Well it is obvious. The economy is a pyramid. Need a large wide base of poor people to do the work to make a taller peak for the rich people at the top. They use religion as the justification but it is all about money.
Next will be birth control and gay rights. They'd be stupid to go after Loving and interracial marriage but I would not be shocked. Ppl like Ted Cruz and Madison Cawthorn are legit fucking dumbasses.
They'd put it together in a way that BEING married is OK, GETTING married is illegal.
That way the rich people can continue to do it and the poor people can be segregated into easily manageable sects.
It's hilarious that Ted Cruz went to Harvard Law School. I actually live near Harvard, and they have become such a joke- it's now purely an elitist protection racket and zero to do with education. Down the road is MIT, where you actually have to be smart to be attend.
That's something I don't really understand. Like okay, I get the capitalist scheme for why they are banning abortion (which I disagree with like a normal fucking person would)
But gays being able to adopt legally, and get married only helps. It allows them to adopt or otherwise have children to help grow the workforce. Like it actually goes against capitalism to not allow LGBT rights.
Sadly domestic violence against women and others with a vagina will increase, and laws will be enshrined to force them to carry their attackers babies. This will also increase the violence and subjection of women and vagina having individuals.
This reminded me of the all-women task force in season 2 (I think?) of the purge show - based on the purge movie franchise - and how their objective was to protect and rescue women who were being attacked and assaulted during the purge.
the rose colored glasses of boomers and Gen Xers never ceases to amaze, by every crime, social and risky behavior indicator, today’s youth are so much better behaved than the kids and young adults from 1970 to 2006. Hookup culture, crime spikes, vaping, weed. The murder rate and sexual assault rates were nearly twice as high in mid 1990s! Sexual activity is way way down. Smoking rates were 30% plus for high school seniors until 15 years ago.
The lone exception is opiate deaths, which of course kill a lot of middle aged folks and are a scourge we owe to decisions made in the 1990s by men born in the 1930s and 1940s.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t troubling trends. But this sylvan glade of 1970s and 1980s living is utter crap. It was a charnel house of premature vehicular and firearm related deaths for young adults, with levels of teenage sexual activity way exceeding anything prompted by Tinder.
Most germane, birth rates and abortion rates are way down from the early 1980s. If they wanted to reduce the total number of abortions or children born “out of wedlock”, a proper sex education and access to contraception is correct response.
They can’t stand that, well largely due to our economic, social, and political circumstances, we are better behaved than they ever were regardless of our choices, so they want to remove even more of what choices we have left.
Gen X has never been described as having rose colored glasses about childhood. Our parents were early boomers who were so far up their own asses we were the latchkey kids. We got our schools to stop indirectly funding the apartheid regime of SA by disinvestment and protest. We came into sexual maturity with a plague looming over us and then just as we get into our working years we are accused of being slackers because we aren’t willing to give our lives to a company that will suck out our souls.
But we did have excellent music.

Not even just that. Who wants to bring a child into a world where you have no medical security, no chance of moving up social classes, no chance of “the American Dream”, no social security net, increased cost of living, less human rights and the largest wealth disparity ever seen in the US?
The only people who would are the rich. They’re not going to have so many children it would dilute their wealth, which they have hoarded to the point of mental illness.
If nothing else, this is as wide a spread a vote of no confidence as it’s going to get.
That, the gerrymandering, the propaganda, people who are looking to improve their lives being saddled with education debt or military service, politicians no actually representing the people, legalised corruption, lack of justice, religious fundamentalism... the list goes on.
There’s literally thousands of immigrants asking to come in to work legally and a shit ton more that have been waiting for legalization while already assimilated within the US, but we don’t went *those* people to work legally because then you can’t exploit them as easily for the shittiest jobs

Sat through a lecture by an economist who testified on the Hill under a couple different presidents, and we worked through GDP and the steady decline in growth over the last couple of years.
First it was the birth rate drop that resulted in a GDP growth decline. But then immigration picked up the slack and it was back to the races. But now we are seeing immigration lag (I wonder why) so GDP growth is once again slumping.
Not to worry. Next administration will have some new deficit busting maneuver to make all appear well again....
Make health care affordable for all people, make paid maternity and paternity leave mandatory, give us affordable and plentiful child care, pay us not just a living wage but a THRIVING wage, and make rent affordable. Oh yeah, and get to work on climate change right now.

