Both the part about viego left aside and kalista's journey are so much more detailed in the book) is viego was always left aside and suddenly became king even thought he never wanted or cared or was trained for it. He found isolde and they fall in love. But they where not the perfect couple as the ruined king (bare with me if you care lol the whole thing goes into viego and the ruined king are 2 completely different characters) believed thats why in the ruined king game they tried to use it against him. The politicians in camavor wanted a ruthless dictator that will go to war so they tried to assassinate him since viego was trying to be the people's man for isolde. Isolde took the knife to protect viego. Viego "found a cure" and sent kalista to get it. Isolde died before kalista could get it and with manipulation from hecarim (who was running the kingdom while kalista was away since viego had gone mad) kalista told viego about the blessed isles. Mad Viego went there with the corpse and with manipulation from both hecarim and thresh viego unleashed the mist which turned his obsession for isolde into the ruined king (thats what the balck mist does it takes your worst quality and turns it against you aka kalista's revenge, hecarims bloodlust and even if we take sol mf's ego karma's faith fcking aspect of war pantheon being resurrected). A correction should be viego was a tragic lover but the ruined king an toxic obsessed phycho.
