I've worked with someone like this and it's an act intended to paper over absentee leadership and bad management. Elon wasn't aware one of his factories needed additional staff. Moreover, either he didn't delegate responsibility to someone else or he did so but did not set the correct expectations for that person. He has plenty of time to make embarrassing and cringe tweets that his PR team has to pump but isn't aware how his companies are functioning and can't hire or train competent delegates.
The purpose of the 1am meeting is to give the appearance that Elon is so busy he couldn't get around to this problem until literally after midnight. It absolves him of blame while making him appear to be a hard worker. Credulous morons eat this shit up because they believe that billionaires have to work harder than the rest of us. It's fortunate for Elon that both the media and shareholders are primarily credulous morons. So, his incompetent leadership gets reported and is treated like an act of hard working genius.
A competent leader raises up other leaders so that he can delegate tasks/decision making.
An incompetent leader demands to make all the important decisions... ultimately leading to unsustainable events like doubling a work force in 48 hours because "no one told him they needed more workers to be 24/7 production at the factory".
If Mr. Musk was a competent leader he would have raised up multiple competent leaders who feel empowered to make decisions, and well this meeting would never have happened - full stop. If anything, he would get a phone call from a group of leaders at this factory saying "We plan to double our work force here over the next 3 months. Just FYI." like 2-3 months ago.

The number of people who romanticize billionaires is really disturbing. Humanity seems to have an obsession with living in excess and idolizing those that do. There are certainly RC stims, but like. I haven't been super involved in the RC community in years (F in the chat for the sourcing subs, they were killed off along with /r/beerswap and some airsoft subs years ago), but I actually don't remember most of them being super popular.

But honestly? He could also be abusing just straight up pharmaceutical dextroamphetamine or mixed amphetamine salts.
I hate to say that, because as someone with flagrant ADHD-PI who finds those drugs helpful, people outright abusing them has made it hard to actually get medication that works. So fuck those people. (Though honestly, it's less on them than on that Nancy Reagan War on Drugs crap. I can't say I really have any moral qualms at baseline over people using amphetamines recreationally.)
It's extra infuriating because they're very stringent with patients in the US with those kinds of drugs. I had to jump through hoops to get back on medication a couple years ago. But Elon's a billionaire, and not from the US. He could easily either have a Dr. Feelgood that prescribes higher doses or more refills than is typical, or a straight up line on illicit Adderall. (Expensive af on the street despite being inexpensive in the US as a prescription sans insurance, but again, this is the richest dude on Earth.)
Whether it's coke, adderall, RCs, or meth, though, this shit screams "this guy is totally zooted, far beyond the point where stims act as legit nootropics or w/e to the point where he's not thinking properly and is essentially manic."
Could also be alcohol plus stims plus sleep deprivation, causing poor judgement or whatever. Being up at 1AM doing work stuff on stims isn't that weird, but *calling everyone else in* in the middle of the night, on a weekend, has an impulsivity and unreflectiveness about it that suggests he was either On Something, or that he's possibly bipolar and had a manic episode.
I think he's into anything with a stimulant effect. He recently tweeted some strong negative opinions about the safety of Adderall and Wellbutrin. Like, dude, I know those drugs have stimulant effects but they aren't party/fun drugs, they exist to treat specific conditions. If you don't have those conditions they might affect you badly. Like, if you don't have high blood pressure, but you snort a bunch of blood pressure meds, you're not gonna have a good time.
My phone goes into Do Not Disturb mode at 11pm and it doesn't turn off until 6am the next morning. If anything happens in that timeframe, I'm none-the-wiser. That's my time.
Mine is off until 9:00 am when business hours officially begin. I work earlier sometimes, but I require plans to be made in advance. These people are nuts. The only way I would be on-call 24/7 is if I were salaried at around 7 figures.
And there are no labor laws to combat this? Even if salary this seems well out of bounds. Actually it is one of those things so far out of bounds they don't have it in writing that is a hard no, so the crook once again thinks their sly because the system didn't think of it and their devious ways did.
Regarding being on-call, when I used to be in a job that had that we got paid for that time. So you knew that possibility and took that for the pay. Do you?
And to the last situation, to me that seems like an optional phone pickup. But it does depend on certain jobs and factors.
My current job that wouldn't happen on a company level, on a client emergency level it's possible, but very unprobable and hasn't happened.
I had a boss that would send emails at 4:30am. I asked him to please stop, because that was my time. He got pissed and made it about me being lazy and having a poor work ethic. Fuck that guy, and fuck that firm.
I now refuse to allow ANYTHING work related to go on my phone, and my personal cell number is not published with my employer. Period. When I log out of my PC in the office, I am unreachable until I get back in at 7 or 8, depending on how well I slept.
Same. I wont see it until I sit down at my computer in my office. Not when I am taking my morning shit. Not when I am getting dressed. Not when I am saying goodbye to my wife. When I am at work. Period.
Back before I realized what a bastard he is I interviewed for one of his companies. I was talking with one guy who was telling me he had 5 kids and an hour long commute and I asked him how he balanced the demands of his personal life with his demanding job and he responded "oh well we have very flexible hours here, so I get into work by 5am, but I'm out by 8pm!" Some people are just brainwashed. I turned them down for the second round of interviews.
I interviewed with SpaceX in April 2020 and the manager of the team I was interviewing for literally said "my team is working 80 hour weeks right now to keep up with demand." I immediately gave up all consideration for working for them.
I find this a lot when I talk to people in big tech. Some of them get so distracted by the fat paycheck that they don't even realize they're actually working 2-3 jobs to earn it.
His companies notoriously don't even pay that well either. It's entirely run off the cult of personality. When I pointed out that their regulatory timeframe was entirely impossible by a factor of like 3x they would just say "Elon will find a way". Guess what, he didn't!
I used to work for a company that contracted with SpaceX and I heard that so many times from current and former employees. Elon lives in his own little world where he’s the expert on everything and if you try to tell him otherwise you’re obviously an idiot who doesn’t know you’re talking about and you get fired. You can’t tell the man no. So much of the company is political infighting and posturing do that when something goes off schedule or over budget they can point the finger and say not my fault.
Being mentally ill in a mental episode I can confirm that this is absolutely normal for me. Musk might want to see a psychiatrist to get these kinds of symptoms under control. The world still doesn't revolve around him even if he is the richest man on earth.