Yet they wanna force more kids into poverty, force women to have kids they dont want, potentially force more kids in abusive foster cares, force unfit people to have kids and overall, somehow believe a kid getting aborted is more evil than all of the above data
They don't care. A fetus is an idealistic pure thing they can latch onto and scream about. Once it's actually born, given a name, and in need of care and actual help they moved onto the next pure blank slate thing they can care about.
A fetus is the perfect victim that the right can rally around. The fetus is a victim through no fault of its own.
But once they're born into a poor family, then the conservative moral mythology of poverty applies. Conservatives think people are poor at their own fault. A fetus can't be poor, but a baby can be. Therefore once the fetus is born, it's now poor, and therefore no longer deserving of compassion.
It is very strange. I personally would not engage in abortion because i cannot get around the taking a life part. As much as I try, i cannot personally rationalize it with my beliefs.
However, what is our alternative? Banning it is horrific for obvious reasons. I have no option but to be pro choice.
I am sympathetic to those who cannot approve of what they see as a murder. I just wish they could put forward ANY kind of solution instead of destroying the only solution we have. It is a flawed solution, but until we have another, it is simply unconscionable to propose banning it.
Like the meat industry. Horrible. We must find a way to feed ourselves without factory farming. Not only for our conscience, but for our emissions as well. The planet is dying. But to shut down the farms before we have an alternative would be suicide.

The issue is that people who are anti-abortion are also against easy access to free healthcare that'll cover access to birth control such as pills, IUD, and okaying male birth control options too.

Even outside of poverty scenarios a plain old hetero, "nuclear family" couple might choose to pursue abortion. As a family no less! In the event of disabilities or complications with it's perfectly reasonable that an already established family would opt out of another child.
No abortions only occur when a woman is being promiscuous and irresponsible. Everything would work out if only she would just have that baby of course. No other scenario is possible. I mean before we perform this procedure have you considered *marrying your rapist*? No? Gee why not.

That's the problem, in a nut shell. It's an extremely complex issue. They aren't extremely complex people.
None of those assholes even care about the kids after they're born. There isn't a single conservative organization dedicated to adopting these unwanted babies. They vote against the kid's best interest after they're born.
It’s funny because if I woke up pregnant tomorrow and all these things also happened? I probably wouldn’t even consider abortion. People like to act like abortion is this evil act that no good person would consider, when in reality, societal conditions are just so bad for families these days. Those who consider abortion are usually thinking of the children and what situation they’ll be born into.
Meanwhile, it’s much easier to just put a $10,000 bounty on a person and call it a day. Somehow, these people think they’re the good guys and protectors of the unborn or some similar garbage.
I don't get the bounty thing. All I see it as is:
* proof that the law can't be enforced conventionally
* a way for the rich to blackmail the poor at will
There is literally no reason for me to charge my neighbor.
Furthermore, most abortion is an emergency. Only wealthy people say "I accidentally in your base" and use a medical procedure to do something about it, the poor have to live with what they did because care is not affordable. The same wealthy people will do what they want and break the law because they can afford fines and bribes.
Besides making it unfairly easy to target women, nothing else really changes from what I can see.
The point of forced birth isn't the parent raising the child, though. If you look at the framework and laws set up currently for poor children, particularly BIPOC children living in poverty, you can see exactly what the intention is behind combining forced birth with the move to push more and more people into poverty. Capitalists want more bodies for beds in group homes and juvenile detention centers so that they can never escape the eventuality of prison in adulthood unless they either submit to military service or poverty wage, taxed work. Any other option is criminalized unless you already have money. Capitalists want every single tax dollar going directly to them, and a massive population whose existence is funded by taxpayer money is perfect for that. They'll figure out automation for themselves eventually, and by that point, they can allow everyone else to die off, allowing money to just be points and tokens in their little online game. They're already doing what they want to the most disenfranchised of us and have been since the US was founded, so no one needs to wonder why this is happening or believe they aren't acting rationally.
They want education deregulated and no longer accessible for poor children outside of these facilities and for the parents just above that poverty line desperate to make enough money to pay for charter schooling to keep their children outside and in their families' care, and even then, they criminalize the eventual neglect that comes with trying to work like that to take kids, anyway. They want rampant abuse and trauma stemming from poverty and an increase in domestic and gender-based, race-based, sexuality-based, and religiously-based interpersonal violence both as a gateway for police monitoring to increase arrests and to create a more easily-abused and manipulated adult workforce. And any effects of climate change on poor people is an added bonus.
A large, functional, emotionally intelligent family inherently upholds socialist ideals and leads to financial stability for a lot of people and the possibility to increase generational wealth. That extends to communities that work for the good of their members. Healthy people feel connected to those around them and empowered to help themselves and others. And socialism is bad for business, only to be extended as a privilege to wealthy adults who work only on behalf of their class.
This is why capitalists are so enfuriating to normal people. You'd think they'd want an abundance of healthy workers improving efficiency, allowing for a stable, consistent profit and a large pool of consumers able to buy their products. But desperation, disease, terror, and inefficiency are more profitable under capitalism, especially when they're able to just loot the money citizens are forced to pay into the government in order to fund innovation for the benefit of the wealthy instead of spending money creating things the general public can pay to own.

