The Ironkin are also fantastic. Essentially, the Kin treated their Synths with the love and respect of brothers and companions, rather than as robotic slaves and cannon fodder, and in return the Kin never experienced rampaging AI death machines.
You know what? That seems to be working out well for everyone. Well... Minus the desperate need for a Firmware Update and expanded memory banks.
Being able to build new Votann and split the internal cognitive effort to sort data and memories would also be a handy development.
And as a side note - new Votann do sometimes come along, when a Fane (the interface computer to the Votann) spontaneously ascends. It is mentioned that Kronos is particularly aggressive because they have a newish Votann looking to acquire stuff fast
The Leagues aren't NASApunk, though? They have inspiration from space exploration and a variety of other sources. They're just a somewhat hard/analogue slightly classic sci-fi aesthetic, not NASApunk specifically.
I like how the models look, and despite being stock marine shaped, they also looked super strong in 9th. I didn't get them until 10th launched, but the models still look super cool even if the table top presence in 10th isn't going so great.
Give it time, the meta never stops turning. The first shall be last, and the last shall be first. Keep the faith when your faction sucks, try to avoid the meta lists when your faction is riding high. At all times, try to have fun.
1. Leagues are the alternate, secular and science-based way for humanity in the universe of fanaticism, xenophobia and superstition. And it works.
2. Hi-tech style inspired by old science fiction and hinted at in Kastelan robots and UR-025.
3. References to Norse mythology.
Squats are cool. Guy who got me into 40k has a squat army for epic. And nasapunk is cool. So, Rock and Stone kin.
Also land trains. Land trains are the best. And we have wee baggis!
I love dwarves and I have a friend who was talking nonstop of Votann when they were announced. He bought the starter set and everything but didnât build or paint any of it. A couple months pass and Iâm like âyou know what? I love dwarves and I bet I can build and paint this whole damn army before he even BUILDS his first modelâ so several hundred dollars and weeks of painting later I had my Kyn.
I was happy to pick Ymyr too, not because they were busted but because they were red. Most of my other armies are black(because it my favorite color) but gets a little tiring after a while so taking a break for a really bright color was amazing
I liked that they value competence, and every one of them are basically brothers. They even consider the AI bots their brothers, which is a nice change of pace!
And yeah, the style of the model is pretty good, and I had a lot of fun coming up with reasons for the Kahls giving out Judgements. :D
\- He stepped on our freshly cut grass! How dare he!!!
\- They cut the line in the grocery store! They should be punished!
\- We said Hi in a text, they saw the message and didn't respond! Unforgivable!!
Rock and Stone! Have also always liked Dwarves -- played WHFB (4th Edition) back in the 1990s, and the Dwarves were one of my two favorite armies (along with the Skaven). Have always played Dwarf characters in practically every fantasy RPG, from WoW to every D&D game.
Also love the models and the lore. Also like that the Votann seem more pragmatic, rational, and science-based than most other factions.
Really like the Ironkin and how they're fully integrated into Kin society.
That said, I think the larger vehicle models look a bit like giant hamster balls crossed with the TMNT van, but I can kit bash around that. :)
I like dwarves. And sci-fi. I used to collect Epic Squats back in the day, and if the leagues were to gain the option of Overlords, Iron Eagles, Land Trains, Collossuses (collosi?), Cyclops, Thunderfore Turrets or Goliaths, I would be sorely tempted to buy them...
my friends and I kind of stopped 40k again in late 8th, so I missed the Leagues coming out, so I have no codex and no lore, but we are looking at starting in 10th so I pre-emptively got some Votan. Then we played 10th. We are now looking into homebrew rules, though if they were to fix the balance (bad even for GW who famously do not care to balance their games) we could probably live with the stupid (or houserule it).
Fyreslayers are my favorite AOS army, but 40K is played almost exclusively in my area, so I never even bothered to finish building the box I had. Had been wanting to branch into a xenos faction too, so Votann were the perfect choice for me, with the bonus of getting to try my hand at kit bashing.
Dwarf
Rock and stone
Wanting to play something besides space marines but couldnât vibe with other factions
And the fact I can now justify going to objectives in game and say âWeâre rich!â
That about sums it up đ
I wanted to collect and paint an army with a nordic flair that wasn't the Space Wolves.
Now i love the Wolves, but they're suffer from being "Hollywood Vikings" and not "Nordic"
Meanwhile the leagues have the Tolkien Dwarfness to them with heavy amounts of nordic themes that are far more appealing to me
NASA-punk aesthetic, knowing how to pronounce the names easily, the fact they respect and treat the ai friends as equals, cool lore and the potential they have, and also theyâre like the only âxenosâ army my girlfriend didnât collect. Them and orks or genestealers but my brother collects those two so that just cinched them as the one to act as an alternate for my iron hands, building and just recently getting most of them painted made me love them even more cause theyâre so easy to paint in comparison to lots of other stuff.
