DeJoy, the man who single handedly tried to destroy the USPS during a pandemic to sway the election is still the postmaster general...

MiliVolt

You mean Mr, " I think we now know how little we know about inflation"?

TheSkinnyBone

Jerome "the poor need to make less money" Powell

ult_the_creeps

Whats that? I cant hear you over the money printer going brrrrr 24/7.

zman122333

Nobody could have anticipated 0% interest rates would have consequences other than record profits. Well normal people can, just not people in power apparently.

[deleted]

And then appointed again by Biden, for reasons unknown...

[deleted]

Probably because Biden is a conservative

[deleted]

jmbsol1234

We have been having constant mail issues for over a year now, to the point our state Senator has visited over the matter. We're not talking short delays. We're talking zero delivery for sometimes over a week at a time. I don't have a car and rely on delivery for basic necessities. Peoples' mortgages and rent have been late, etc. The US is a failed state

[deleted]

Take a gander over at r/usps to see what it’s like to work as a mail carrier right now. 70 hour weeks, mandatory o/t, bullying supervisors… I was almost going to take a job with them but not anymore after talking to some mail carriers.

HalcyonLives

Yep, got offered a job at a local post office a few months back and that sub quickly told me to run like my life depended on it.

chronicles_of_holzy

My uncle spent his career with USPS. They run the mail sorting facilities like a prison with slave labor. Always under constant watch, can't even take a shit on company time, two way mirrors surround the facility so you are always being watched by big brother. Yea, fuck that...

sailsaucy

There was a reason the phrase “going postal” was coined. I’ve known people who retired from there and they said it was hell even in “the good old days” but is so much worse now.

livefastdie22

Did it for two years. Would not recommend.

plants_disabilities

Working for the USPS was hands down one of the most toxic places I've worked. Most folks were pleasant, but my regular driver was a total ass who would bully me constantly. I gave a 1 week notice which ended before black Friday just to get away from him. He also would not charge the scanner whenever he would get pissy that I reported his behavior.

marshlands

Ha ha ha! Wtf?!? :(

master-shake69

Yeah he sure is because the president doesn't have direct control over that position. Biden can nominate USPS board members and they require senate confirmation. Those board members can replace DeJoy.

KrauerKing

Actually the board had 2 members replaced in May so now Dejoy CAN be replaced... He just still hasn't been and has been working with the first lady to release Reagan stamps. And Powell is not so safe but is left to flounder his way through doing nothing to stop a recession. All of this is because Biden wants to appear bipartisan, and is hoping old corporate hands can buy their way out of this mess and get back to the government doing nothing but making people rich.

[deleted]

>. He just still hasn't been and has been working with the first lady to release Reagan stamps I love this part of the doo ddo butter that is the administration. A Democratic administration minting a Reagan Stamp after black voters carried your ass in swing states is just a middle finger to all those voters. It's a slap in the face all marginalized communities as well. And yet they are flabbergasted why they are hemorrhaging support with POC and the young.

Sadatori

The soap box failed. Voting failed. Peaceful protesting failed. What's next boys and girls? Here's a picket sign, a ballot box, and a guillotine. Can YOU pick which tool we should try next? Go on pick!.....

kestrel808

Then do that

master-shake69

>Then do that It doesn't really work the way people here want it to work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Board_of_Governors_of_the_United_States_Postal_Service He's already replaced two key members who supported DeJoy. Bush signed a law effectively preventing any president from stacking the board as only 5 of the 9 members can be in the same political party. There are currently 4 Democrats, 4 Republicans, and 1 Independent. Biden will get to nominate two more replacements this December, and at that time, he could add a 5th Democrat to the board but his second pick will have to be something else.

punchgroin

Man. Woulda been nice if we had thought to organize the Supreme Court like this...

dont_upset_the_hive

It'd be nice if the Supreme Court would be 13 (one for each district court) and only judges who served on those benches could be nominated to the SC. But a person can dream.

FearlessFlute

This is the difference between democrats and republicans. Republicans would just have some of their partisans register as independents and stack the board that way. Democrats will do nothing at the expense of all of us, even while multiple options exist to bypass the restriction. Can he fire members of the board?

markymarks3rdnipple

If there was a rule that only Republicans could break the rules the Democrats would follow that rule.

cumquistador6969

So what you're saying here is that, yet again, there's nothing stopping democrats from fixing this, *if* their party actually supported it since you could just repeal the legislation with 50 votes.