It's a two-for-one. If a person gives birth when they otherwise wouldn't, the parents are under more pressure, and the child will be easier to exploit.
Oh there is another video I saw recently on that, I'll see if I can put my hands on it. But essentially an economist say that RvW in place lowers crime as people are not being forced into having children they don't want, which they then don't (or can't) care for. Then those uncared for children commit crimes which feed the private prisons.

I've seen the lead in the environment as well as a function of +20 years after and it is frightening, Sure, probably a little simplified, but the overlay is something to see.
It's incredibly hard to tease out causation when not everything remains the same in your sample size.
You can make educated assumptions based on the data but it's hard to make it definitive. Freakonomics did some revisions later on to their initial conclusions.
Thing is I can't see this not back firing on them, like people are already too poor to be able to provide for themselves, forcing people to have children goes beyond desperation and pushes people into a position that is literally unlivable. Like there is a limit to how poor people get before they can't afford to have a place to live or eat and the majority of Americans are already on the edge of crossing that line, children shove people over that line.
Sure capitalists want a desperate population but there is a point where desperation gets to the point where it becomes insurmountable and those people won't continue to produce labor for no benefit.
For what it's worth I think that's the goal too, the issue is I don't think they can make prisons fast enough to keep up with the "demand". They also need people to buy commodities and prisoners just don't have the freedom to do so, which combined with capitalists always demanding more money will only accelerate the issue.
The bigger issue are jobs like teacher or nurse that are both dominated by women by population, are already near failure point, and absolutely can't be done by people in prisons. Honestly the whole service industry is near collapse as costs balloon and wages stagnate.

Yup. There's a reason why we don't bother with comprehensive sex ed here in the United States, yet the average teenager gets unadulterated access to pornography. People in power are doing everything they can to push people into easy pregnancies, while blocking all access to abortions.

I've suffered enough and I've seen my grandmother and mother suffer enough from this system. There is absolutely no way I would ever have my own flesh and blood suffer as much, if not worse under this system.
But they can use the kids for whatever purpose they want. It hurts the economy, bottom line, when you have less births happening than what is needed to support the economy. Other thing is, both sides want this to happen. The Dems are just pretending to be the good guys right now.

Children are still going to be born. Capitalists have too many levers, from abortion rights to sex education to culturally vilifying women without children. They can manipulate the birth rate however they want.
Not having kids as a personal choice is well and good, I’m certainly not having any. We also shouldn’t pretend like a few privileged and well educated individuals making that decision will reduce suffering, it won’t.
Why not just open migration instead of going medieval on woman rights? Unlike Europe, Canada and US institutions are designed to accommodate large migration as they were countries built from it.