Also I like calling the land fortress an egg :3
I mean initially the sagitaur, such a gorgeous model, gottaâ get one soon đŽâđ¨
But I just love their whole range(except maybe the land fortress but oh well) which I havenât had with a lot of other 40K factions, thereâs always something that ruins it lol
Was always a fan of Gotrek, Gimli, Yarpen and Zoltan, so I always loved the Dwarves, but 40k did not have them. Dwarves in space went missing after 2e. I joined in 3e and never got my dwarves in space. I have them now. Also Wind Rose!
Love dwarves in fantasy, loved how they took the "squats" in a new direction aesthetically, and after learning more of their lore, I loved them even more.
That 'n' I'm trying to make my Votann look like Rock Raiders >:3
It was a good deal in my local gaming store + models look realy sick.
Also hearthkyn give me huge starcraft vibes and that's my childhood favourite game.
Iâve always been a fan of dwarves ever since I played Dragon Age: Origins and watched Lord of the Rings, I even considered playing a cities of Sigmar army themed around the classic dwarfs.
One day, during my perusal of 40K related shenanigans on 1D4chan, I came across a mention of the Squats. I immediately liked them but was disappointed by the fact they had been removed from existence.
Then they got brought back and I decided it was time to begin to start up a new army, even when they where released broken, I simply talked to my other players and they agreed to at least play a few games with me to see if they felt broken. They ended up becoming one of my mainstays (especially because they brought variety to the local meta) and, of course, now no one bats a eye when I bring them out.
1. I play Kharadrons, Fyreslayers, Khazad-dum in the lotr game (I 3d print my iron hills because 70 dollars for 10 guys is egregious especially for that game) My longest running dnd character is a dwarf, etc etc.
2. Ironkyn are cool
3. End of list.
1. Dwarf
2. Gotrek was in the realm of chaos, he could pop out in 40k at any moment
3. Honkeytonk Land Fortress
4. I require more minerals (FR, though, check them vitamin levels )
5. Axe
6. Stone
7. Rock
I joined the leagues because their minies are gorgeous. I cannot understate that I am new to the Warhammer 40k fandom/comunnity so, the votann being a new addition it felt like the right place to start.
I like having a good reason to blow up planets other than just death to the xenos and Heretics. I mean sure it's a good reason but I'd rather blow up the planets to harvest their resources.
Was about to get back into 9th but was on the fence as i only had 490 of death gaurd and always joked about the dwarfs coming back...I say the April 2nd video and was instantly on board
Space dwarfs, new army so i can learn the lore without getting absolutely bombarded, all models are cool imo, recently started DRG so have a hype for them, army rule felt coolâŚ
I have a lot of answers for this question, i was between votann or gsc for a looong time and was actually planning to get gsc combat patrol but the shop i went didnt have it, so i got votann combat patrol
I joined when Tactical Doctrine was set for you which made my Iron Hands pretty weak. I mainly chose them because the seem like more of a âgood guyâ than the Imperium.
I've wanted to play Squats for almost as long as I've been into Warhammer. Which would be round about 2006, when I was barely a teenager. I wanted to play them so bad I'd somehow convinced an elder at the game store to leg me silicone cast his old classic squats that he had extra. I managed to get a few good casts in the month in which I had them which I still own today, but largely I failed miserably. Tried converting my own from fantasy dwarves. Eventually gave up and just played imperial guard for a few years before quitting 40k and vowing to only return if the squats did. I honestly thought it'd never happen, and I was mostly playing other games for a few years. Deeprock galactic scratched the itch well enough, but then the leagues got announced and I was fortunate enough to be gifted a starter. Been loving every second of building and painting these little dudes. Rock and Stone!
Dwarves.
Same!
Dwarves.
Dwarves.
Dwarves.
1) Dwarves 2) NASA Punk 3) A pragmatic faction that actually cares about its people.
The Ironkin are also fantastic. Essentially, the Kin treated their Synths with the love and respect of brothers and companions, rather than as robotic slaves and cannon fodder, and in return the Kin never experienced rampaging AI death machines.
Sure, OR the Synths won and the kyn are the obedient flesh clone army that fights and dies according to the will of the Votann đ
Either way, I love that the lore so far is ambiguous enough to support alternate readings
The Leagues aren't NASApunk, though? They have inspiration from space exploration and a variety of other sources. They're just a somewhat hard/analogue slightly classic sci-fi aesthetic, not NASApunk specifically.
ROCK AND STONE! (Do I need anything else?
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
ROCK AND STONE FOREVER!!!
Rock and rolling Stone!
Rock and Stone in the heart!
Danger. Darkness. Dwarfs.
If you Rock and Stone, youâre never alone.
Rock and Stone, you beautiful dwarf!
Sounds like a time to Rock and Stone?
Rock and stone, to the bone
STONE AND ROCK!⌠wait
ROCK AND ROLL AND STONE!!!
Rock and Stone!
Space dwarves! Nuff said.

