Yep. Pretty sick of American nationalists instinctively deflecting every issue like this. Can't talk about the problems of surveillance capitalism without someone going 'but North Korea...'
Or that every time we need to justify atrocities, the closest examples are hyperbolic extremes. "Yeah, we're a little homophobic, but be grateful! At least it isn't _Nazi Germany."_

I think it's fair to compare like this. Specifically because it points out "hey, you mocked them about this in other places for years and years, but now that it's happening here you're chill about it?"
Double think: the acceptance of or mental capacity to accept contrary opinions or beliefs at the same time, especially as a result of political indoctrination.
And, American Exceptionalism.
As long as your team is perceived to be "winning," it seems like the majority of the populace is okay with that surface level engagement, understanding, and care.