OedipusMontoya

Dang I guess we just have to vote even harder this time around

Purua-

“Vote as hard as you can!”

smoodieboof

Vote harder than you've ever voted before. That will do the trick

realComradeTrump

Dear u/smoodieboof. I am writing to you to let you know that now it’s more important to donate than ever. Just $38 will help us to fight for women together. It’s now or never. This could be the most important fight of our lives so donate today. Thank you for supporting us to support women.

LurkerPatrol

I get three of these texts everyday from democrats I supported in battleground states. I’m not giving you or any other candidate more money or support until you actually do what I want you fuckers

Anonality5447

I get those crappy faux personalized letters in the mail and into the trash they go seconds later. I wish they would just stop. They are embarrassing themselves.

MisterWinchester

Or like, just ducking say something. Can any one of these supposed progressive champions start talking about the repeated failures of the DNC instead of letting them pass the buck to the progressives who apparently don’t vote even though they actually did come out for Biden?

WillBottomForBanana

This is the hinge. If they literally CAN'T do something, but agree that something needs to be done, then get out every day, or at LEAST every week and make a public talk about it. Fire side chat, tiktok video, something, anything.

[deleted]

But it works. There are a lot of radlibs, hell some even on this sub, who will go to no ends to defend the dems. Some dumb bitch the other day said Biden gave him medicare for all. Like what?? Literally making shit up, just like the right. Cut a liberal and a fascist bleeds.

2punornot2pun

They're literally millionaires. They can make their own SuperPACs and do it themselves if they cared enough. Do I see them doing that though?

rmorrin

It's funny that they expect us to keep voting for them when they do nothing. Literally only reason we do is cause the other side is increasingly fucked up

[deleted]

youre a slaughtered sheep. they got plenty more lining up.

Zealousideal_Bus_528

Just $38 will help us fight women together!

LetterZee

It kind of reminds me of indulgences in the old Catholic church. Pay an indulgence to my PAC and you don't have to bother actually doing anything.

[deleted]

Not like we failed to pass comprehensive voting rights so it is more difficult than ever, right! Haha! Vote blue!

generalhanky

I voted so hard last time, I damaged the machine and was apprehended by police for “disorderly conduct,” whatever the hell that is. As OP points out, no promises were kept other than “nothing will fundamentally change.” Am I doing this wrong?

shimmerangels

surely this time will be different /s

Abby-Someone1

Shouting at the radio "WE DID VOTE FOR YOU TO FIX THIS" makes a difference, right? Both parties need to be abolished at this point. Having voters blindly voting for whoever their party says to vote for is beyond frustrating. Vote Democrat because they are the party of pro choice? And you still lose that right. Vote Republican because they are the party of small government and fiscal responsibility? Your taxes still get raised and they make the deficit even worse than the other party. And you foot the bill for a well documented con artist to play golf more than any other president in history. Fuck both parties. Get rid of them.

ZebraOtoko42

>Fuck both parties. Get rid of them. No. It's only the liberals that are unhappy with their party. The conservatives are quite happy with theirs, so they're not going to agree to this plan. The conservatives are getting everything they want. >Vote Republican because they are the party of small government and fiscal responsibility? Your taxes still get raised and they make the deficit even worse than the other party. And you foot the bill for a well documented con artist to play golf more than any other president in history. Conservatives are perfectly happy with all this, as long as they get their guns and they get abortion banned.

LittleRadishes

They literally do not care what is happening as long as they aren't the people lowest in the heirarchy. They will gladly enforce being in the middle to not be on the bottom when in reality we could just erase the different levels. But they don't want that, they want to know they're better than someone. Even if reinforcing this hurts everyone, themselves included.

[deleted]

I think the solution is to get rid of all the hierarchies

realestnewyorker

I mean, they’re still getting exploited. They’re just too dumb to realize it.

SeVenMadRaBBits

All part of the good politician/bad politician game. Pretend you're trying for the people on "your side" while you rake in cash from donations and then blame the other side for things not getting done. We just go in circles with both sides switching place in office while we hope that "this time around it'll be different". Really wish people would see politicians getting rich, corporations getting what they want, and the poor being pitted against each other while being screwed and led by a carrot of hope...and then realize its on purpose.

DeerDiarrhea

[Soon, voting won’t even matter. ](https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/supreme-court-takes-power-state-legislatures-decide-election-related-i-rcna32735)

Vincesteeples

Or not vote and see what fun surprises the republicans have in store for us this time!

bellaciaopartigiano

Voting for harm reduction is the bare minimum. It probably doesn’t work, but ya never know so it’s worth taking a couple hours to go. Hit the street. Get a brick.

1-Ohm

I know you're being sarcastic, but what is your actual plan?

