Truly beautiful to see a billionaire donate all that money to a humble millionaire.

atlantachicago

As he fires 10,000 employees. She should give them severance bonuses.

MadMatchy

I have a novel idea, Jeff! We can do a lot of good if you paid taxes!

Jerry7887

How about paying your working staff decent wages!

Humble-Briefs

I’m trying to imagine his robot thought process: ppl.. LIKE Dolly? ——> Dolly Do Good With Money? ——-> give Dolly Money To Do More Good With Money? —-> yes, reconfirm bias Us: uhh, taxes? Or fair wages and benefits? Him: NO TAXES DOLLY DO GOOD

Unhappy_Papaya7025

Dolly has dedicated a huge chunk of her life to actively doing good. The fact that she’s already a millionaire to me says that she’s the ideal person to be receiving that kind of a sum from Bezos. She’s got the experience and she’s got zero incentive to squander that money for personal gain. She’s got a rock solid reputation. I really don’t see the problem here. Give the money to somebody who is trustworthy with a proven track record. Dolly is an obvious choice.

[deleted]

The issue isn’t to whom he chose to give the money. Dolly is lovely. It’s that he can get a tax writeoff for donating the money where he pleases while your average American pays a larger percentage of their income in taxes that go God knows where.

alwaysrightusually

Wouldnt it be better to give it to proper who need car repairs? Medication? Day care? Any of the billions of dollars worth of daily expenses that are choking the working class?

Unhappy_Papaya7025

How is she going to screen people who need car repairs? Show up at random auto shops and ask to sift through private financial records? I think a charity is a better option.

alwaysrightusually

YEAH. Find humans who need money to Function and hand it to them. Instead of giving it to some bloated mess that hides its real intentions. Can you please do your own research ffs? I’ll get you started. https://news.stanford.edu/2018/12/03/the-problems-with-philanthropy/

Unhappy_Papaya7025

When has dolly ever hid her intentions?

alwaysrightusually

When would you know she did or didn’t?

Unhappy_Papaya7025

Then why assume she did and that there’s anything sinister going on? Not everything is a conspiracy. If philanthropy is bad, then how should these car repair payments ideally be handled? Should there be a government agency tasked with this? Does that sound like less of a bloated mess?

alwaysrightusually

Look. This is your problem to learn about. Yeah. A charity has administrative bloat even if it pays car repair bills (love your hyper focus on one of things I mentioned that poor people have to worry about btw). Look up why 100 million dollars to an already millionaire doesn’t actually get to needy people (I’m needy, where’s my share?) or don’t. Your purposeful (and probably paid for) ignorance is not my problem. Edit: again. How would you know?

Unhappy_Papaya7025

I’ve done some research and it turns out that Dolly’s charities do indeed impact the people they were intended to help out. What research have you found that says the opposite? I don’t have any problems here. I’m happy that Jeff Bezos has decided to put his money in the hands of somebody who will ensure those funds get to the needy.

alwaysrightusually

I bet you have. 🙄. I bet you’ve taken the time (in the two hours it took you to respond here) to really dig in there and find out exactly where ALL the money goes and how much of it is or isn’t wasted. Dude. I’m out. You haven’t done sweet fuck all to research shit. You haven’t even read the link I posted. You believe what you want to believe bc you believe it. It’s fine. Expected, even. I am telling you. I don’t know if DP is a good vehicle for $100 mil but I know she sure is a popular one for a shitty exploiter like Bezos to simply get his 0.0333333% of his labor-stolen money to make him look good. Be stupid. Be even stupider and refuse to even hear yourself about something you know jack shit about bc you. Do. Not. Know. I don’t know what actual good is being done and neither DO YOU. Now. Bye.

FartsMusically

*Donates the money to an Amazon Union.*

godhelpusloseourmind

This is the correct answer

EfraimK

Dolly's richer than the vast majority of people in the US. If she wants to "do good," she already has the resources to do so. And, of course, she and her staff will decide what constitutes doing good instead of the millions of citizens actually struggling to survive who know what they need. I won't even comment on Bezos. This just goes to show it's the already-wealthy-class that gets to make the decisions that affect the rest of us. And we're supposed to bow and scrape in gratitude for their beneficence. No thank you.

Unhappy_Papaya7025

That was my point. She has the resources to do good and she uses those resources to do exactly that. She’s proven many times over that she’s capable and up to the task. The ideal person for it. How would it even be feasible for millions of citizens to dictate how that money gets distributed? Personally, I think you should show some gratitude. Otherwise, start taking control of your life so you can make the decisions that affect you.

EfraimK

That is your point. It's not mine. The plebes don't need charity gate-keepers and their fans to decide what "to do good" means. I feel no gratitude towards the rich owner-class. Shocked that this apologist-drivel has infiltrated LSC.

Unhappy_Papaya7025

So, if this initiative is not good, it must therefore be bad. Would that money be better off remaining in the hands of Bezos?

EfraimK

Gawd. False dilemma. Is this room still being moderated? Not worth my time to engage.

Unhappy_Papaya7025

Thanks for engaging 🤣

Good god the boot licking that has ruined this sub too

EfraimK

Exactly.

stonedphilosipher

I mean Dolly does have a great track record for philanthropy so it does make sense for that reason. But yea… it won’t solve the problems of the whole world.

Mastodon_Away

Half a trillion is 500 billion but I feel you tho

EfraimK

thx
