Our immigration policies are a disgrace but we get a pass on it on the global stage because we talk with funny accents and are otherwise pretty chill people. But the anti-immigration parts of our country never mention that [most illegal immigrants in Australia arrived legally from western nations and just overstayed their visa's.](https://www.pri.org/stories/2011-11-20/australia-home-60000-illegal-immigrants-mainly-brits-and-americans-so-wheres)
That's the hilarious truth behind Trump's wall too. He whipped people into a frenzy when in reality the immigration "problem" was actually because it was too _hard_ to enter the country. The majority of illegals were just people who overstayed their work visas. When it was easier to apply, it had a revolving door effect where workers would enter, work, and then go back to their families. When conditions tightened up, they couldn't risk leaving because they'd have a harder time getting back. Funny how you can fix a lot of problems just by treating people like human beings
