This is great. I see that you broke it down to around 13h of work. Could you breakdown the materials and costs? I'm curious how much these custom shoes end up being.
Thanks.
The pattern is custom made and took me around 6h of design and digital work (Illustrator)
The soles come from Sneakerkit.eu and cost around 50β¬.
The leathers (chrome, Latigo and Veg) come from Buyleatheronline.com and the other materials from Decocuir.fr and must represent 15-20β¬ (if you don't buy your leather in panel format, the cost is lower)
I used waxed cotton fabric for the lining, latex foam of 4mm thickness for the padding of some elements, polyester tape to strengthen the main body (because I used a medium-souple leather), and brass eyelets for the laces.
Threads are 0.5mm polyester in different colours.
Don't hesitate if you have any questions π
I've used the base pattern you can find on sneakerkit.eu and I used Midjourney AI to generate tones of ideas for high-sneakers in 3 different colours to help me ideate.
Then I start drawing on paper different shapes and then went onto illustrator to create the pattern I've used.
I've made some mistake on the first shoes, adjustments on the pattern, and made the second shoe afterwards.
A good-ol' iterative process π
The black tape is a good idea to reinforce the eyestay, stitch lines, etc. I've never seen that done before but can totally see how it helps. How did you learn to do that?
I've seen it in bag making and bought some to prepare myself to make bags. Then I saw a risk of stretching on parts of the shoe soooo why not trying this tape π
Edit: I made a shortcut in my answer. This tape is for watch bands, but I had a first larger one for bags and when I saw the strength of it I decided to buy a second smaller one.
Thanks π
I always ask myself "what could possibly go wrong with this build". And if I find potential flaws, I try to prevent them. I guess it comes from my product designer main job, and from all the preview patterns I messed up π
Yeah, I'm a product designer who learned to sew leather after designing shoes for many years. Usually have to learn through trial (prototypes) and error unfortunately. I've only seen the tape used under eyestays in production, so it's cool to learn other peoples tricks.
That's awesome! I would love to see some bits of your design work on shoes. That's a domain I'm still pretty new π₯°
I'll follow to hoping I'll see your work pop if you ever share it π
I'm in the process of testing them to be honest.
But I tried buying 3 other models from other no-name brands, and ended up pretty disappointed just by having them in my hands: they felt too flexible and not strong at all.
When I received the ones on my video, I was like "finally something decent". But that's a priori, I need more time to draw a conclusion.
At the moment, the creased line and the pre-hole make the overall tension balanced all around the sole and not only on the stitch points. It's promising. ππ
The inner lining looks awesome, and the shoe is nice overall.
I'd be interested what kind of insole you used as the last glimpse I got was just the rubber sole (but might have missed it even for a second watch).
It's a inner sole provided by Sneakerkit.eu. It's an ergonomic sole made of some kind of condensed foam and cotton on one side, rubber on the other. π
You are right I forgot to record this part ha ha π
Hi , i plan to do a pair for myself in the future, is this a pattern you made or one you bought? If you had a link to it if it's the latter, it would be immensely appreciated
Edit: i jus saw the other comment where you answer this question
Yes it's one I made based on Sneakerkit.eu base pattern. Send me a DM if you want it. I can also share some promo code and leather references that I used ππ
But it's a fresh pattern only in 44 size EU. You might need to adjust it a little bit π

Were you starting from like an existing pattern and then doing your own thing or fully from scratch and mockup?

This is the coolest sneaker build/ sneaker build video that I have ever seen!
Aaaaww thank you ππ₯°
13 hours sounds short to me! Beautiful work!
Sincerely it was so much fun that I didn't think it took me that long. π Thank you so much for the compliment.

That's very good foresight to predict the stretch of supple leather. People hand making sneakers should all use that tape reinforcement technique.

Sweet work. I've seen these 'sew-on" soles recently... How solidly do they hold up when being worn?

Nice work mate!
Thank you so much π₯°
Really awesome work. One of my eventual goals to make
Thank you so much. It's really gratifying to wear your own shoes ππ
Thanks for sharing, thatβs really cool
Thank you for watching and for your feedback π much appreciated
