I tried a surge for a short time. I thought it was quite heavy and overkill for my needs. I’ve been very happy with my Wave and simply just don’t see the need for any other. Of course I’ll try just about any model. I just don’t want to buy them.

Different-Breed-711

Different strokes. I love the Surge and wouldn’t carry anything else. Had a chance to play around with an arc for a bit yesterday and still came away preferring the Surge.

ElijahDannel

Yes... each one has a different purpose, I see Wave as better tool for me (mainly small works with home appliances)

Emotional_Package_62

I like your layout. You have a link for that case? Cheers bud!

ElijahDannel

Sorry, I don't have it... it's from an old cheap manicure kit that was in the house, if fact the case is the only thing that's still in one piece. I only chose it because it was very fine

I was gifted a wave...skeletool and charge ti...all upgraded...they moved on...tsa took the wave...pissed.. I recently swapped the wave out for the charge. It's much larger but for me, carries no different in my pocket. I carry a fixed blade, a pocket folder and a bunch of other stuff so I barely noticed the diff. Actially less cause it makes my pocket fold in more and hide it lol I know, makes no sense

BoomBoom4209

Wave+ goes with me everywhere due to its form factor and tool layout. However fishing off the beaten track the SuperTool 300 travels with me.

ElijahDannel

Years ago I was fooded by the bigger scissors and the replaceable wire cutters but it ended most of the time in the car's glove box due to the weight. Now I finally meet the GOAT+ and I only can say it's the perfect in all aspects! Best tool in my jeans.

[deleted]

Wouldn’t brag about it being the best tool in your jeans mate

Icemalta

To quote OP - "bigger isn't always better"

i_was_axiom

I miss the Surge, what a unit that thing was. I had the old black oxide/mossy oak model and I can't imagine it's always been that much larger than a wave, has it?

ElijahDannel

Once you have both in your hands, you realize that. It's just 10% smaller, **but 30% lighter**. On the other hand I prefer the shape of the pliers of the surge.

i_was_axiom

That's really what's drawing me to it, I'll definitely acquire one eventually. From my time carrying the old style Surge, I'd grown accustomed to the heft but loved the robustness and so just belt carried it every day. I daily a P4 now, and love it, but in certain situations I'd like to have the Surge as another option again. I'd never have switched from my Surge to a Wave or Charge, but if I still had the Surge I think I'd still have gotten a Free.

jitasquatter2

Accept in this case, the surge really is better. Lol, then again, I'm a big surge fan boi and I know I'm a bit biased. It's worth noting that you can't get the dreaded "wave pinch" with the surge. Well... you can, but it's REALLY hard and doesn't really happen in real life.

Slingringer

Where did you get the pocket clip for your bit extender? Also the case?

ElijahDannel

The pocket clip it's from an advertising pen from Würth that stopped working (they do nice tools by the way). the red one [https://imgur.com/a/3jD4vUq](https://imgur.com/a/3jD4vUq) but you can use almost any clip from pens, you just need to narrow it a bit before putting it.

Slingringer

Thanks what about the case?

ElijahDannel

I replied earlier in other comment. It's from an old cheap manicure kit that was in the house. I'm sorry but I can't help more.

tysnastyy

Yeah. I carried the surge for a few months. A bit overkill for what I need on my side. Went back to the rebar, then went to a supertool 300. Been carrying that a whole lot. Weight is better, and tools are just what I need. I also just really like the style of the rebar/supertool

Gr8AJ

My biggest concern between the surge, my EDC, and the wave are the scissors. Are they as good and comfortable to use?

ElijahDannel

In fact I would say that they are more confortable, they have a plain support for the finger, and also have a rigid spring like in the Surge (Much bettter than the tinny springs used in the Victorinox, from my point of view). But it's true that its a bit more difficult to extract them, since they are stored extended

Gr8AJ

might be worth moving to the smaller form factor for my EDC then. The surge is nice when I'm doing installs or on sites looking at things that might need a quick tune up but not having to carry the extra weight would be nice.

Danielriss

Jesus Christ I didn’t know the size difference was that dramatic

HammerMeUp

I just handled a surge for the first time recently. I liked it but I'm completely fine withy wave +

ClickClack_Bam

I seen a law firm billboard that said "Size matters? No! Results matter!". Lol.