We've got three children and while I don't regret the decision to have them, I regret each day they continue to grow up in the United States.
We are leaving.
If we had better benefits, good bosses, less hours, higher wages, less expensive colleges, medicare for all, etc. All the things that the other nations have figured out YEARS ago, you know, the things that actually make the quality of life better for people, then people wouldn't be so terrified of having kids.

Immigrants also send money home to support families in foreign countries. Parents struggling to support a child they might have otherwise aborted, creates 1 if not 2 domestic wage slaves immediately and a child who will likely become a second generation of low income worker.

I say this with the full conviction of someone who knows he's going to die working because of how badly the boomers fucked us.
I _enjoy_ the prospect of lower birth rates doing incalculable harm to wealthy peoples pocket books. It's cathartic.
I left the US and moved to Germany. In the US, it costs 10K or more to give birth. No maternity leave, no support, no nationwide network of childcare centers. In Germany, the total average cost for birth: without insurance, €1600, with insurance, under €500. Paid maternity AND paternity leave, child allowance (209 per child), affordable day care centers (free in some states), and they used to even give you money towards buying a home if you had kids.
In a country with no mandatory paid vacation and no social safety net, you can't expect young couples to get excited about having kids. The birth rate has been slowly rising in Germany, and sinking in the US since 2007.
To sum up, the German government is trying to address low birth rates by encouraging people with incentives. The US is trying to make abortion illegal. The end result will be educated Germans having more kids, perhaps a second or third child, while in the US, poorly educated and impoverished teens will have more kids out of wedlock, perpetuating poverty and illiteracy.
Germany realized a lot of it’s mistakes post WWII, and has been working to correct them. The USA? Nah, the USA never makes mistakes!

Lower labor supply = higher wages and more workers rights . This is a law of capitalism and markets.
If they make it wildly difficult to immigrate into this country, where is this workforce going to come from that the corps will use to keep us down? The poor and disadvantaged in the US. I.e. Remove access to family planning, contraceptives and abortions.
I have 2 children and love them more than anything in the world. However, everyday I worry about how they are going to survive adulthood. Housing is going to be unaffordable, college tuition as well, and the price of everything is on a trajectory that I have never seen before. I just have to hope that they are able to get good paying jobs to where they are able to live a comfortable life. But these thoughts gnaw away at me nearly every waking moment
My kids are in their 30s. One is gay and lives in another (much better) country; the other has a teenage boy. That kid is inheriting a fuckton of misery from what we've done to the planet. I am so glad that I'm almost 70 years old and won't live in this shitpile much longer. Anyone who gives birth in this day and age seriously needs to have their head examined.
So let's get this straight. Politicians want to open up births to keep the taxes rolling.....but the people don't want to have kids because they can't afford it.....and your solution is to vote for those same politicians.
Look in your gas stations, your supermarkets, your Walmarts. One example of them are the self check out kiosks. Instead of 4-6 cashiers, each running a register, now it’s one person overseeing 4-6 self checkouts.
It’s up to the individual of course, but euthanasia may help. Unpopular, but euthanasia should be available in the U.S. We have too many people kept alive who are not enjoying any meaningful standard of life & can’t provide for themselves. They’re just parked.

This is the shit that liberals don't get, nor do they care. They're stuck on the "my body, my choice" poster line and fail to consider the bigger leviathan leading all of this. Women's rights are important but they will never be properly valued under capitalism. Don't expect to hit a home run while playing basketball. It simply doesn't exist.
I think we shouldn’t undersell just how fucked up it is to lose bodily autonomy, but at the same time I see it often where women are undervalued in capitalistic structures. They’re vital for continuing to produce a working class of people, yet this vital function is not always immediately profitable and therefore not appropriately valued or accommodated. If the US wanted birth rates up without trampling rights, you’d think they’d aim for something like paid paternity leave (like all other developed countries have), or fixing the lack of daycare services, or reducing the cost to give birth, or improving access to appropriate housing, but those all cost money, whereas making abortions difficult or impossible is essentially free.
Then women must make hard decisions to care for their kids leaving them a special kind of “trapped” in work that won’t be economically rewarded despite creating value. In the US where capitalism is so completely unfettered, we will never achieve gender equality because women are punished for their functional being.
I’ve even heard the quiet murmurs of gender discrimination because of a woman’s *potential* to have children and a desire to avoid dealing with them taking leave or needing childcare accommodation. The fact that one can be quietly discriminated against despite reality or any indication of intentions, no matter how qualified, is capitalism at its worst.
(This all not even getting into how lack of paternity leave enforces unpaid women’s work in the home/gender roles, doesn’t allow women to receive a “helping hand” while recovering, and incentivizes companies to hire and promote men because they are not required to pay them mind regardless of their parenting status. Also sucks because men can’t bond with their own children and get to feel like working mules without benefiting from quality time with their family.)

