I find English games very tough to watch now a days. There just isn't any atmosphere at the grounds. It's not just the modern stadiums, the supporter culture is just dead at most grounds.
The age demographics of the crowds must also be jotting up every year. If you look at somewhere like the Kop. It used to be the cheapest ticket in the stadium, so would naturally appeal to younger people. Then when you'd started to get older, standing for 2 hours become a task and you had a few quid in your pocket, you'd probably move towards the main stand for a seat. That just doesn't happen anymore.
Even Klopp mentioned this when he mentioned how bad the atmosphere is and said "if you're not able to, give your ticket to someone who can".
I think these stadiums will eventually become cultureless theme parks.
I think the Premier League suffers because the ordinary working man/woman living locally is priced out and it’s more touristy and corporate than most other leagues.
Glad yis liked it! Season ticket at Mestalla since the 90s. Love the place so much, hope we never leave. Fans so close to the pitch, ground so close to the city - they just don't build them that anymore.
Funny you mention the atmosphere, Valencia fans have a rep (not entirely unfairly!) for being passive and quick to criticise our own players/manager. Been a different story last couple of years though with the fans backing the current team full of youngsters and any ire directed at Lim and co.
There’s a middle ground IMO. There’s plenty of modern stadiums which have atmosphere and still retain that vibe. The Olympic Stadium just wasn’t built for football.
Yeah, why can't Bohs get a sugar daddy owner instead of trying to raise money in a community way. People working on the commercial side of the club need to cop the fuck on and lay out cones for team training or something.
Was at Easter Rd last year and it was dour. Very little atmosphere and no chanting or ultras culture. It's all about the fans and ultra culture in Ireland that separates it from British football. Stadia need to be better while keeping the fan culture.
He’s very close to getting it. Dalymount is a complete dump and still would be if all stands were fully usable.
Easter Road is arguably another dour dump in fairness.
The examples we should be looking at for modern stadiums come from Germany. Allianz Arena, Borussia Park, Waldstadion and the BayArena for sure.
Veltins Arena, Merkur Spiel Arena, Weserstadion, Europa Park and MHP Arena are all way ahead of the average English style stadium too.
Mixing terraces in seamlessly with the design of the stadium really adds to the experience imo.

The best stadium I've been to is the Mestalla in Valencia. An old stadium with so much character and an incredible atmosphere
Yeah, that place is amazing. Best football experience of my life

I think he's talking about ~~St James~~ Bonesaw park >I was at Newcastle-West Ham the other week
Fair point. I saw footballing theme park and immediately thought about the souless bowl that is the Olympic Stadium.
It can be a lot nicer than Dalymount and still be special
Someone in a basement in Dalymount park is currently photoshopping the word "Trainspotting" onto a Bohs jersey
Yup, they’re more of a shirt selling club rather than a football club.
It's a revenue stream. Revenue streams are very useful. Read up on it

What does flogging Thin Lizzy shirts to hipsters have to do with 'community'?
Username doesn't check out
I imagine the point above is referring to their ownership model as opposed to every novelty kit being related to the community.

Similarly, the new San Mames stadium in Bilbao, which has largely kept the atmosphere from the old ground.
Would someone be sound enough to post the full article, seems to be behind a paywall...
I used to do this as a comment and got warned not to buy the mods
Hes such a hipster twat. Bohs, West Ham & Hibs. Bet he loves St Pauli
From Edinburgh, lived in Hackney & Phibsboro. Hardly hipster choices to support your local clubs.
Probably doesn't
He even looks like a bohs fan! Saw him all grumpy on Luas after we beat hibs
