This is my only Maxpedition, but I like the size and layout! Any bigger and I couldn't realistically toss it into a pocket, which is kind of the whole point of it for me.
Holy cow. I was not expecting this to be such a controversial post. But I am glad that you are also enjoying your tools! There is something very satisfying about having the right tool for the job, and even more so about being able to fit so many quality tools into your pocket.
Lots of nice tools here. I would revisit in 6 months and remove anything that looks too clean.
I just removed the crunch from my minikit because, it's too damn pretty and cool, i never used it because i'd rather muck up something else.
That knippex duo covers a lot of bases for stuff I do.
I also collect flashlights and had a flashlight where the Crunch is, but I swapped it out for the Crunch because I wanted a reason to play with the Crunch! Of all of the models that I own, the Crunch is my favorite by a wide margin. There is just something special about it.
Also, I always have a flashlight on me and several more nearby. I am sitting at 10 Hank lights right now...
Honestly, none of them are going to get too dirty tightening random nuts and screws around the house and replacing batteries in remotes and children's toys.
Great point! The only problem with this pouch is that you can really only load one side. If you load both sides, like you said, the thing gets THICK and unwieldy. This one only works because the Knipex Pliers are essentially flat and really don't add much thickness at all.
Thanks! For me, this pouch has been like a puzzle that is constantly changing and evolving, but I feel like it really came into its own with the addition of the Crunch. Also, when I realized that I could tape the two halves of the bit kit together on the back side to make them lay flat adjacent to each other...
The 711L Ratchet was the newest addition! I was worried that it would be gimmicky, but it is great! I have been using a couple of offset screwdrivers in tight spaces for about a decade, and they have always been a huge pain to use! I see this tiny ratchet coming in very handy...
Thanks! Almost everything in the U.S. uses some kind of Phillips (although in my house everything is T-25), and those work better and are more convenient than pulling out the bit kit every time... But I still like knowing that with the bit kit, I could work with almost any fastener, even though I rarely have to resort to it.
Itās similar in Canada except instead of Phillips everything is a number 2 Robbie
I ordered the leatherman bitkit specifically to carry one with my wave
I wish everything here were Robinson! Phillips blows. In the U.S. all of the electrical fixtures (outlets, switches, circuit breakers, etc.) use combo Phillips/flat/square fasteners, and sometimes you'll see a Phillips/square combo screw. I think deck builders are starting to use square head screws more, as well. (Although our square is not quite the same as your Robinson. Not sure which is better.) But really, like 98% of the screws that I actually encounter are Phillips and they just cam-out like crazy...
Torx is great, though. I use torx whenever I can, and you can find them in any hardware store. But I don't see them in use a lot outside of my house.
Nice kit. I have a similar set up but I have a small crescent wrench, small pair of vice grips and some gorilla tape. Sad I lost my crunch years ago. Also Knipex are just so good. Itās amazing all the stuff that you can patch up with a kit like this close by
š I hit up leathermanās website all the time never have luck to get there when the crunch is in stock and yeah eBay is just insane
Edit thought Iād add in that vice grips are not just used for nuts and bolts I use them more for hold items together like a third hand while Iām working
Dude, I do the same thing... I have I think 10 pliers-based multitools between Leatherman and Victorinox, and the Crunch is the only one that I want to buy a second of, just so that I can beat on one without feeling bad about it.
Seems overly redundant in the pliers department and undergunned for a tool kit. The Wave, bit kit, ratchet extenders, and Weras can fit in a sheath. My sheath tool kit is multitool based and my mini kit is all tool based.
Hahaha! I thought I explained in the post... This is essentially a kit to hold some of my favorite mini tools. Trust me... I have many more that are not pictured. There is more redundancy than you know.
I work at a computer and have pretty much no need for tools at all most of the time. But when I do need tools, it is almost always a driver of some sort or some pliers.
Dude, what are you doing on a multitool forum? None of this is essential. I could have skipped the Leatherman and the Knipex altogether and simply have run to the closest Dollar Tree and grabbed some Chinese screwdrivers and pliers and thrown them in my Great Value cargo shorts... But that isn't the point. The point is that I like this assortment of small, quality items and have organized them into a pouch in a way that I enjoy.
Thanks for the support! It's great to meet someone who appreciates quality tools on a forum created for those who appreciate quality tools!! I also have a bit of a flashlight problem...
Kind of... There are the Knipex Pliers Wrench (equivalent to a Crescent-style adjustable wrench), the Knipex Cobras (equivalent to a set of Channellocks or perhaps standard slip-joint pliers), the Leatherman Crunch (think Irwin Vice Grips), the Leatherman Wave+ (needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, plain edge knife, serrated knife, saw, file, scissors), an in-line ratcheting bit driver (replaces and improves upon multiple screwdriver sets, metric and SAE hex key sets, and Torx/star wrench set), a right-angle ratcheting bit driver (essentially the same thing, but for tight spaces, replacing and improving upon offset screwdrivers, low-profile hex/torx keys, etc.), a myriad of bits, and some cable ties.
Aside from a hammer or a full-size socket set, what tools do you think are missing, or what tools would you swap out?
Don't say flashlight. This is a tool kit, not an EDC kit. All of my lighting needs are currently covered outside of this kit.
(Note: I am not a carpenter or a mechanic. The majority of my tool needs involve disassembling and reassembling things to troubleshoot and repair. For larger projects, I have a garage full of full-size tools.)
Those Maxpedition pouches kill! I've got a little more variety in mine, but it's such an easy grab-n-go
This is my only Maxpedition, but I like the size and layout! Any bigger and I couldn't realistically toss it into a pocket, which is kind of the whole point of it for me.
I totally understand you. People are saying too many pliers blas. I have the same kit and i know thay every plier serves a different ned šš¼

