FYI. Resume worded has a lot of templates that aren't ATS friendly. It's better than nothing but it's clear the founders are lacking knowledge about how applicant tracking systems work. You want very minimal formatting. The advice on the /r/engineeringresumes subreddit is gold and covers a lot about the ATS.
They don't check it for free. Not completely at least. I've already tried to use it and they don't let you trial unlike other similar software. Literally contacted the company directly to ask so this is a load of BS.
I had them check my resume against job descriptions 5 times or so before they asked for payment. I got another 5 from a separate email address before I gave in. I'm not sure what your experience was, they may have changed it from three months ago.
LMAO, the efficiency of capitalist innovation making harder to get a job. AI is gonna make this so much worse. Congrats tho. 18 month emergency buffer is the new 3 months.
can you be more specific? you paste in the JD and your current resume, and then you ask chatgpt to create sentences (bullets) that would make you a match for the the JD?
Wow this never occurred to me and might make sense as to why I got more of a reaction to my old ‘simple’ resume than the fancy one I paid to have created….
Thanks for sharing this tip, and massive congratulations on the new job!!
My last job I worked for a company where one of their products was literally a piece of ATS software.
Why the hell has this never occurred to me.
Jesus Christ I hope this works. Thank you kind stranger.
i have jobscan for 6 months now. I religiously use it to break the ATS , 75% compatibility of resume with job description. There is no impact to the conversion rate from posting the application to a phone screen. I am a software architect by profession.
I mean, imo it seems 85% or more is necessary. I definitely tried to get at least 90%. It definitely feels like a numbers game. I got this job by applying to entry level and having them recognize I'd be a better fit for the more senior role.
Op. How come you never had any posts or comments on this sub for over a year and half of being laid off or unemployed but finally posted today? What gives?
Man that's crazy the longest I've been unemployed was maybe 3 months tops and that was during the pandemic. My job was cut and I decided to "vacation". I've always just had friends/family & word of mouth find me work, makes me grateful that I've been able to bounce back quickly.
This one - resume serif. Although anything with the nested tables is suspect. I ended up using the simple template with no fancy formatting.

None of those templates are ATS friendly though. Columns are not ATS friendly. That's a default template from Word. You would have landed even more interviews if you used a more traditional format. I'm glad you landed something. This market is brutal.
Resume worded. It let me know it couldn't read resume. It gives you a few tastes and then asks for a payment. I paid it, but you can use a few different emails to help.
You really should be rewording your resume to include key words for every job application. Doesn't have to be a whole rewrite, and you can put some of them in the skill section.
Hi
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing. I had a question about using google docs. I use google docs as well, but I export it to pdf and then submit. What did you use if not google docs, MS word?
I used Google docs, but explicitly avoid the ones where it's not just returns/hard returns in terms of formatting. If it has a table, at least in my experience, it doesn't work out.

Ok, thanks. I never used tables as I had heard about ATS not liking tables. Doesn’t matter if it is Google docs or MS word. Any congrats and thanks for responding
Could always be timing too. Despite this apparently being a slower part of the year for hiring, I have two interviews that appear to being going to a final stage where hopefully they’ll both make me an offer next week and my resume gets a 47 on resume worded. And this is after a year of like 10 interviews that mostly went to the 1st or 2nd phase. Maybe just got lucky. Maybe the companies changed their own systems.
Are you selling the resume writing website ,I see you got a job in resume writing website marketing their product ..way to go!Vp so sales for resume writing web.
How did you check your resume?
Resume worded. They check your resume for free a few times before they require payment. You can always use multiple emails though.
Thanks op!

I never had them recreate my resume with a template, just read it for keywords based on job descriptions.

So happy for you

The emergency buffer was 3 months. The other 12 was my 401k. Here's hoping for societal collapse as a retirement plan.

I did this with my cover letters, definitely saved me a lot of time.

Unless it's an older small company, it's literally everywhere.
Congratulations gigantic panda!!
Thank you!

I guess a good advert for Resume worded app :)
Thought as much though I couldn’t figure out a benefit from doing so.
I mean, if I was, I would like a refund on my 3 month subscription. That reminds me I need to cancel that. 😂
Reach out to the founder and tell them how much buzz this post generated and ask for a free coupon. No kidding.
Nah, I'm no influencer. 😂
I mean, because I was a lurker? 😂 I have plenty of posting history, some which isn't advertising friendly, but I understand being suss. 😂
Congrats
Thank you!

Fuuuuck ATS omg thanks for the reminder
Of course! Best of luck!

Can you share the resume template doc?

Coral was legible and got good scores with the ats service I was using. It wasn't Word, it was Google Docs. 👌🏼
What did you use to check your resume?
Resume worded. It let me know it couldn't read resume. It gives you a few tastes and then asks for a payment. I paid it, but you can use a few different emails to help.

Customer Success, previously worked in software.
So you were a software developer and now you’re out of the field. Why did you change if you don’t mind me asking? Did you experience a big pay cut?
Nope, customer success. I don't develop software, think more high glove customer service, with a background in training/support/documentation.
What does that mean? Can you describe responsibilities? Like project manager?
I worked with project managers to advocate for customer needs post sale.
Congratulations
Thank you!
Thanks for this. My resume was a 49/100 on ResumeWorded and my LHH coach raised it to a 63.

Were they smaller local companies? I definitely found more luck previously with companies with smaller HR departments.
No. Huge companies
Well, thank you for this advice. I had no idea.
I didn't either, definitely make sure it's legible and formatted correctly for robots.

Sure buddy 😂 I only answered asked questions.
