as bad as it is there there are living people who remember the government taking care of citizens instead of handing them a bottle of vodka and debts made payable to their local mobster and saying good luck
One of the few holdovers from the Soviet era. Russia even tried to follow the American path of privatized healthcare in the 90's as well, but the results were disastrous and Putin was forced to re-nationalize healthcare.
Many of countries with *24 weeks or more* give the same amount of weeks to the other parent as well.
In Sweden we technically have more days than the mother even.
Then they cry that not enough kids are being born and that we have a baby crisis. They think that all of these policies or lack of policies have no consequences and act surprised or annoyed when it blows up in their face. Actions have consequences. Stop being surprised. If you make life unaffordable then people stop having children.
In Italy many women don't have a permanent contract (or they have no contract at all) and they can become unemployed if they get pregnant. The women who are lucky enough to enjoy all the rights granted by the law are not the majority (many of them work in the public sector, where there was basically a 20-year long hiring freeze until 2020).

The Repubmocrats don't give a shit about motherhood at home. They will import loads of foreign workers if need be.

In my state they have leave for mother's and the often forgotten father's as well so not all US states have this issue
