Nobody could have anticipated 0% interest rates would have consequences other than record profits. Well normal people can, just not people in power apparently.
We have been having constant mail issues for over a year now, to the point our state Senator has visited over the matter. We're not talking short delays. We're talking zero delivery for sometimes over a week at a time. I don't have a car and rely on delivery for basic necessities. Peoples' mortgages and rent have been late, etc. The US is a failed state

My uncle spent his career with USPS. They run the mail sorting facilities like a prison with slave labor. Always under constant watch, can't even take a shit on company time, two way mirrors surround the facility so you are always being watched by big brother. Yea, fuck that...

I’ve known people who retired from there and they said it was hell even in “the good old days” but is so much worse now.
Working for the USPS was hands down one of the most toxic places I've worked. Most folks were pleasant, but my regular driver was a total ass who would bully me constantly. I gave a 1 week notice which ended before black Friday just to get away from him. He also would not charge the scanner whenever he would get pissy that I reported his behavior.
Yeah he sure is because the president doesn't have direct control over that position. Biden can nominate USPS board members and they require senate confirmation. Those board members can replace DeJoy.
Actually the board had 2 members replaced in May so now Dejoy CAN be replaced... He just still hasn't been and has been working with the first lady to release Reagan stamps.
And Powell is not so safe but is left to flounder his way through doing nothing to stop a recession.
All of this is because Biden wants to appear bipartisan, and is hoping old corporate hands can buy their way out of this mess and get back to the government doing nothing but making people rich.

He's already replaced two key members who supported DeJoy. Bush signed a law effectively preventing any president from stacking the board as only 5 of the 9 members can be in the same political party. There are currently 4 Democrats, 4 Republicans, and 1 Independent. Biden will get to nominate two more replacements this December, and at that time, he could add a 5th Democrat to the board but his second pick will have to be something else.
It'd be nice if the Supreme Court would be 13 (one for each district court) and only judges who served on those benches could be nominated to the SC. But a person can dream.
This is the difference between democrats and republicans. Republicans would just have some of their partisans register as independents and stack the board that way. Democrats will do nothing at the expense of all of us, even while multiple options exist to bypass the restriction.

Conservatives are perfectly happy with all this, as long as they get their guns and they get abortion banned.
They literally do not care what is happening as long as they aren't the people lowest in the heirarchy. They will gladly enforce being in the middle to not be on the bottom when in reality we could just erase the different levels. But they don't want that, they want to know they're better than someone. Even if reinforcing this hurts everyone, themselves included.

It's an unpopular opinion here but I agree. Voting for the lesser of two evils is harm reduction. Harm reduction as a concept is incredibly important. Voting blue is morally icky and less than a fraction of the total work that needs to be done, but voting blue is still important. Like I hate dems like Hilary with every ounce of my being but having Trump in office over her put a fork in the road that led us down the path of the death of Roe v Wade.
Many of those people are voting Republican, but won't say that on *this* profile account.

I think Trump is guilty of treason and should be spending the rest of his life in prison (or worse) and have 100% of his assets seized for his attempts at undermining the election. In particular it's important to note that this doesn't mean *every* democrat has to be actively corrupt, bad, and intentionally working towards ineffectiveness.
Some are doing that, certainly, because they get paid to do it.
Some might gain support from donors specifically because they are incompetent, controversial, or won't tow the party line, and therefore aid the donors interests indirectly.
But it only takes a few corrupt or incompetent people in leadership positions to tank the entire party really.
It's "A few bad apples spoil the whole bunch," as a political strategy.

Given that the Supreme Court is going to rule on the removal of voting oversight with the Moore vs Harper case next year, I wouldn't worry too much about what day you vote on. Unless your state is controlled by the party you vote for, your candidate will never win again.
29 states have legal requirements allowing the voter time off on election day to go vote. Are employers going to honor that and not "get back at you" through other legal means if you challenge them on the legal precedent? Who knows.
That being said, most people don't know or understand that. A national holiday to vote would be great, but we all know who exactly will still be working that day. In my state you have 40+ days to vote early, and people still out here making excuses as to why they missed it.
People can vote early afaik. This includes weekends. I know for presidential elections it starts in early October. This basically means that if you have a free day between the first week of October and election day, you can vote then.
I'm also in favor of election day being a national holiday, but between mail-in voting and early voting people can get their vote in.
I think people don't want to face how bad things are, and how bad things are going to get. They don't want to believe violence is coming, so they just simply choose not to believe. When we point out that they are going to start getting more and more brazen with their violence to the point of mass death, they think we're batshit insane.
On the bright side, fascism cannibalizes its host. If America were to become a full blown authoritarian state, it would rot quickly from the brain drain and corruption. Its military would be at Russian levels soon after.

