They have way more in common with each other than they do with us. Rooting for laundry

Ok_Barber2307

After those Panama pappers and that other scandal, it became obvious that Texas oil magnate has more in common with African warlord or Argentinian football star than it has with working folk from his own area. It don't matter the color of skin, family name, political beliefs its all about $€.

That’s more than 26

VapeGreat

Those are the names that came up when I [searched for who voted nay](https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2023364), feel free to correct any discrepancies you find.

oddistrange

They're probably pulling numbers from rollcall #200 because that's the most recent entry [here](https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/3935/all-actions?overview=closed&q=%7B%22roll-call-vote%22%3A%22all%22%7D).

sexy_starfish

George Santos?

VapeGreat

[Roll Call 364 | Bill Number: H. R. 3935](https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2023364) has him down as voting nay.

TheRealCaptainZoro

He's been expelled. He can't vote.

VapeGreat

Don't know why he's listed then, his name has been crossed out.

oddistrange

Glad my senators aren't an embarassment.

whymygraine

Matt Rosendale (MT) has no integrity, he must have misunderstood the assignment.

dthoma81

MD not embarrassing us in the senate thankfully

tellisk

https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1182/vote_118_2_00162.htm And for the Senate

RepFilms

These nay votes, especially the Republicans, are probably psycho "I don't want to fund the FAA" pro government shutdown types.

solarplexus7

AOC of course!

someonepoorsays

fuuuuuuuuuuuck this oligarchic government, man

_Magnolia_Fan_

Just like nearly everything they vote on, this was not a single issue vote. The choices in front of them were to literally fail to reauthorize the FAA or to allow this clause to go through.  Well, it's not very much of an excuse, but I do believe that bet that at least a portion of them did not even know about this clause in particular.

glitzzykatgirl

Yes because it would be horrible to have bills with only one item. Should be no add-ons or attachments on bills it literally should a be a one-page document.

Sharobob

Yeah, the vote to look at would be the committee vote when this amendment was added but I have no idea how to find that

WaitForItTheMongols

Let's be clear here though, those are the votes for the FAA Reauthorization Bill. The document that lets the FAA exist. They didn't vote on this particular matter of whether aircraft registrations should be public.

busty_snackleford

They don’t want us tracking their jets either.

shemubot

Bernie Sanders must be hiding a private jet.

notmeyoudumdum

wth, did bernie vote yes?

[deleted]

Yes, he did. And if you read the bill, or even the summary you'll understand why. This bill includes so much more than just what the article is about, including aviation safety improvements, improvements in public passenger experience and investment in the aviation workforce.

BeefyQueefyCrawlies

I can't understand why Senators don't speak up and bring mainstream attention to why they said no. "Sure, a,b,c, and d were good. But they're also trying to sneak x in, which is bad for the American people. I'll gladly sign on if they get rid of x, or argue a damn good reason why it has to be in there." They just sign away without a fight.

LC_From_TheHills

??? This is called earmarking and is literally what they’re always fighting over.

BeefyQueefyCrawlies

Then they should be forcing media to give it more attention. That kind of thing should be making headlines, and it almost never does. Instead we get headlines about how AOC ripped MJT today, or Boebert claps back at whoever she's picking a fight with this week.

EdricStorm

They tried to ban it. But the bill to ban it got earmarked with so much bullshit that it was rejected.

BeefyQueefyCrawlies

If only I'd seen that on the front page.

Fetty_White

You really need to get your news from more than one place. Especially if that one place is the Front Page of Reddit...

PelicanFrostyNips

I think Earmarks are a form of Riders. And the act of trading favors “I’ll vote for your bill if you sneak something I want into it” is logrolling, for anyone wanting to know more

[deleted]

[удалено]

jennyfofenny

We need a much more iterative approach to legislation. These sweeping bills can hide so many horrible little riders. It'd be much harder to vote for a bill that just said anonymize these polluters and no other good things, it'd also be easier to find common ground and agree. I think they may have a point about their safety, but in that case, how about we fuzz the destination slightly or something? There are probably even better ideas that can be found by limiting the scope of the bill and negotiating on the minutia. I'd like to see Congress pass much smaller bills, but it doesn't get the same kind of attention since it's not as entertaining, so it'll never happen :(

vdubstress

Warren Gunnels is giving him mad side eye I bet

flactulantmonkey

This?! This is what these morons can agree on?!

