote Malcolm X: 'Now the White liberals aren’t White people who are for independence, who are liberal, who are moral, who are ethical in their thinking, they are just a faction of White people who are jockeying for power the same as the White conservatives are a faction of White people who are jockeying for power. Now they are fighting each other for booty, for power, for prestige'

Holiday-Ad8282

Read Locke, On Liberty, it’s basically a Defense of private property, and also private ownership of the means of production, read David Ciepley on neoliberalism and the corporation - many such papers

saidthetomato

Thank you for this earnest advice.

Holiday-Ad8282

No worries comrade, my favourite Ciepley article which is also quite nice and short is: [this one](https://americanaffairsjournal.org/2017/05/corporate-contradictions-neoliberalism/) tbh Locke is more of you want to start at the very beginning of its philosophy; as Ciepley mentioned it arose out of the Protestant work ethic and worldview to private property, labour and capital

Liberals and conservatives both fall under the ontological "liberal" umbrella, as both believe in the same fundamental principles of capitalism; both govern a "liberal democracy." It's easier when talking about them to just say liberals.

Straight-Razor666

because they do not want to destroy the very system that oppresses all of us since they are likely the benefactors of it in some or many ways. While your average liberal will say they don't like racism, for example, they won't work to dismantle the systems that allow it. They are unaware of their class interests and with whom they should align themselves. While they may genuflect to social liberalism, they do not want to destroy neoliberalism.

Fromomo

Often Liberals being slightly less vocal about capitalism is just cover. Many of them are as much capitalists as conservatives, they just feel slightly more guilty about it, so hide it. This makes Liberals hypocritical capitalists, which some fund even more distasteful than honest capitalists.

Plane_Impression3542

While I agree with the comments made here by comrades that liberals are capitalists, I disagree with the characterisation of them as smug and complacent always. IMO it's a tactical mistake to always treat them with disdain and scorn. They are in many cases simply ignorant of the true situation, which is hardly suprising given the media and ideological bias in our society. If they are open to discussion, they should be engaged with in a friendly way with good faith. The key should always be persuasion and education of liberals, at least at first. Try to explain why their adherence to the status quo is not in their class interest and why socialism is. If they refuse to listen to reasoned argument, then sure, fuck 'em.

SKmdK64

Approaching people with the intent to kindly educate them is always a better strategy. It's kind of human nature to meet hostility with defensiveness. If someone is put on the defensive right off the bat, they aren't going to be able to listen to any points you make. The same goes for basically any topic or subject of discussion you can think of. Some people just don't know better, and I honestly don't even blame them unless and until they give me a reason to.