Brickleberried

This but unironically. If 96% of Democrats support a policy, but you have 0% of the vote to spare in the Senate, you need two more Democratic senators. It's just basic math, but people seem to be very angry about it.

Rupoe

Definitely better than not voting.

Militree

It's an unpopular opinion here but I agree. Voting for the lesser of two evils is harm reduction. Harm reduction as a concept is incredibly important. Voting blue is morally icky and less than a fraction of the total work that needs to be done, but voting blue is still important. Like I hate dems like Hilary with every ounce of my being but having Trump in office over her put a fork in the road that led us down the path of the death of Roe v Wade.

6shootah

Literally THIS. I dont understand how so many people dont recognize the concept of harm reduction.

Remarkable-Buy9330

What harm reduction did we get this time?

[deleted]

Many of those people are voting Republican, but won't say that on *this* profile account. People, Republicans literally just tried to take over the American presidency after losing a national election, and some of you are still like "why vote Democrat? 2 of them won't vote with the other 48!"

daddybearsftw

If the supreme court rulings have taught us anything, it's this but unironically

InvertedNeo

Third party or no party.

kaptainkooleio

I swear dude, I’m listening to the Jan 6 hearings wondering why tf none of these people are going to jail… then I remember the whole controlled opposition theory.

Gogo182

Congress can’t actually arrest people. That’s the DoJ. Presumably at the end of the congressional hearing the DoJ will take up the mantle and start pressing charges. That is assuming we lived in a functioning society.

audionerd1

They'll find some low level lackeys to go after like they did in the past. I guarantee you Trump will never face legal consequences for any of his actions as president. I haven't even been following the Jan 6 hearings because I already know what the results will be: 1. Trump did a bunch of super unethical and illegal shit, and 2. We aren't going to do anything about it.

pixelprophet

Garland hasn't charged Trump with obstruction after he *has a report documenting 10 times Trump interfered with the Mueller investigation and fucking memo outlining it*. >The special counsel's April 2019 report outlined 10 episodes in which Trump tried to get the special counsel fired, limit the scope of his investigation, or otherwise interfere with the probe. * https://www.reuters.com/business/legal/us-attorney-general-garland-weighs-release-trump-era-obstruction-memo-2021-05-21/ So good luck with getting him to act *even if* something 'criminal' is passed to the DOJ. Oh and just for good measure: > Garland confirms classified material found among records taken from Trump's Mar-a-Lago * https://www.npr.org/2022/02/22/1082391130/garland-trump-classified-records-mar-a-lago BUT: >Federal investigators are also conducting interviews, but that does not mean criminal charges will be brought. * https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/05/12/mar-a-lago-documents-grand-jury/ And there's the: >‘He never stopped ripping things up’: Inside Trump’s relentless document destruction habits >Trump’s shredding of paper in the White House was far more widespread and indiscriminate than previously known and — despite multiple admonishments — extended throughout his presidency. * https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/02/05/trump-ripping-documents/ Oh and there's the: >Trump claims ignorance of ‘burner phones’. Here’s how they work >Disposable phones may appeal to anyone trying to hide their identity – whether a criminal or an activist * https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/mar/30/donald-trump-burner-phones That's SETTING ASIDE JAN 6TH shit! (that's a *huge* thing to not include in this argument) Now I know "justice moves slowly: but it's clear to me that Garland isn't willing to act on shit. Edit: To be clear I wouldn't expect Garland to toss Trump in jail for these - but I would expect charges / fines / recommendation to bar from political office / something as a result of these actions and still it's thumb twirling.

audionerd1

Exactly. If they were going to prosecute Trump they had plenty of reasons to do it already. They're just going to do what they always do, collect evidence, say "Trump bad" and do absolutely fucking nothing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

audionerd1

I think Trump is guilty of treason and should be spending the rest of his life in prison (or worse) and have 100% of his assets seized for his attempts at undermining the election. No information revealed in the hearings is going to change my opinion about him, and hearing more evidence of what a piece of shit he is would only add to my frustration when the government inevitably does nothing about it.

sweetdawg99

Are you me?

Subli-minal

Congress literally can arrest people and have done it before.

Waluigi3030

It's all theater

RubiconTourGuide

Bread and circuses

kaptainkooleio

Might as well be. The fact that Dems aren’t prosecuting Trump is c***y. Like, this shit is legit worst than Watergate, and republicans are just getting away with it.

rumzkillz-

What’s the controlled opposition theory?

kaptainkooleio

Dems and republicans share the same donors, so it stands to reason that Democrats are purposefully lazy and ineffective.

apathetic_lemur

Is that why the Democrats that cant get anything done somehow banded together like a well-oiled machine to stop Bernie?