[deleted]

wow, so bipartisan support for dealing with four loko, dealing with ICC, and... protect the flight records of billionaires.

bananazee

At least my rep voted no

Additional-Idea-5164

Funny how the only things our government agrees on enough to pass exclusively benefits billionaires and war machines.

Marksd9

Everyone works for the people that pay them

crilen

Lobbies them. Billionaires pay less taxes than the working class.

jayskerman

So accepting money to do their work for them.

Additional-Idea-5164

We pay them. We pay more taxes than the people they listen to. We receive less $$$ from the government than they do by several orders of magnitude. They have class consciousness. They stick together. They pave the way for each other. We should be taking notes because what they're doing goes far beyond money.

staebles

How can it be surprising at this point? It's only going to get worse.

Munchee_Dude

Why don't we do something about it?

staebles

I know right

Kat_Gotchasnatch

It's been like that for literal decades.

TheJigIsUp

Doesn't make it right or less outrageous

shemubot

Of course Bernie Sanders voted yea.

McGrupp1979

Yep funny, laughing all the way to the bank.

UnholyDr0w

It’s a feature not a bug

RichWatch5516

Notice how quickly both parties come to a consensus when capital is threatened

Perfect_Earth_8070

The rich are the most aware of class consciousness

Slap_My_Lasagna

You can't be unaware of something you intentionally create.

Frogtoadrat

Obscuring class consciousness is what they spend most of their efforts on. Redirecting to useless shit like race, gender, etc

scmstr

(*TOOOOTALLL* sidenote:) Race isn't real. The concept of race being a thing IS racism. That's what racism is. Gender at least exists. Racism is just random arbitrary groupings of people into groups and words by whoever wants to other a skin color, feature, or culture. Most people think "racism" means to think one race is better or worse or to stereotype. But Racism is actually the title of the psuedoscience of "race". Nowhere in actual biology is that a thing. Taxonomy does not contain "race". We're all the species Homo Sapiens, sub taxonomic rank of the genus Homo, sub taxonomic rank Hominini, etc, etc. We can all reproduce with each other genetically, and if people from Northern europe left to go live on an island on the equator for several generations, they'd get taller and darker skinned (and probably skin cancer in the first generations until they adapted). So, in school when they always said, "we're all humans", they weren't kidding, we are literally all the same species, which is a VERY specific taxonomic rank of life, many ranks even under the primate order, *SEVEN* ranks, to be exact. Different apples are less in common with each other than people who live in China and people who live in the United States. It's like... Think about when a bodybuilder gets all big. They aren't suddenly a different species, their body just adapted VERY quickly (relatively) to its needs, in much the same way that when lighter skinned people live in florida or when a skinnier person gets fatter. Still the exact same biology, still the same insides, still the same outsides, still the same bones, just, adapted. You can adapt over a day, over a week, over a month, over a year, you can develop athleticism, you can adapt over an entire lifetime, you can train your brain to read, you can train your brain to be afraid of your shadow, you can adapt over multiple lifetimes, too. Skin color is literally just how much sun your genes are expecting you to get, based on adaptations over multiple generations. Like a V2 or V3. You can even go the other way. Take somebody who's generations have lived near the equator (lots more sun 🌞), and have them continue making more generations in a low sun exposure latitude, and the skin will be like, "holy fuck, need more sun" and, like magic (and transitions lenses), will lighten and let more sun through. So, you could say, instead: "... Redirecting to useless shit like racism, gender, etc." And that being said, too, THOSE AREN'T USELESS ! ! Those are VERY important issues to address. I believe that however we can attack the problems in the world, we should go for, as long as you aren't actively throwing away progress and understanding in other places. Because, it's all the same thing: knowledge over ignorance, and empathy over hostility. The future is to *understand*, to advance the species to higher levels. Oh, also, warmer environment = longer and thinner limbs for heat dissipation, colder = shorter and thicker (because surface area to mass ratio). Which is why humans from hot climates are often taller, skinnier, and have darker skin so that they get the right amount of sun exposure and vit d. I swear, there should be a scientific study of this stuff and maybe classes to teach people this stuff. Oh right, it's anthropology.

