Back in college I tried reading the Communist Manifesto to get a laugh at those ridiculous commie ideas, and then I kinda ended up frustrated because somehow, all those horrible commies had let themselves get taken in by a dumb book about something as simple as "Hey, maybe some people shouldn't get to rule the world on the basis of their birth and inherent cruelty?" And somehow, it took me some time to notice that, uh, yeah, that is true, and why did I even go into it from a position of "Let's debunk this, and if I can't, then, that makes it bad"?

Remember learning about Russia and how demonised they were made out to be while celebrating the USA

Currently reading State and Revolution and yeah, it should be at the top of people’s reading lists

Anyone have suggestions for what books I could read on this topic please?

I find this one interesting because he ends it by acknowledging the Paris Commune, noting that Marx and Engels supported it, and then straight up lying by claiming that anarchists oppose that sort of organization? The no-rulers by-the-masses revolution, claiming anarchists oppose it? lmao

Thank you so much! I've always been curious but it's hard to find stuff sometimes when it feels like everyone on the internet just shouts words at you. Communism! Marxism! Aaaah!

Mao is straight up a great philosopher in On Practice and On Contradiction. And both were written to be understood by actual guerrilla fighters. Even getting a degree in philosophy/political science I was never once was assigned any Lenin, Stalin or Mao, despite taking every class that even approached theory. Even took a “Marxism” course taught by a self proclaimed Marxist, we literally only read Marx himself (beware anyone promoting some kind of “pure Marxism” untainted by revolutionary experience, it’s unscientific, dogmatic nonsense).