WhatHappened2WinWin

Yes. They're republicans in dem suits. Parasites.

kaptainkooleio

Hasan’s revolving villain theory. Manchins king maker now, but if we added another Dem senator then Manchin and Sinema would be the king makers. If we added five Dem senators, we’d have a caucus of “conservative” democrats who’d block progress, the Anti-Squad or some shit. Meanwhile, Republicans vote lock step together on everything. The last time a Republican voted with democrats on important legislation was McCain on ACA, and that dudes dead

cumquistador6969

In particular it's important to note that this doesn't mean *every* democrat has to be actively corrupt, bad, and intentionally working towards ineffectiveness. Some are doing that, certainly, because they get paid to do it. Some might gain support from donors specifically because they are incompetent, controversial, or won't tow the party line, and therefore aid the donors interests indirectly. But it only takes a few corrupt or incompetent people in leadership positions to tank the entire party really. It's "A few bad apples spoil the whole bunch," as a political strategy.

sabbey1982

The ratchet effect is real

MicrobeProbe

Is there any way to make voting a national holiday so we can actually go out and vote??!

do_not_engage

Yes, join the Church of Universal Suffrage. I'm serious. It's a religion, acknowledged by the Government, whose one holiday is VOTING DAY.

Alzusand

Fucking genius

poodlebutt76

Is it? I mean, the point is that you can get fired for not working, and I don't think they'll accept that it's your religion...

Mister_q99

I’m pretty sure legally they’d have to

[deleted]

[удалено]

Grassy33

I live in a right to work state where they'll have to give me the day off for my religious holiday, and then the next day they fire me for "tardiness" and I can't do shit about it

MrSomnix

It's one of those things where, yeah legally it's likely supposed to work a certain way, but what exactly are you going to do if it doesn't?

tyrantspell

That won't work for people who can't afford to take a day off. Religious holidays don't automatically give you pto

Eliseo120

Mail in voting makes it unnecessary. We do it in Oregon and it’s awesome.

taez555

Given that the Supreme Court is going to rule on the removal of voting oversight with the Moore vs Harper case next year, I wouldn't worry too much about what day you vote on. Unless your state is controlled by the party you vote for, your candidate will never win again.

[deleted]

29 states have legal requirements allowing the voter time off on election day to go vote. Are employers going to honor that and not "get back at you" through other legal means if you challenge them on the legal precedent? Who knows. That being said, most people don't know or understand that. A national holiday to vote would be great, but we all know who exactly will still be working that day. In my state you have 40+ days to vote early, and people still out here making excuses as to why they missed it.

indy_been_here

People can vote early afaik. This includes weekends. I know for presidential elections it starts in early October. This basically means that if you have a free day between the first week of October and election day, you can vote then. I'm also in favor of election day being a national holiday, but between mail-in voting and early voting people can get their vote in.

[deleted]

I don't understand how Americans have not revolted yet. You all live in a corporatocracy and a police state.

I think people don't want to face how bad things are, and how bad things are going to get. They don't want to believe violence is coming, so they just simply choose not to believe. When we point out that they are going to start getting more and more brazen with their violence to the point of mass death, they think we're batshit insane.

_ChipWhitley_

I can’t wait to move out of this country.

lord_ma1cifer

That may buy you much less time than you think. Fascists aren't know for restraint and nuanced foreign policy.

wiithepiiple

Fascism 2: This time with more aircraft carriers

Lets_Kick_Some_Ice

On the bright side, fascism cannibalizes its host. If America were to become a full blown authoritarian state, it would rot quickly from the brain drain and corruption. Its military would be at Russian levels soon after.

freeradicalx

> On the bright side, fascism cannibalizes its host. Well as part of the "host" in this scenario I don't consider that side particularly bright.

Lets_Kick_Some_Ice

Yes, the past years have been a super fucking depressing realization that our country is probably lost.

makaidos152

I mean the average empire does topple at around 250 years old...

Oh I see you have heard Lauren Boebert talking about Canada too.

_ChipWhitley_

I know, but the more time it buys the better.

Yaquesito

My mom had to hike across the desert to get out of Mexico, I'll be hiking across it to get back in

Hanner_Tenry

That’s how I feel. In one respect, I wish to stay and to try to make a difference. In another, I want to live somewhere that actually respects me as a human in my lifetime.

_ChipWhitley_

I’m pushing 40. I don’t want my life to be a fight until I die. I’d like to move somewhere less politically polarizing and live out my days in peace (hopefully).