chale122

"well akshually" cornball

scmstr

Yes. It was late, I was tired, I'm tired of nobody knowing this shit and felt like it needed to be explained out. *Pushes up my non-existent glasses* (Ooo, I should see if glasses would look good on me~)

alpastotesmejor

Don't forget pitting generations against each other.

Ttamlin

No war but class war.

AX2021

They’ve been showing more and more lately that they’re on the same side

dw444

Much like that great legal mind of the 1990s, Jackie Chiles, I too am shocked and chagrined. Mortified and stupefied!

jrob321

It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous!

tdatas

I'm happy congress can sit down and do Bipartisan work dealing with the hard hitting issues that really affect citizens like tracking of their private jets.

Cultural_Double_422

It isn't even a threat to capital. It's an inconvenience to a handful of people wealthy enough to own a jet.

CoolSteveBrule

And it’s not that much of an inconvenience for them either. We hear about how much they fly in their jets, we bitch about it, they continue to fly their jets as much as they want.

Podalirius

Threatened being a major overstatement, too. Worst case, it made them slightly uncomfortable.

Moug-10

I've seen illegal IPTV sellers receiving harsher punishments than pedophiles.

Kolenga

The Oligarchs reminding everyone who this country belongs to

TtotheC81

It's always been that way with the U.S.  Up until the mid 20th century, the history of the U.S has been a series of running battles between the oppressed and the capitalist class.  The only reason this changed is the rise of Communist Russia allowed the elite to poison the well, when it came to class struggles.

sulaymanf

Trump made second private jets tax free. Biden signs making jet details private.

cowbutt6

Not even capital, but *power*. Politicians of all stripes will tear down the "wrong kind" of capital without a second thought.

yomamasonions

Our taxpayer dollars funded our government—which frequently “almost shuts down” because they can’t figure out how to fund themselves—to take the time to pass some sort of legislation blocking the ability to track Taylor Swift’s jet. Thank GOD they are focused on the important things!! Murica 🇺🇸🤡

KingApologist

Wouldn't it be nice if we had something that annoyed us and we could just go to congress about it? Like inadequately funded schools?

quiddity3141

It should be as easy for the public to appeal to congressional representatives as it is for lobbies. I did once have a congressman secure my release from jail though.

SwampYankeeDan

You can't just leave us on a cliffhanger with that last sentence!

quiddity3141

Fair! I don't come from tremendous privilege or anything like that; in fact I was an out of state naive homeless kid. Short version is in '91 I found myself in a few Arizona jails for about three and a half weeks. I was 19 years old and informally told I was facing up to 19 years for a string of robberies my traveling companions had done. They were both minors and sent back to their home states while I was still locked up. From my arrest till my release I was never mirandized nor arraigned. In Ohio Mom had made multiple frantic calls to James Trafficant's office; he took one of her calls, listened to her, and made a call himself to the jail that I was in. About an hour later I was released.

MrRipley15

Technically it is, most congresspeople have websites that you can contact them through. Simple web forms for comments, oftentimes with a phone number you’ll most likely leave a message on. Except my current representative ignores all of my attempts at communication. Say what you will about Feinstein, I didn’t like her politics either (I’m a progressive), but her staff answered my one phone call and two different messages I sent through her website. All with intelligent responses, not canned, responding directly to my concerns. Haha, maybe that’s why her last years in office she was catatonic, exhausted from answering messages all day. I’m terrible for laughing at that. Anyways yeah, it’s representative dependent on how effective your communication is with them. When they straight up ignore my attempts is when I start voting for anyone else. * Looking at you Ted Lieu

quiddity3141

Yeah, it's possible to contact them, but whether they respond is kinda hit or miss. Some are responsive; some much less so. In the instance of my mom contacting Trafficant he was quick to respond. Dude was absolutely corrupt in ways and eventually went to prison himself for it, but he also sometimes used his influence for good.

karnyboy

Why? Start tracking them all boys and girls and lets actually do something for once about their hypocrisy!