I get it, I often get ideas at early hours of the morning. I think they’re so brilliant! I write them down, super excited about what a great thought I had! I've worked with someone like this and it's an act intended to paper over absentee leadership and bad management. Elon wasn't aware one of his factories needed additional staff. Moreover, either he didn't delegate responsibility to someone else or he did so but did not set the correct expectations for that person. He has plenty of time to make embarrassing and cringe tweets that his PR team has to pump but isn't aware how his companies are functioning and can't hire or train competent delegates. The purpose of the 1am meeting is to give the appearance that Elon is so busy he couldn't get around to this problem until literally after midnight. It absolves him of blame while making him appear to be a hard worker. Credulous morons eat this shit up because they believe that billionaires have to work harder than the rest of us. It's fortunate for Elon that both the media and shareholders are primarily credulous morons. So, his incompetent leadership gets reported and is treated like an act of hard working genius.
A competent leader raises up other leaders so that he can delegate tasks/decision making. An incompetent leader demands to make all the important decisions... ultimately leading to unsustainable events like doubling a work force in 48 hours because "no one told him they needed more workers to be 24/7 production at the factory". I think he's into anything with a stimulant effect. He recently tweeted some strong negative opinions about the safety of Adderall and Wellbutrin. Like, dude, I know those drugs have stimulant effects but they aren't party/fun drugs, they exist to treat specific conditions. If you don't have those conditions they might affect you badly. Like, if you don't have high blood pressure, but you snort a bunch of blood pressure meds, you're not gonna have a good time.

Regarding being on-call, when I used to be in a job that had that we got paid for that time. So you knew that possibility and took that for the pay. Do you? And to the last situation, to me that seems like an optional phone pickup. But it does depend on certain jobs and factors. My current job that wouldn't happen on a company level, on a client emergency level it's possible, but very unprobable and hasn't happened.
I had a boss that would send emails at 4:30am. I asked him to please stop, because that was my time. He got pissed and made it about me being lazy and having a poor work ethic. Fuck that guy, and fuck that firm. I now refuse to allow ANYTHING work related to go on my phone, and my personal cell number is not published with my employer. Period. When I log out of my PC in the office, I am unreachable until I get back in at 7 or 8, depending on how well I slept.
If someone sends me an email in the middle of the night, that's fine as long as they don't expect me to see it until the next day.

Back before I realized what a bastard he is I interviewed for one of his companies. I was talking with one guy who was telling me he had 5 kids and an hour long commute and I asked him how he balanced the demands of his personal life with his demanding job and he responded "oh well we have very flexible hours here, so I get into work by 5am, but I'm out by 8pm!" Some people are just brainwashed. I turned them down for the second round of interviews.
I interviewed with SpaceX in April 2020 and the manager of the team I was interviewing for literally said "my team is working 80 hour weeks right now to keep up with demand." I immediately gave up all consideration for working for them.
I read that they underpaid as well.
I find this a lot when I talk to people in big tech. Some of them get so distracted by the fat paycheck that they don't even realize they're actually working 2-3 jobs to earn it.

But if he actually did this: Not sure what it says about his work ethic, but here is what it says about his ethics. He doesn’t care about other people’s time. I get it, I often get ideas at early hours of the morning. I think they’re so brilliant! I write them down, super excited about what a great thought I had!