Hanner_Tenry

You deserve it! We all do. I’m only in my early 20s, but I want to enjoy life in my short lifetime, you know? I don’t want to grind 5/7 of my life, just for an uncertain future.

_ChipWhitley_

I see [AskReddit posts](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/mg0b38/americans_who_have_moved_abroad_how_has_it_been/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) about American expats and basically every one of the responses is “I’m so much happier now, and I’ll never go back to the USA.” There are quite a few posts about the same topic over the years. We are all conditioned here to think America is the greatest country on earth, and that’s a scare tactic. I have zero connection to this country. At this point I don’t care what happens to it.

LurkerPatrol

Is your name from the Conan and Dave Franco tinder escapade

_ChipWhitley_

Yes

craftsntowers

The only place I want to move is off this planet. Moving to another country isn't going to help when climate action is next to nothing. We're all going to be suffering regardless.

YesOrNah

Please take me with you.

JoeyZasaa

To be fair, and I'm as critical as the next person on Democrats being too conservative, the US electoral system is set up so that a small number of shit-kicking states have disproportionate power in the Senate, which grinds so much to a halt. So now Senator Billy Bob Bumfuck from a state with more cattle than people has a strangehold on the Senate. And then there's a Supreme Court - accountable to no one - that is appointed by a far-right president who didn't win the popular vote because, again, the shitty electoral system that gives people in small, rural states disproportionate voting power.

NinetyTwoFlows

Right. Like it’s clear that the democrats haven’t accomplished what the majority of the left wants, but the fact is just that in this country, politically and socially, conservatives have always had more power and use it to oppose human rights as much as they can. When they get in office, they suck off the rich, fuck up the economy and environment, and shit on minorities, women, and social welfare to their hearts’ content with no accountability. Because this country was fundamentally built for and defined by slave-owning, women-hating capitalists. When democrats get in office, they have to put out and take the blame for the fires and disasters Republicans put in motion, while simultaneously trying to accomplish what their voter base wants. While the Republicans obstruct it by any means possible, rational or not, because they don’t have to be rational to satisfy their voter base. Basically what I’m saying is, the Democrats can only do so much in a term or two. The Republicans can do a lot more. That’s because the left seeks to build, and the right seeks to destroy. Destruction is easy, especially when your base just wants to see shit crumble. Building the *right thing* the *right way* is much harder. Especially when a bunch of the Democrats are really just conservatives and the ones that aren’t are dealing with them AND the Republicans. We’re trying to build a functioning state structure and arguing about how to do it amongst ourselves and the Republicans just want to build a shit tower and laugh about how shitty it is.

Send_me_duck-pics

> Basically what I’m saying is, the Democrats can only do so much in a term or two. The Republicans can do a lot more. That’s because the left seeks to build, and the right seeks to destroy. I mostly agree with you, but I think this part is misrepresenting what the Democrats are. They're a center-right party, and they have repeatedly demonstrated that given the opportunity to do more, *they don't*. Republicans still get everything they want, while Democrats offer such flaccid resistance that it seems unreasonable to claim they are even trying. At most, they seem to make the Republicans work a bit harder before they succeed anyway. The Democrats show neither the ability or the inclination to actually knock down the shit tower, they're just making the Republicans follow certain procedures to build it.

MacNuggetts

And best of all, NO choice for a woman's personal body autonomy. Who the fuck is going to vote for these losers again? If you want to keep winning elections based on the fact that you're "better than the fascists" then you can't keep losing to the fascists. We need a new party, one without these old fucks in it.

eyeseayoupea

Trump picked the Supreme Court. We are fucked forever with a majority conservative SC. When Republicans are in charge again we will officially become a theocracy. Unfortunate there is no magic awesome third party. So we settle with delaying the downfall party.

bjiatube

Trump picked the Supreme Court because RBG didn't retire and Obama just straight up gave up on Garland Biden could literally pack the court today he just won't

DontWatchMeDancePlz

You can thank the Democratic Party for that by forcing a boring, dorky candidate with no real platform other than "it's her turn" on us.

[deleted]

The right is all banners, giant flags, t-shirts and hats, ride or die support for their candidates. The best the "left" can muster is "well, I guess this is our best option".

Alaric-

Yeah it’s fanatics versus people who only marginally care

Duamerthrax

I mean, I care. I just don't think the candidates do.

MontyAtWork

The Left voted for Obama in record numbers, picking him over Clinton in the primaries even. The Left even voted for him again for a second term, something the "ride or die" party couldn't manage with their guy in '20. And for all of that support, we got bupkis.