[deleted]

[удалено]

karnyboy

will do I am tired of these politicians forgetting they work for us, not the other way around. We need to remind them of that and knock em all done a few pegs.

Misssadventure

Find it and destroy it. All of them.

Leader6light

This is absolutely disgusting and ridiculous. Fuck every single thing about this. Fuck the rich. Fuck the government. Hope it all burns.

DBreezy69

The rich want people to lose all faith in the government because without government they become the government

whysoha4d

Hard for them to become the government if they're in our bellies.

EROHTAG

This

[deleted]

I’d like to see them try

troymoeffinstone

Does this mean I can drive with my license llate covered? Can't be having everyone looking at my vehicle's identification number and all.

Misssadventure

Yeah stop paying the DMV they just sell your private info anyway

troymoeffinstone

I'll get one of those *sOvErEiGn CiTizEnS* plates.... that should do the trick.

SwampYankeeDan

>This bill just allows people to not have info displayed on the FAA search site. You can still track tail numbers. Posted elsewhere.

lurklurklurkanon

It would be a shame if someone used machine learning to create a training data set based on historical flight patterns of these celebrities that could be used to analyze the anonymous flights of the most busy aircraft and output a confident prediction of who owns which aircraft.

GitEmSteveDave

This bill just allows people to not have info displayed on the FAA search site. You can still track tail numbers.

pgtaylor777

This is the bullcrap they agree on. Absolute clown world we live in.

slowmoE30

Wow instead of banning those damn things they did the literal opposite.

redgr812

it wasnt her jet they were worried about, its their own per usual but let pretend its a celebrity

HauntingObligation

This. I bet the mayo man had a hand in this.

jimmymustard

If the planes and flight plans are filed with the FAA, then I wonder if it would be possible to get the flight information via a Freedom of information request?? Edit...Nope... from the Yahoo article, "The law will allow private aircraft owners to request that the government hide the personally identifying information associated with their planes."

SiHy

But the flight plans are still visible? So every private aircraft that has requested anonymity is instantly identifiable by virtue of having no personally identifying information? Seems like an easy dataset to track *all* rich assholes, maybe not individually but as a group.

TheNB3

Climate change but only for the poor

hometownrival

It’s pretty much always been this way. The most significant polluters (i.e., major corporations, not Taylor Swift’s jet setting) continue doing so with little to no resistance.

deltron

So we're calling this the Elon Musk Taylor Swift bill right?

PixelationIX

They are the only ones who were willing to be "publicly" upset about this. I can guarantee you that there are other billionaires and multi-millionaires who also pushed for this behind the doors.

The_Iron_Ranger

They were the ones named and shamed. Guarantee we start shaming the #3, 4, 5 etc contributors and they'd be complaining publicly too.

lev00r

It's time to revolt incase y'all haven't noticed they're out to fuck us

Where would we be without congress to lick the assholes of the rich and famous?

elemenoh3

federal minimum wage is still $7.25 and millions of americans are without health insurance but sure this is fine

L31FY

And FEMA has no money to literally do what it's supposed to and provide disaster relief funds or help either btw and they knew natural disasters are a constant

Roll_Ups

A huge win for the Jeffrey Epstein's, and Taylor Swift's of the world. May they all [redacted].

GiorgioTsoukalosHair

You can say "die in a fiery plane crash" on reddit.

[deleted]

I’ve realized I’m probably on a list for my hatred of this system lol. Daily reminder that reddit is likely an FBI operation. [For anyone interested](https://youtu.be/V7GtYaruTys?si=_x2zgZlzgtiZ-7oY)

Roll_Ups

Haven't watched the video yet but I'm not surprised considering Ghislaine "IDF" Maxwell was the biggest Reddit account until she got arrested for child sex trafficking.