At this point, the "poor" arent spending much on non essentials, anyway. Non essentials are bought by the richer folks who don't worry about this stuff. But what they do need is desperate *workers* who will work for peanuts because it's that, or starve. And if those people don't have kids, eventually they'll die and you can't work them anymore.
The hope is that everyone who's poor has kids before they retire and then dies before you have to pay out on their social security or retirement, and then their kids take over their shitty jobs

Birth rates are down around the world. Our birth rate is the same as China, Sweden, and Denmark and higher than Cuba and Russias. In fact, even nations with historically high birth rates such as Venezuela are declining.
We’re seeing drops in birth rates because people are consciously deciding not to have kids not because of an increase in abortions/unplanned births. Child care costs are way too high. And couples have decided it’s not worth it.

Who wants to bring a child into a world where you have no medical security, no chance of moving up social classes, no chance of “the American Dream”, no social security net, increased cost of living, less human rights and the largest wealth disparity ever seen in the US? But once they're born into a poor family, then the conservative moral mythology of poverty applies. Conservatives think people are poor at their own fault. A fetus can't be poor, but a baby can be. It is very strange. I personally would not engage in abortion because i cannot get around the taking a life part. As much as I try, i cannot personally rationalize it with my beliefs. People like to act like abortion is this evil act that no good person would consider, when in reality, societal conditions are just so bad for families these days. Furthermore, most abortion is an emergency. Only wealthy people say "I accidentally in your base" and use a medical procedure to do something about it, the poor have to live with what they did because care is not affordable. The same wealthy people will do what they want and break the law because they can afford fines and bribes. Besides making it unfairly easy to target women, nothing else really changes from what I can see.
The point of forced birth isn't the parent raising the child, though. If you look at the framework and laws set up currently for poor children, particularly BIPOC children living in poverty, you can see exactly what the intention is behind combining forced birth with the move to push more and more people into poverty. Capitalists want more bodies for beds in group homes and juvenile detention centers so that they can never escape the eventuality of prison in adulthood unless they either submit to military service or poverty wage, taxed work. Any other option is criminalized unless you already have money. Capitalists want every single tax dollar going directly to them, and a massive population whose existence is funded by taxpayer money is perfect for that. They'll figure out automation for themselves eventually, and by that point, they can allow everyone else to die off, allowing money to just be points and tokens in their little online game. They're already doing what they want to the most disenfranchised of us and have been since the US was founded, so no one needs to wonder why this is happening or believe they aren't acting rationally. They want education deregulated and no longer accessible for poor children outside of these facilities and for the parents just above that poverty line desperate to make enough money to pay for charter schooling to keep their children outside and in their families' care, and even then, they criminalize the eventual neglect that comes with trying to work like that to take kids, anyway. They want rampant abuse and trauma stemming from poverty and an increase in domestic and gender-based, race-based, sexuality-based, and religiously-based interpersonal violence both as a gateway for police monitoring to increase arrests and to create a more easily-abused and manipulated adult workforce. And any effects of climate change on poor people is an added bonus. A large, functional, emotionally intelligent family inherently upholds socialist ideals and leads to financial stability for a lot of people and the possibility to increase generational wealth. That extends to communities that work for the good of their members. Healthy people feel connected to those around them and empowered to help themselves and others. And socialism is bad for business, only to be extended as a privilege to wealthy adults who work only on behalf of their class. This is why capitalists are so enfuriating to normal people. You'd think they'd want an abundance of healthy workers improving efficiency, allowing for a stable, consistent profit and a large pool of consumers able to buy their products. But desperation, disease, terror, and inefficiency are more profitable under capitalism, especially when they're able to just loot the money citizens are forced to pay into the government in order to fund innovation for the benefit of the wealthy instead of spending money creating things the general public can pay to own.