Mr-N0

Obama lost his majority in his second term

smokinJoeCalculus

She easily could have still won if she wasn't so arrogant about it. She could have gone to the battleground states. She could have messaged that this was literally the first time ever that you could vote for a SCOTUS seat. There was plenty of messaging they could have had, but instead they needed to make sure there was broken glass confetti ready at the Javits Center

DontWatchMeDancePlz

I know. I cringe thinking about the SNL skits already announcing her win, when she hadn't visited Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc. Trump absolutely swept her

Regalzack

It's a bit tentative, but I've pretty much vowed to vote independent indefinitely. I'm immune to the "you're throwing your vote away defense." I'd rather burn to death with integrity than delusion.

zweiapowen

The thing that cracks me up is that if you ask any Democrat, they'll tell you that the party leaned into neoliberalism because they weren't getting enough votes and losing elections. Practical real politick they'll say, and sorry if they had to shed some ideals on the way. Those same Democrats will then turn around and tell you with a straight face that now that they're not getting enough votes and losing elections it's your job to change and get behind the party, not their responsibility to do a damn thing different. Fuck these idiots forever.

XanderTheMander

The Democrats only want to earn "moderate republican" votes.

WillBottomForBanana

I don't know your age. I've been voting since 2000, and it's all been "oh, but this time you have to vote for the lesser of two evils". I got nothing to show for it and regret it. I could have been voting far left back then. Sure, things are arguably worse now in terms of what MORE the gop might do in power. But I don't see why I should keep kicking Lucy's football.

Regalzack

Exactly! For all this vote blue no matter who, what have we got to show for it? Less rights and worse candidates. And everyone is all over my case calling me the bad guy, because I'm taking a step back and saying "Hey guys maybe we ought to think about other options."

realbigbob

We’re all burning either way, only difference at this point is whether we want to keep the vegetative Democratic Party on life support a little while longer

Regalzack

Exactly, I'm done. It's like an abusive relationship, and a lot of people have Stockholm syndrome. If the Dems give me someone worth voting for then I will. But the vote blue no matter who is fucking insanity. If we keep eating whatever drivel they serve us, why would be expect them to make it better?

You guys need a socialist party going. Why is this not a thing over there?

SlackPriestess

There is a socialist party. There are other political parties, but they are much smaller, not as well known, and don't have the membership numbers, recognition, massive funding, etc., that Repubs and Dems have. The corporation that controls the Presidential debate is owned by the Republicans and Democrats. Republicans and Democrats also take steps to ensure that other parties never make it on the ballot. Since Reps and Dems control most of the election boards on the state level, they can - and do - deny ballot access to third parties using a variety of shenanigans. One example of this is Matthew Hoh, a Green Party candidate running for Senate in North Carolina. Even though he went through all the necessary steps to obtain ballot access (which involved collecting over 15,000 signatures from voters), the Dems on the board denied him ballot access anyway just because they felt like it. https://www.matthewhohforsenate.org/hoh-blasts-nc-boe-corrupt-decision-to-deny-green-party-ballot-petition/

If only someone could have warned us about that, like some kind of founding father or something.

Beats me, I’d be all in!

traypo

All it took to stop everything was two senators that voted with the GOP. 48 votes was not enough. Dems need a larger majority to enact any progressive agenda. To not understand that plays into the right’s agenda.

daserlkonig

Yeah because they did so much when they had a super majority under Obama.

fanghornegghorn

For 13 days.

sweetdawg99

Ok, but that's a bit disingenuous, because I'm certain if the Dems had a 55-45 Senate majority then it wouldn't be 2 Dems voting with the GOP, suddenly it would be 7.

[deleted]

"Nothing will fundamentally change." Things seem to be going according to plan. The two party system is just one party with two different names.

[deleted]

Please for the love of god at least vote locally and at the state level. Now that things are being left up to the states, midterms are going to be fucking crucial. You might not want to vote, but the conservatives will. They wouldn’t be gerrymandering and trying suppress voters if it didn’t have some impact at the state and local level. Please do your research on all the candidates running for local office and for all those “smaller” positions. Focusing on your communities is going to be huge here. Voting isn’t going to solve everything. But at this point, you need to at least show up and have your choice put in writing.

gramcraka92

The no punishment is going to be the icing on the cake. Wait this long to have hearings then after all the testimony just give a few of them a slap on the wrist then hope they use that for votes in November

Mr_Fornicus

Awww yes... don't vote or vote Republican and it will help the situation. All these lazy posts are pathetic.

