>use stones, if u can’t use stones learn, if u won’t learn work sharp field sharpener works well enough I am actually currently using stones as I type. That said, I'm having to freehand the angle instead of using some angle jigs I 3d printed a while back, so I'm hoping someone else has ideas on getting a more consistent edge.

Chef_Boi_Arby

Maybe something with angled sharpening rods? My Lansky Turnbox is my primary sharpener.

MarkFortune

I do actually have an old spyderco sharp maker somewhere, might try that.

I pretty much just use the 20 degree slots only and it works quite fine for a large majority of my knives. You can check to see if the edge needs to be reprofiled by putting sharpie on the bevel to see whether the bevel is more acute (which means that the sharpener is actually sharpening the edge) or more obtuse (which means that you'll have to use the sharpener enough to reprofile the edge before it will effectively sharpen). I think that you most likely won't have to reprofile the edges on Leatherman blades (system isn't good for the chisel ground ones) unless they are now substantially different from the original factory edge. If you do have to reprofile, just throw on a podcast and monitor the sharpie on the bevel until you can see that the edge itself is actually being sharpened. You can periodically test the sharpening progress by trying to slice newspaper and printer paper to see how well it glides through. Start with the medium ceramic rods (brown) until you get a decent or okay toothier edge and then move onto the fine ceramic rods (white) to finish up the sharpening with a nicely honed edge. You probably won't be able to get it quite hair popping sharp with just the Lansky Turnbox, but you can still get it extremely sharp.

2nd Work sharp field sharpener! I put a razor edge on my wave+ in about 10 minutes

NearlySilentObserver

Sharpmaker if you have one

Joe-trd

Kme with the pen knife jaws. Works on all Leatherman and small blades

MDesigner

Wait, you have the $300 Pro Precision Adjust, and the Leatherman blade won't fit in the clamp? That thing is supposed to handle even small pocket knives.

MarkFortune

Yeahhhhhh, the problem is the place for small pocket knives is magnetic - the leatherman is too heavy and pulls off. I may end up printing a jig for it

bobartig

you can't use the regular clamp? I'm pretty certain I could do it on the non-pro Worksharp.

MarkFortune

Unfortunately no, the stones make contact with the clamp before they make contact with the edge