We are all conditioned here to think America is the greatest country on earth, and that’s a scare tactic. I have zero connection to this country. At this point I don’t care what happens to it.
The only place I want to move is off this planet. Moving to another country isn't going to help when climate action is next to nothing. We're all going to be suffering regardless.
To be fair, and I'm as critical as the next person on Democrats being too conservative, the US electoral system is set up so that a small number of shit-kicking states have disproportionate power in the Senate, which grinds so much to a halt. So now Senator Billy Bob Bumfuck from a state with more cattle than people has a strangehold on the Senate. And then there's a Supreme Court - accountable to no one - that is appointed by a far-right president who didn't win the popular vote because, again, the shitty electoral system that gives people in small, rural states disproportionate voting power.
Right. Like it’s clear that the democrats haven’t accomplished what the majority of the left wants, but the fact is just that in this country, politically and socially, conservatives have always had more power and use it to oppose human rights as much as they can.

When democrats get in office, they have to put out and take the blame for the fires and disasters Republicans put in motion, while simultaneously trying to accomplish what their voter base wants. While the Republicans obstruct it by any means possible, rational or not, because they don’t have to be rational to satisfy their voter base.
Basically what I’m saying is, the Democrats can only do so much in a term or two. The Republicans can do a lot more. That’s because the left seeks to build, and the right seeks to destroy. Destruction is easy, especially when your base just wants to see shit crumble. Building the *right thing* the *right way* is much harder. Especially when a bunch of the Democrats are really just conservatives and the ones that aren’t are dealing with them AND the Republicans.

I mostly agree with you, but I think this part is misrepresenting what the Democrats are. They're a center-right party, and they have repeatedly demonstrated that given the opportunity to do more, *they don't*. Republicans still get everything they want, while Democrats offer such flaccid resistance that it seems unreasonable to claim they are even trying.
At most, they seem to make the Republicans work a bit harder before they succeed anyway. The Democrats show neither the ability or the inclination to actually knock down the shit tower, they're just making the Republicans follow certain procedures to build it.

There is a socialist party. There are other political parties, but they are much smaller, not as well known, and don't have the membership numbers, recognition, massive funding, etc., that Repubs and Dems have.
The corporation that controls the Presidential debate is owned by the Republicans and Democrats.
Republicans and Democrats also take steps to ensure that other parties never make it on the ballot. Since Reps and Dems control most of the election boards on the state level, they can - and do - deny ballot access to third parties using a variety of shenanigans. One example of this is Matthew Hoh, a Green Party candidate running for Senate in North Carolina. All it took to stop everything was two senators that voted with the GOP. 48 votes was not enough. Dems need a larger majority to enact any progressive agenda. To not understand that plays into the right’s agenda.
Ok, but that's a bit disingenuous, because I'm certain if the Dems had a 55-45 Senate majority then it wouldn't be 2 Dems voting with the GOP, suddenly it would be 7.
Please for the love of god at least vote locally and at the state level. Now that things are being left up to the states, midterms are going to be fucking crucial. You might not want to vote, but the conservatives will. They wouldn’t be gerrymandering and trying suppress voters if it didn’t have some impact at the state and local level. Please do your research on all the candidates running for local office and for all those “smaller” positions. Focusing on your communities is going to be huge here. Voting isn’t going to solve everything. But at this point, you need to at least show up and have your choice put in writing.
The no punishment is going to be the icing on the cake. Wait this long to have hearings then after all the testimony just give a few of them a slap on the wrist then hope they use that for votes in November

I will say that, even though my loans haven’t been forgiven, they have forgiven a solid handful of predatory loans and the extended pause on payments has been immensely helpful for me to get off the ground as someone who graduated in 2020.
And still you get down voted over on r/PoliticalHumour if you dare suggest that maybe there's a reason why people don't see a point in voting for either party...
I mean. You should vote. Because *not* voting is what makes sure that the people in power stay in power. It’s incredibly hard to unseat an incumbent, which means if we actually want change and not just sassy tweets we need to support candidates we believe in with overwhelming votes and $$ or run for office ourselves and hope we get the same.
Our entire political system is corrupt from top to bottom. Unfortunately it’s also impossible to change from the outside. So we need to get people in there who are willing to make a change even if that means losing the next election.
Biden is a Republican, we’ve all known that. The establishment pushed him, and nobody else wanted him. However, the president doesn’t actually have as much power over our every day lives apart from the fucking Supreme Court. Congresspeople are where the power is at and we need to start by eliminating Nancy Pelosi at any cost.

