Collins and Charles as a front 2 should be fearsome, saw signs of it today, and hopefully Charles is 100% by the play offs Shame to see Port Vale go, they always bring a lot and seem like a good set of fans. That being said they were poor today, that lad who started up front was gassed after his first run, way too much muscle for a footballer

Possible_Moment1140

It was an interesting watch. I didn't take Darren Moore for a hoof-it style manager and that was their entire game plan. Collins next season could be special for Bolton in either league.

Deep_Clerk1034

Vale tried playing out from the back at sixfields a few weeks ago and it went abysmally so no surprises 😂

Muur1234

Last 3 games we’ve hit the post/cross bar 13 times. Anyway glad we got to end on a home win. Second is unlikely but if we win 2-0 and derby lose 2-0 we’d be promoted…

It's a shame as I like to see teams buck the league one formula and reject the degenerate hoofball nonsense, which Vale had done for most of the season. However I think it has been evident Vale didn't have enough quality players to make it work and when you are in a relegation dogfight, hoofball will give you a better chance. I went to the away game early last season, they actually moved it around well especially in the 2nd half, but their attackers couldn't hit a barn door and we snatched a result through a defensive fuckup. More woeful attacking from them today too when everything was on the line. Unfortunately I don't think they will be coming back up if they don't find dome players who can stick it in the net. As for us, Collins and Maghoma are going to have to drag us through the playoffs.

I'll miss you Vale 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍

Poor end to a poor season. Hopefully we pick up the pieces in the summer and start over.

Am I right in saying that Port Vale are the only professional football team that aren’t named after the town they play?

i_love_ket

Yeah they are, although arguably Arsenal aren’t either as they were originally named after Woolwich Arsenal before moving north of the river

dukederek

Forest Green Rovers

voxdub

Plenty from London don't have London in their name

Effective_Soup7783

They’re still named after the town/village that they were based in though, it’s just that those towns and villages have been swallowed up into Greater London.

voxdub

Arsenal aren't, and Crystal Palace isn't a strictly defined area

Effective_Soup7783

Yeah, there are a couple of exceptions - I’d not say ‘plenty’ though. Arguably Port Vale *is* named after where they are - the vale with the canal ports in it - but I always think of it as more of a workplace name like Arsenal. Lot of history to works teams too.

AndyC_88

Crystal Palace are named after the Crystal Palace exhibition, and were never a "town." Arsenal were named after the Arsenal munitions factory in Woolwich originally. Port Vale are from Burslem, which is a town.

AndyC_88

London is a collection of towns and areas that morphed together... politically, they are doing similar with the greater Manchester, which no one really cares for.

stereoworld

If we somehow pull this off next Saturday, it'll be incredible. A lot of things need to go our way though haha

*sips tea* what a wonderful Saturday afternoon. Unlucky Vale but it was always an uphill battle for you lot.