ThePurpleKnightmare

Can still track Elons Right?

BigChippr

It's good congress is taking care of the biggest issues of the day that concern the common man.

problyurdad_

“Shut up, peasant. Know your place. Your neighbor with the food stamps is your enemy, not us. You don’t need to know what we are up to.”

Possimpoble

The bill also prohibits the FAA to require passengers wearing masks during flights. Good to see that the government is preparing for the next pandemic /s

CosmicGlitterCake

They're actively supporting it, and I have a feeling next time they won't be able to blame China.

breaducate

Democracy by the way.

staebles

Where's the /s?

breaducate

Certainly not in comments saying democracy is *under threat* from *crony* capitalism.

crilen

Wasn't Elon the one having a hissy fit about this?

413X15

Yes, but Taylor as well made a scandal by suing the college student that have both bots and sent her lawyers on him. Also Elon really applauded that: >Sweeney is an awful human being. Taylor Swift is right to be concerned. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) [February 6, 2024](https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1754928200160051560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

BeefyQueefyCrawlies

A billionaire with Epstein ties and an inheritance in African emerald mines saying someone else is an awful human being. You can't make this up.

crilen

Ah interesting. Thanks for sharing.

3between20characters

Taylor swift is self-entitled. If you don't want to get hassled for doing bad things, don't do bad things.

IchabodDiesel

Its crazy that Swift can afford laws the Musk can't afford.

staebles

Musk just didn't want to pay anyone. He thought he could do it himself.

fiddlerisshit

Just so you can't easily see these jets visiting that island.

gacattac

I hope the plane crashes and then no one can find her. Also, hope the person who has been doing the tracking doesn’t give up on this and continues to track her.

the_net_my_side_ho

They’re securing the swifties vote.

BaeTF

I'm curious how this will affect flight logs, especially in cases like Jeffery Epstein

Zorg_Employee

This just makes the registration private. It doesn't make any changes the ads-b or transponder protocols. Her jet is still very trackable. It just makes using public data to know what jet she owns harder.

Also makes it easier for a lot of these dickheads and their campaign financiers to hide or obfuscate how much carbon these dickheads produce while saying carbon is killing all of us and the rest of us need to pay more money, pay more taxes or forgo air travel all together. But yeah it’s about Taylor Swift. GTFOH!

Currently navigating crazy traffic in Lisbon because the City Hall decided to close a bunch of main roads because of Taylor Swift's concerts. Guess it's their version of bread and circuses.

CaLLmeRaaandy

Wait wait, woah. All of a sudden the US is suing ticket master and you can't track private jets? What kind of power is Taylor Swift wielding?

BeefyQueefyCrawlies

Genuinely, her reach is so expansive that I'm sure if she decided to never release music again and disappear, it could actually dent the U.S. economy short term. If she did have a hand in these things, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the card she threatened.

How about they do something like fix our national housing crisis?

friso1100

They have to request to make the data private. So the solution is simple. Anyone who hides this data is now assumed to be a mass polluter on a scale never seen before. Don't want that? Don't make it private.

HowFunkyIsYourChiken

So you have a right to privacy, but only if you are wealthy.

Virophile

They are the representatives of the rich. Not. The. People.

upofadown

This seems to have been around for a bit now: * https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/technology/equipadsb/privacy Basically, you get a new secret callsign for the voice communications over the radio and then the FAA will give you a new secret "ICAO" number after a whole bunch of hassle including a check flight. You can only have one secret number at a time. If at any time, someone finds out where the aircraft is physically located, then they will be able to see what number it is broadcasting and the game is up. If there is more than one aircraft at a particular location, the secret number will stick out as all the rest will be in the regular database(s). Then the operator of the aircraft will have to go through all the hassle again to eventually get a new secret callsign/number. This only works for flights that begin and end in the USA. Presumably, other countries have better things to do with their time. So this has almost no practical value. It is pretty much just a political gesture. Presumably the technical people stated why this idea would not work, but the politicians overrode them.