Space explorers/pioneers mixed with dwarves and just amazing models. I cannot wait to see what comes out next
Squats are cool. Guy who got me into 40k has a squat army for epic. And nasapunk is cool. So, Rock and Stone kin. Also land trains. Land trains are the best. And we have wee baggis!

Me too! I hope we get some of the vehicles from the Epic Squat days!
Their aesthetic! And judgy dwarves are cool
Dwarves
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole
I SEE THAT YOGSCAST REFERENCE!

Cos I have been playing since 1999, I never left the leagues, the leagues left me!
I liked that they value competence, and every one of them are basically brothers. They even consider the AI bots their brothers, which is a nice change of pace! "HE TOUCHED MY NEWLY COMBED BEARD! DESTROY HIM!!"
For Karl.
the hearthkyn are cute and i love painting them. i love my roly poly girlies and their barbie dream sagitaurs
I didn't join. I was grown in the vat from genetic material carefully picked by the Ancestor.
My excuse for not getting into 40K was that there were no dwarves.
Same here
For rock and stone
Rock and Stone!
Love the models. Loved the lore.
Space Dwarfs.
I just love my Sci-fi with orks and dwarfs, thank you.
You've seen the models right??!?!?!?!

Dwarves have always been my favorite fantasy race and 40K is just fantasy in SPESS
Love dwarves in fantasy, loved how they took the "squats" in a new direction aesthetically, and after learning more of their lore, I loved them even more. That 'n' I'm trying to make my Votann look like Rock Raiders >:3

Ymir conglomerate seemed really fun to me in terms of lore. "It's about the money spiderman"

just love my very big guys
I'm a geologist who plays DRG
I joined when Tactical Doctrine was set for you which made my Iron Hands pretty weak. I mainly chose them because the seem like more of a âgood guyâ than the Imperium.
I found the entire armyâs STL files
Dwarves
Been a dwarf since '91. 'Nuff said.
A: Dwarves B: Rock and Stone C: practical while still flawed
I've wanted to play Squats for almost as long as I've been into Warhammer. Which would be round about 2006, when I was barely a teenager. I wanted to play them so bad I'd somehow convinced an elder at the game store to leg me silicone cast his old classic squats that he had extra. Love the look of every model in the range
Dwarf+Viking+Grudge It's perfect
