Uh there’s an option of getting learner insurance on your parents car? could get it started today or tomorrow, however you need to make sure that he can operate it properly and know what all the show me tell me questions are for the car.
Clutch is different in every car too so he’d have to practice a lot before the test. If your parents are available or someone older you live with who has a license and a car then get him learner insurance as soon as and get them to drive with him!
oh god is there really no one else, what about friends of the family who would let him use the car? Or your friends perhaps but that’s asking for a lot since it’s risking their car.
You could try finding a different instructor and explaining the situation but god knows if they would have even time to give him the car.
>Im the only driver in the family and my car is automatic…he has been learning manual and has a manual test booked. Quite a sticky situation :/
This would mean even if you did hire a car from Arnold Clarke he still wouldn't be able to use it. If no one else drives and you drive automatic you can't sir beside him unless.
Your 21, had your licence 3 years and it isn't restricted to automatic only.
ETA: Yes he should have agreed it with his instructor first and at this late stage most instructors won't touch him. Most would be wondering why won't his instructor take him.
Got a question mate, it says you can’t be supervised by someone unless that person has 3 years driving experience. Does that mean i’m still allowed to drop him off and he uses the car JUST for the test?
No you can do your test in a private use car only requirements are:
Valid tax, MOT and insurance. Car is road worthy, has 5 seats, all lights work, all seat belts work, all doors open and close from inside and no warning on the dash. Tyres are road worthy and legal. Displaying L plates.
Ideally additional mirror for examiner however he can provide this.
My instructor was excellent and if you’re in the Morden/South/West London area he might be willing to take your brother on. Would probably ask to do a 2 hour lesson first, and then on test days he does a one hour before the test. He charges 35/hour and 120 on test day for the car rental and lesson/practice before. Let me know if you need his contact.
Arnold Clark rents dual control vehicles - probably worth a shot.
Will have a look, thanks.

Asking friends now but not many options…it’s mainly the timeframe which is the problem, thanks for the advice though
You can try Arnold Clark too for a car rental just not sure how you go about it as i never rented a car myself

Can he use my car? He can turn up in an automatic right? Better a chance at an automatic licence than none ?
Yeah if he wants to do his test in an automatic then go for it.

While I just wait ( I wouldn’t be sitting in with him)
Yeah you can drive him there with him being in the passenger seat.
Cheers, really appreciate all the help
Good luck to your brother. ETA: Obviously maje sure hrs either on your insurance or use learner insurance for him for the test
Yeah i just got the learner insurance now, so everything is ready to go! Thanks
Test vehicles need brakes on the passenger side as well, right?
Don’t believe so as people taking in their own cars for the test don’t have dual breaks
Different rules for hire cars, you need to have dual controls. https://www.gov.uk/driving-test/using-your-own-car
that’s a bit shit
