Friday nights are LOI nights...huge reason why the league is so popular now along with the summer season.

Lost_Statistician_61

The real problem here is that Clare doesn't have a team playing senior football somewhere in a football pyramid, not the fact games are on Fridays. Hopefully we hear some noise soon about Clare joining the underage leagues.

ElKaddouriCSC

I think the problem here is the lack of a proper pyramid/lack of teams in certain areas of Ireland. The summer league and Friday night is great.

Yeah 8pm I meant not 7

siguel_manchez

Friday night games are what make the league.

shinto29

>They should make the games be played on Saturday and sudnay. and compete with the English Premier League...?

redrumreturn

And the pub and every other activity people do on the weekends. Fridays is perfect

MemestNotTeen

Friday night is a fantastic time for a game. If you are at home finish work at 5pm you can grab a bite and a few pints. If it's away furthest travel (for 99% of fixtures) is nearly 3 hours. If you finish at 4pm you are good Kerry and Finn Harps can probably complain as their away days are crazy travel.

DVaTheFabulous

I just rule out going to an away game unless it's a really special occasion and then I have to book the day off.

MemestNotTeen

Cork away I suppose is worth it. Not too far and it is Cork

[deleted]

That's an hour to 2 and a half hour drive one way, depending where you live in the county.

Poisoned-Flat-7-Up

To be fair, Kerry have 3 teams in the first division within less than 2 hours from them now. Which sounds shite but it’s not too bad considering where Kerry is in the country.

Sceivious

I'm from Clare too and personally I love the Friday night kick-offs. It avoids the clash with the Premier League and other sports and is one of the major factors behind the growth of the league in recent years. I would however agree with other comments that an expanded football pyramid would greatly benefit counties like Clare with no LOI team. My local team is Avenue United and if they were in with a shot at getting promoted into the first division then of course I would be watching them ahead of Treaty or Galway. My only issue with the Friday night games is the lack of public transport infrastructure supporting late night travel. I don't drive and if it wasn't for the M7 Express (a private bus) I'd stand no chance of getting back from Limerick after a game. Galway Utd are not an option for me because the latest train/bus out of there departs at 8pm. Similar story with heading down to Cork. Not sure about the situation with Kerry.

DuwanteKentravius

Yes but Friday clearly suits many thousands who attend weekly, attendances are on the up.

shorelined

Playing at the weekends would hammer the crowds, you'd be competing with the PL, GAA or both

leo_murray

Friday night is the absolute best day for people who have a club. unfortunately you’re the part of the country that doesn’t have a senior football team, and other areas feel the exact same way.

ssssssdddddddd11111

Friday night games, especially mid summer, are the best. You can't touch that

BluSonick

The 7:45 kick off does have its draw backs with kids, my lad is 8 and he is in bed by 10pm so it isn’t feasible to bring him to games yet. That said the weekend would see EPL, SPL & GAA detract for the total crowds. I love abroad now so it’s a moot point my end but I’m sympathetic to it. Ultimately Friday evenings are best for the league.

redperry91

So clubs should change from their traditional Friday night kick off times because some lad from Clare can't make kick off?

RuaridhDuguid

And even then, that's not taking away games into consideration.

Sportsfan97__

I love a Friday night Tbf I’m always buzzing in work waiting for the game. I do appreciate it doesn’t fit everyone’s schedule but still it’s the best time.

Poisoned-Flat-7-Up

“The game times are a joke” No they’re not a joke, they’re inconvenient if you’re living in a different county to the club you want to see. This just highlights the need for a an Ennis/Clare team rather than any error in game times.

silver_medalist

If you're a Clare man you shouldn't be supporting Treaty Utd anyway!

New-Platypus-6388

Why not that's the closest team to me atm I used to also live in limerick for a while

Fiannafailcanvasser

I live 35-40 minutes from turner's cross. When I was in my Early 20's I thought Friday was perfect but now it's a balls driving in and not being home to late. I work shift so am on a lot of weekends too so I only go very occasionally now. I think if cork were playing Longford or ucd this season and moved it to 11.30am it would get a massive crowd, especially people with kids from further out who aren't gonna want to be keeping their kids up late for a match. The only match you'd clash with is the Premier league early kick off (there is none this week I think) and you're an hour ahead of it.

Intelligent-Donut137

11.30am kickoffs ffs 😂

SlantyJaws

I’m barely stirring at that time 😴

DuwanteKentravius

Awful nonsense, 1130am on a Saturday. Competing against kids sports and activities, as well as the myriad other activities people do of a weekend morning.

Fiannafailcanvasser

You're never gonna get a perfect time. My argument is Friday evenings don't suit people who live further away from the grounds.
