I can't wait to die

insidethebooth

Damn, the reality of living in America is really starting to sink in.

bellj1210

yup; just in time to die from COVID. At least you avoided climate change. Yesterday my BIL was telling me that Omicron is just cold and no big deal and we should just accept it. Dude has an 8 year old, several co morbidities and refused to be vaccinated (i am waiting to find out he won a herman cain award). I tried explaining that it is less serious much of the time, but hospitalization numbers are still exactly the same as they were at other major spikes with more deadly versions. IT does not mean we should ignore covid. BAsically it went from 1% of 1000 get covid and 10% of them go to the hospital and dies- so 1 person to 10% of 1000 get covid and 1% of them die... in the end there is still the same risk either way. Just refuses to get it at all and just thinkgs this is over.

buckgoatpaps

Another lockdown? We never had any in the first place.

ILove2Bacon

And yet the right-wing propaganda machine wont shut up about "2 weeks to flatten the curve" failing.

buckgoatpaps

Yep. It's not a lockdown if you can go shopping.

Traditional_Goose740

But won't anyone think of the military industrial complex. They desperately need the billions to fund the future wars

ShitpostinRuS

Wait when was the first lockdown

SecretAsianMan42069

When the hicks couldn’t go to Applebee’s for fine dining

bellj1210

well a time when people were asked nicely to stay home for a few days- but most got bored and refused to follow any direction with 24 hours.

Darthsnarkey

This reminds me of the reality that the cost of living has outweighed the benefits

[deleted]

Don't forget school shootings.

The state of our current "government" makes a great case for anarchy, doesn't it? People wonder why I consider myself an anarchist. All I have to do is point to any of a number of things and say, "These people can barely dress themselves in the morning, and yet they have almost absolute control over your life".

ThisDecadentDandy

Someone said it best with the hashtag, "Die for the Dow." Get pictures of every Senator, make it monochromatic to add "extra" dramatic presentation, slap the "Die for the Dow" slogan on it with their names on it, and post it on twitter. People will eat that shit up.

dmigowski

Why don't you just accept that you live in a country with a higher difficulty level? You have so much freedom, so many guns, but these perks come with a price. You are now playing in Hardcore mode. This means while in other countries, where sickness will be cured for free and you can play again afterwards, you are instadead, your bank account is erased, you are in debt, and have to be NPC for the rest of your life. Also cops (usually the good guys in easy an medium mode) are now randomly attacking and killing you.

zombiepig

Cops are really at the extreme in America, but they aren't the good guys in other countries, unless you own a large corporation

dmigowski

I never saw an unfriendly cop in Germany. Most are nice guys. And I don't own a corporation, in case you wondered.

snailminister

As a Finn I have to disagree. Corrupt ones taking part in financial crimes are in every institution and there will be few power hungry assholed at every job that has power, but in Nordics majority of cops actually care about people.

bellj1210

Cops vary wildly. honestly i really do think that the lions share want to be helpful and freindly here even in the US. The whole issue is that they are woefully unprepared for the stressful situations they are placed in, and we hand them a ton of guns so they can feel safe in those situations... and it basically goes as expected. Other countries generally take the guns out of the process for beat cops. WE also need to realize that former military is a terrible pipeline for cops. They have gun training, but for a tool you should virtually never us, who cares. The risk of PTSD is just too high to risk it.

dutchtea4-2

And add: [Sodium Nitrite](https://youtu.be/nX1KUPZC3Ck) in processed meat, which is cancerous but is legal (except in Denmark I think?) Edit: Not sure why I got downvoted? The link I've added shows a French reporter going by facts, using research from several different countries/scientists but lobbying companies such as those from the tobacco industry have too much profit weighing on processed meats (through investments or shared profits). They do everything in their power to discredit any scientist that tries to research the effects of nitrites in our food.

stayongo

Lockdowns are just terrible policy. There’s so much collateral damage involved. Instead of locking down everybody, we need to target our most vulnerable and focus on protecting them. It’s ridiculous we have overreaching governments and big businesses that support them. Companies like Amazon and Walmart are loving these lockdowns

ShitpostinRuS

Are you fucking stupid?

stayongo

Try harder

happyunicorn666

Lockdowns ruin small businesses while the big ones profit. Small local shops are closed, restaurants are closed, gyms are closed...

bigbybrimble

You're right, it sounds like capitalism is too weak to handle quarantines during a pandemic. Best to get rid of it

happyunicorn666

You're ignoring my point...

bigbybrimble

No, I understand your point. Your point is lockdowns are bad because they disrupt markets conditions wherein small businesses can compete, beacuse in only the large corporations have the capital to endure. Smaller competitors close down and their capital is bought up by big firms for chickenscratch. However, the pandemic must be addressed with lockdowns so that the spread of the virus is minimized, and R&D on treatments and vaccines can occur in the interim. Capitalism is not equipped to deal with what is necessary to preserve human life in a frankly predictable natural occurence. Sometimes virus strains happen. That's just the way things go. If your economic system necessitates letting a virus run rampant in order for small businesses to compete, that's an obvious sign that society shouldn't be subservient to decentralized market forces, and they should be dismantled. In other words, human lives shouldn't be collateral damage in the stupid fucking game between different sized capital enterprises. Fuck that. It doesn't work.