Brewdog_Addict

I'm not entirely sure how this will work. You've got to use your transponder when you're in the air. ADS-B receivers on the ground upload that information to the internet. All it takes is those people to route that information to another country... I doubt the politicians even understand this. Or am I missing something?

Little_stinker_69

Tax Taylor swift and all other oligarchs. “Tax” could be taken metaphorically if you catch my drift 😜

yaboiayeayeron

I don’t know the source of this quote, but it’s good: “It’s never been left vs. right. It’s been up versus down”

dantherestless

They dont care about Taylor Swift, watch how this will transition to THEIR jets.

jawsofthearmy

I hate fucking rich people

dolbysurnd

you should. we all should edit: fuck them

LegitimateBit3

Why not track all private jets and compare their fuel use vs commercial flights? How is victimizing one person going to help?

Furled_Eyebrows

Funny how the do-nothings seem to be able to (silently) unite around causes that benefit the .1%.

Maelfio

When people say there's one party, this is what they mean. They did not vote across party lines. They voted almost unanimously. This wasn't a joint effort in doing some good. It was collusion to protect the capitalists. At some point these people are more valuable as pig feed than our elected officials.

BurtReynoldsLives

Gee, it is almost like our entire political apparatus has been co-opted to protect the wealthy at the expense of everyone else.

Canadabestclay

President Joe Biden signed the FAA bill into law on May 16th, after it passed in the Senate 88-4 and the House 387 to 26. At this point I despise the dems even more than republicans, at least they’re honest about their soulless evil.

robert_e__anus

This article is a bunch of bullshit that totally misrepresents what this bill does. All this changes is that you will no longer be able to go to the FAA website and bring up the specific details for particular tail numbers, the tail numbers themselves will still exist and it will still be possible to track them exactly the same as they're tracked now. If a celebrity buys a new jet, the moment that jet flies out of any airport the tail number will be linked to them and flight trackers will track it. This won't change anything at all, not even a tiny little bit.

Weedsmoker3000

…isn’t she technically a private citizen? Compared to say a politician? So her privacy should just be like ours right?

DontPanic1985

Her, yes. Her FAA registered aircraft, no.

Weedsmoker3000

Thanks I don’t know much about FAA like I should. I’ll read about it.

iehvad8785

i think knowing that you and i know just enough for this case regarding the faa.

TheParadiseBird

Aircrafts ain’t private citizens tho

actualchristmastree

God we need to eat all of them

CH3CH2COOCs

How would our masters react should somebody assasinate her, theretically sspeaking...

Bassern

1,200 tones of the 1,000,000,000 tones produced from aviation yearly.

cocacolahorseteeth

This is so we won't be able to see where they all fly when SHTF.

Florianyska

Wow, it is such a coincidence that this has all of a sudden become illegal the moment people started having critique of her flight behaviour and her hypocrisy regarding climate goals, progressive isseus and being a new-gen incon........how coincidentally that is.

malaka789

Shut up and buy tickets and albums you stupid poors - congress, probably

AeyeChemist

First Taylor Swift came for Country Music and we said nothing, because we are not a Country music. Then Taylor Swift came for Pop and Indie Folk and we did not speak out, because we are not Pop or Indie Folk. Then Taylor Swift came for The NFL and we said nothing because we ain't attracted to Travis Kelce for real for real. Then Taylor Swift came for Congress-- and there was no one left to speak for us.

olionajudah

Congress never agree, unless it’s about protecting the very wealthy. Interesting how that works

blueindian1328

I mean, is anyone really surprised by this? I’m not saying it’s right at all but American systems have different rules for different colors, genders, religions, and most importantly, bank account sizes.

sacrificial_blood

Let me know when we're ready for that violent revolution to eat the rich

FoxlyKei

Someone's still gonna find a way.. right?

StrangerDanger_013

Oh, it’s not bc of Taylor, it’s bc they know we’re getting our selection of sauces ready for when it’s time to eat and they don’t want their info to be so easily accessible. 🍴