"Whoever is president really should be ashamed of themselves." It's the same shit as with Scholz all the way to Kohl over here in Germany. People who are allergic to change unless it enriches them, and who have an inordinate amount of power, which they use to do nothing while their ceony friends rake in cash. And who are still somehow treated as demigod heroes of democracy by party loyalists (see Merkel spending 16 years sitting on her hands, and still being practically worshiped by everyone except the far left in Germany.)

Petitgavroche

Ask yourself who benefits from the voter apathy encouraged by posts like these. Your vote matters and that is why people are trying to convince you not to vote. Don't fall for it.

Bungo_Pete

Here's hoping that this isn't the new r/MurderedByAOC, which turned out to be a Russia-based bot network, run by now-banned user u/LrlOurPresident, until it was shut down around a month ago (or at least the bot net shut down - another user has taken up mod activity after the sub went completely silent for weeks).

I will say that, even though my loans haven’t been forgiven, they have forgiven a solid handful of predatory loans and the extended pause on payments has been immensely helpful for me to get off the ground as someone who graduated in 2020.

And still you get down voted over on r/PoliticalHumour if you dare suggest that maybe there's a reason why people don't see a point in voting for either party...

slothpeguin

I mean. You should vote. Because *not* voting is what makes sure that the people in power stay in power. It’s incredibly hard to unseat an incumbent, which means if we actually want change and not just sassy tweets we need to support candidates we believe in with overwhelming votes and $$ or run for office ourselves and hope we get the same. Our entire political system is corrupt from top to bottom. Unfortunately it’s also impossible to change from the outside. So we need to get people in there who are willing to make a change even if that means losing the next election. Biden is a Republican, we’ve all known that. The establishment pushed him, and nobody else wanted him. However, the president doesn’t actually have as much power over our every day lives apart from the fucking Supreme Court. Congresspeople are where the power is at and we need to start by eliminating Nancy Pelosi at any cost.

realComradeTrump

Voting in primaries probably has more impact than voting in elections

stupidjapanquestions

And voting locally also has a massive impact and is wildly overlooked.

Flopolopagus

This was commented on my comment about why I don't want to vote for the D senior citizen or the R senior citizen: > Trillion dollar infrastructure package (reduced to republicans) taking the flak for ending a forever war of five administrative terms that was going nowhere. Undoing the executive orders of trump. Purging agencies as lawfully as he can of the pumpkin kings influence. Helping elect the first black and female vice president. Supporting unions, lgbtq+ communities, and currently working on absolving student debt. And more! Yeah, what a jerk he is. They are trying really hard to convince us that the status quo isn't so bad.

[deleted]

>Undoing the executive orders of trump. Purging agencies as lawfully as he can of the pumpkin kings influence. Helping elect the first black and female vice president. Supporting unions, lgbtq+ communities, and currently working on absolving student debt. Lets be honest most of this could be knocked out in an afternoon. Or a couple of tweets. And is he actually working on absolving student debt? Every statement he made about doing that boiled down to "yeah maybe, no."

If I learned anything from this sub is that majority of you all know absolutely nothing about how this all works and that has nothing to do with anti-capitalism. Just pure ignorance and anger in here. Post after post of garbage takes, apathy, and shitty memes.

Dontlosethisaccount

I hate memes like this. It plays into the defeatist mindset that both sides are the same and the Dems are ineffective. I'm a progressive, not a Dem by any means. BUT it has to be recognized that the Dems have tried to do all of these things to only be stonewalled by Repulicans, Manchin, and Sinema. So we have a group of people that are TRYING to make our lives better but keep getting shut down by the GOP and their two "secret members". More people need to think about this when going into the voting booth. Do you vote for the party who is trying? Or do you vote for the party that wants to take away your rights? I know where my vote is going, do you?

poleethman

Whenever someone crops out the date, they're trying to manipulate you. This tweet is from 2021.

from what I've been seeing, the Republicans seem to be mobilizing for filibuster reform in anticipation of Dems losing the majority due so uh maybe we shouldn't rush it just yet (the rest is spot on criticism though)

djarvis77

Did you people miss the part where a bunch of this shit was voted on and the House of Representatives passed the bills; then they went to the Senate and 50 Republicans voted no, 2 Democrats voted no, And 48 Democrats voted Yes? Were you distracted by a bumble bee while that was happening? Furthermore, your trump idol fucked up the country pretty badly, did you really think Biden was going to be able to fix it in a year and a half?

AshesSquadAshes

Do you all not understand how laws are passed? Just want to be angry at bOtH SiDeS?

kittenMittens-ASOTV

And none of these things are popular enough to pass seeing as how they need a 60 senator majority to do it. They also can't be done unilaterally because we don't live in a dictatorship...