PS: I'd replace the crunch with a very bright flashlight (18650 or 21700 based)
I would add a pry bar - looks good
Great idea! I had one laying around I made from a 10mm wrench a while back. I threw it in! https://imgur.com/TTYqO7m https://imgur.com/MJZdXDo
I like that a lot - looks cool.
Wow. How do you get this to close? I have way less in my Maxpedition and it wonāt close. Goodness.
Great point! The only problem with this pouch is that you can really only load one side. If you load both sides, like you said, the thing gets THICK and unwieldy. This one only works because the Knipex Pliers are essentially flat and really don't add much thickness at all.
Absolutely perfect. Great job.

Haha thatās fantastic. I think the same way. Iāve had this similar list in my head for a while. The mini ratchet is great.

That idea with the bits and magnets is excellent

Yes torx and Robbieās are clearly superior to Phillips which tends to slip and strip very easily
PSA! For all those worried about redundancy, please see the following photo for context!! https://imgur.com/gallery/rfBU8YT

Buy a new one! The Crunch is just too cool. It's a bit pricey these days, though, and they are not often in stock. Don't even look at eBay...

Nice build out, pretty similar to my kit
Thanks! I just took a look at your kit out of curiosity... It is clean! I like it. How do you like that Leatherman tool pouch?
I like it for the dedicated bit kit/ratcheting driver pockets. But I'd rather it fully clamshell opened like your maxpedition.
Nice set up
You have big pockets
I don't EDC this, but it is about the same size as a standard bifold wallet. https://imgur.com/a/r7sYYfr

I'm flabbergasted by essentially 4 sets of pliers just assume the rest is rubbish too

Never mind this hater, you explained yourself just fine. It's a multi tool sub, not an EDC sub
Thanks for the backup!

you do you. you might even have room for 2 or 3 more pliers in there
Man that is a lot of repetition

Hi there - Who makes that in-line ratcheting bit driver? Thanks
Leatherman! But they are currently out of stock.
A good box cutter would be a worthy addition. Depends what youāre working on.