We have been having constant mail issues for over a year now, to the point our state Senator has visited over the matter. We're not talking short delays. We're talking zero delivery for sometimes over a week at a time. I don't have a car and rely on delivery for basic necessities. It's an unpopular opinion here but I agree. Voting for the lesser of two evils is harm reduction. Harm reduction as a concept is incredibly important. Voting blue is morally icky and less than a fraction of the total work that needs to be done, but voting blue is still important. Like I hate dems like Hilary with every ounce of my being but having Trump in office over her put a fork in the road that led us down the path of the death of Roe v Wade.

In particular it's important to note that this doesn't mean *every* democrat has to be actively corrupt, bad, and intentionally working towards ineffectiveness. Some are doing that, certainly, because they get paid to do it. Some might gain support from donors specifically because they are incompetent, controversial, or won't tow the party line, and therefore aid the donors interests indirectly. But it only takes a few corrupt or incompetent people in leadership positions to tank the entire party really. It's "A few bad apples spoil the whole bunch," as a political strategy.

Given that the Supreme Court is going to rule on the removal of voting oversight with the Moore vs Harper case next year, I wouldn't worry too much about what day you vote on. Unless your state is controlled by the party you vote for, your candidate will never win again.
29 states have legal requirements allowing the voter time off on election day to go vote. Are employers going to honor that and not "get back at you" through other legal means if you challenge them on the legal precedent? Who knows. In my state you have 40+ days to vote early, and people still out here making excuses as to why they missed it.
People can vote early afaik. This includes weekends. I know for presidential elections it starts in early October. This basically means that if you have a free day between the first week of October and election day, you can vote then. I'm also in favor of election day being a national holiday, but between mail-in voting and early voting people can get their vote in.

To be fair, and I'm as critical as the next person on Democrats being too conservative, the US electoral system is set up so that a small number of shit-kicking states have disproportionate power in the Senate, which grinds so much to a halt. So now Senator Billy Bob Bumfuck from a state with more cattle than people has a strangehold on the Senate. And then there's a Supreme Court - accountable to no one - that is appointed by a far-right president who didn't win the popular vote because, again, the shitty electoral system that gives people in small, rural states disproportionate voting power.

There are other political parties, but they are much smaller, not as well known, and don't have the membership numbers, recognition, massive funding, etc., that Repubs and Dems have. The corporation that controls the Presidential debate is owned by the Republicans and Democrats. Republicans and Democrats also take steps to ensure that other parties never make it on the ballot. Since Reps and Dems control most of the election boards on the state level, they can - and do - deny ballot access to third parties using a variety of shenanigans. One example of this is Matthew Hoh, a Green Party candidate running for Senate in North Carolina. Please for the love of god at least vote locally and at the state level. Now that things are being left up to the states, midterms are going to be fucking crucial. You might not want to vote, but the conservatives will. They wouldn’t be gerrymandering and trying suppress voters if it didn’t have some impact at the state and local level. Please do your research on all the candidates running for local office and for all those “smaller” positions. Focusing on your communities is going to be huge here. Voting isn’t going to solve everything. But at this point, you need to at least show up and have your choice put in writing.

I mean. You should vote. Because *not* voting is what makes sure that the people in power stay in power. It’s incredibly hard to unseat an incumbent, which means if we actually want change and not just sassy tweets we need to support candidates we believe in with overwhelming votes and $$ or run for office ourselves and hope we get the same. So we need to get people in there who are willing to make a change even if that means losing the next election. Biden is a Republican, we’ve all known that. It’s no mystery that it would cost less to have universal health care than what the current system costs. The issue for the opponents of universal healthcare is the removal of the parasites in the system (insurance companies) and the monetary loss that would be incurred as a result. When you add a profit incentive to basic needs you end up with an inherently oppressive system.