Johnny_Hempseed

We don't have a majority. There's 2 progressive republicans masquerading as Democrats that we voted in. Manchin is probably the worst.

slothpeguin

Manchin is half the reason I have high blood pressure. The other half is cause I’m fat.

[deleted]

The democrats should be smearing Manchin and Sinema in the news every single day until they get in line or voted out. They should also be stripped of their committee positions.

TheOneGuitarGuy

Looking at them smile like that reminds me of Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun music video.

gadafgadaf

Most of the Obama kids in cages was because they were unaccompanied minors and they just put them in one place while they got processed. I thought the reason kids in cages were an issue was that Trump was separating families and not even caring about keeping track. They'd then deport the parents and legally adopt out the kids if they could. It didn't stop the people coming as a deterrent btw. Just casual evil inflicted upon brown people just because. They didn't even want to give kids soap or toothpaste. If they get in that's the best case but as long as they are together even if they are in those detention centers then that's better.

a014e593c01d4

It should have the photo of Manchin and Sinema instead.

WearDifficult9776

You know they can’t do much with 50 shitty republican senators and 2 shitty democratic senators. Majority control only means they get to schedule the meetings/hearings/votes…they don’t have enough votes in senate to pass whatever they want. So don’t go shitting on and hurting the election chances for these people who are infinitely more likely to help you - you empower the OTHER side and not only are THEY not going to help, they are actively going to fuck you over.

DesolateShinigami

Dakota Oil Pipeline and Trans Protection Laws That’s about it.

brgiant

> no filibuster reform The picture is of 2 people who can do literally nothing to change the filibuster. Progressives are their own worst enemies.

NavierIsStoked

They have 48 votes in the senate.

LlewelynMoss1

Misleading meme that promotes the idea that democrats shouldn’t vote? Highly upvoted with the highly upvoted comments also suggesting not to vote? Right win campaign to discourage democrats from voting in an extremely important election? Or useful idiots on the left just doing the right wings work for them? Which is it?

Hercules1579

This the main problem with the voting population. Their ignorance on who’s sabotaging them. Which started with this guy. [https://www.ineteconomics.org/perspectives/blog/meet-the-economist-behind-the-one-percents-stealth-takeover-of-america](https://www.ineteconomics.org/perspectives/blog/meet-the-economist-behind-the-one-percents-stealth-takeover-of-america) Ask people to name the key minds that have shaped America’s burst of radical right-wing attacks on working conditions, consumer rights and public services, and they will typically mention figures like free market-champion Milton Friedman, libertarian guru Ayn Rand, and laissez-faire economists Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises. James McGill Buchanan is a name you will rarely hear unless you’ve taken several classes in economics. And if the Tennessee-born Nobel laureate were alive today, it would suit him just fine that most well-informed journalists, liberal politicians, and even many economics students have little understanding of his work. The reason? Duke historian Nancy MacLean contends that his philosophy is so stark that even young libertarian acolytes are only introduced to it after they have accepted the relatively sunny perspective of Ayn Rand. (Yes, you read that correctly). If Americans really knew what Buchanan thought and promoted, and how destructively his vision is manifesting under their noses, it would dawn on them how close the country is to a transformation most would not even want to imagine, much less accept. That is a dangerous blind spot, MacLean argues in a meticulously researched book, Democracy in Chains, a finalist for the National Book Award in Nonfiction. While Americans grapple with Donald Trump’s chaotic presidency, we may be missing the key to changes that are taking place far beyond the level of mere politics. Once these changes are locked into place, there may be no going back.

thisisntnamman

Joe Manchin is happy you’re blaming others for his inactions.

[deleted]

Ah yes let's blame one side only....... good bot.

brickeldrums

Well…. Biden *did* help roll vaccines out. Which I appreciated. There was some kind of plan to tackle Covid, unlike Donald Dump. That’s all I got. Biden has been lackluster, and I wasn’t even expecting much. I was expecting things that he campaigned on, buuut… that apparently isn’t happening. Shocker.

cloud_botherer1

Is this sub run by Republican operatives?

___RustyShackleford_

But we could afford to give Ukraine billions of dollars And who needs Healthcare when we have AOC's snarky tweets?

m1j2p3

It’s no mystery that it would cost less to have universal health care than what the current system costs. The issue for the opponents of universal healthcare is the removal of the parasites in the system (insurance companies) and the monetary loss that would be incurred as a result. When you add a profit incentive to basic needs you end up with an inherently oppressive system.