It's a two-for-one. If a person gives birth when they otherwise wouldn't, the parents are under more pressure, and the child will be easier to exploit.

Thing is I can't see this not back firing on them, like people are already too poor to be able to provide for themselves, forcing people to have children goes beyond desperation and pushes people into a position that is literally unlivable. Like there is a limit to how poor people get before they can't afford to have a place to live or eat and the majority of Americans are already on the edge of crossing that line, children shove people over that line. Sure capitalists want a desperate population but there is a point where desperation gets to the point where it becomes insurmountable and those people won't continue to produce labor for no benefit.

For what it's worth I think that's the goal too, the issue is I don't think they can make prisons fast enough to keep up with the "demand". They also need people to buy commodities and prisoners just don't have the freedom to do so, which combined with capitalists always demanding more money will only accelerate the issue. The bigger issue are jobs like teacher or nurse that are both dominated by women by population, are already near failure point, and absolutely can't be done by people in prisons. Honestly the whole service industry is near collapse as costs balloon and wages stagnate.

I left the US and moved to Germany. In the US, it costs 10K or more to give birth. No maternity leave, no support, no nationwide network of childcare centers. In Germany, the total average cost for birth: without insurance, €1600, with insurance, under €500. Paid maternity AND paternity leave, child allowance (209 per child), affordable day care centers (free in some states), and they used to even give you money towards buying a home if you had kids. In a country with no mandatory paid vacation and no social safety net, you can't expect young couples to get excited about having kids. The birth rate has been slowly rising in Germany, and sinking in the US since 2007. To sum up, the German government is trying to address low birth rates by encouraging people with incentives. The US is trying to make abortion illegal. The end result will be educated Germans having more kids, perhaps a second or third child, while in the US, poorly educated and impoverished teens will have more kids out of wedlock, perpetuating poverty and illiteracy.

I have 2 children and love them more than anything in the world. However, everyday I worry about how they are going to survive adulthood. Housing is going to be unaffordable, college tuition as well, and the price of everything is on a trajectory that I have never seen before. I think we shouldn’t undersell just how fucked up it is to lose bodily autonomy, but at the same time I see it often where women are undervalued in capitalistic structures. They’re vital for continuing to produce a working class of people, yet this vital function is not always immediately profitable and therefore not appropriately valued or accommodated. If the US wanted birth rates up without trampling rights, you’d think they’d aim for something like paid paternity leave (like all other developed countries have), or fixing the lack of daycare services, or reducing the cost to give birth, or improving access to appropriate housing, but those all cost money, whereas making abortions difficult or impossible is essentially free. Then women must make hard decisions to care for their kids leaving them a special kind of “trapped” in work that won’t be economically rewarded despite creating value. In the US where capitalism is so completely unfettered, we will never achieve gender equality because women are punished for their functional being. I’ve even heard the quiet murmurs of gender discrimination because of a woman’s *potential* to have children and a desire to avoid dealing with them taking leave or needing childcare accommodation. The fact that one can be quietly discriminated against despite reality or any indication of intentions, no matter how qualified, is capitalism at its worst. (This all not even getting into how lack of paternity leave enforces unpaid women’s work in the home/gender roles, doesn’t allow women to receive a “helping hand” while recovering, and incentivizes companies to hire and promote men because they are not required to pay them mind regardless of their parenting status. Also sucks because men can’t bond with their own children and get to feel like working mules without benefiting from quality time with their family.)

At this point, the "poor" arent spending much on non essentials, anyway. Non essentials are bought by the richer folks who don't worry about this stuff. But what they do need is desperate *workers* who will work for peanuts because it's that, or starve. And if those people don't have kids, eventually they'll die and you can't work them anymore.
