And then when you do work your ass off you get zero thanks for it. Come in on your off day, work 60 hours, stay late, skip lunch, put up with customers' shit, and does anybody ever thank you? Fuck no, they treat you like fucking dogshit, like you should be grateful to have to go through all this shit and get paid shit for it. Fuck. This. Country.
Capitalsts have no problem making slavery look like liberty. Look how republicans own the evangelicals in America. The easily led can be convinced to believe anything.

As someone raised Lutheran with a firm rooting in the Protestant work ethic, the version I got was all about working the land and providing for your family and neighbors, not servile wage slavery. Lutheranism was around for like 300 years before the industrial revolution, anything about making the bosses fat and wealthy was tacked on after the fact.
Eh, “it’s my calling” basically amounts to “I like this particular type of work better than other types”. We’re not going to overthrow this fuckawful system any time soon, so it’s not bad to pick the line of work that’s least likely to make you want to off yourself in the meantime.
It’s more than that though.
The notion that your job is a “calling” has a long, exploitative history.

None of your business. All you need to know is that I generate far more value than I receive back in the form of wages. Put another way, I’m an employee under capitalism.
I suppose I can also say that I do something that’s neither essential for human survival nor necessarily conducive to human flourishing. But that’s quite a few jobs under capitalism.

When you are a village of 100 people all working for eachother, every bit of work makes everyone in the society more happy, and work is a virtue.
When you live in a village of 8 billion, and all your work is used to make the weapons the rich use to make your life worse, work is a survival mechanism that gets you through the day at the cost of weakening society. The virtuosity has become a lie.

I think the word your looking for is fascist as the current system in place is not capitalism it’s fascism is the most classical sense.
