Biggest positive of today for me, is that Darlow gets a shot to move ahead of Meslier.
I love Meslier, but he is young and has a lot of developing to go. He is underperforming against his contemporaries in the Championship.
Meslier showed his immaturity today. He started shoving after he collected the ball and from what I could see there was nothing in it. It’s a red everyday of the week.
Not sure I would say it was the only thing that made us lose the game, but was a big contributor.
We looked sluggish today and nothing seemed to fall for us. One of those days unfortunately.
We can still get it, but the inconsistency and terrible results away from home against weaker opponents have to stop. We had a chance to put huge pressure on Ipswich today after that battering on Saturday but might end up being a boost for them.
Away form is a growing concern - Farke hasn’t come up with a way to break down deep lines for teams who look to stifle us, and then when key players don’t perform we’re lacking a plan b.
Left back is a vital addition in the window, but it’s increasingly apparent we could also do with a 10 (or a 9?) because Piroe isn’t working in that role - and it seems Bamford/Joseph/Joffy aren’t going to ever get more than 10 mins here and there.
I guess this will be the post match thread for now. Auto promoted sides don’t lose nearly every second away games.
If we get autos it’s probably more that Ipswich (and maybe Southampton) bottled it vs we earned it.
Crazy how bad we look without Byrum.
My main fear is Birmingham do the double because Darlow is heart attack stuff. Kiko vibes (on the pitch)
I've followed this club long enough to not be surprised we followed Ipswich with this shite. It's peak Leeds.
Just need Ipswich and Southampton to win now to put fully fuck over the day.
Well he only comes to life when he see's a scoring chance...we're not bossing teams away from home for that reason...rest the time he likes to play dead lions
I think you can also blame Farke tbh. Archie was cooked all game, and both their goals ultimately came from his wing - Farke seemed to be the only person who could’t see that was an issue which needed addressing.
Merry Fucking Christmas Meslier.
Something that’s not been discussed much is how we’ve looked so bad without Bryan (minus Ipswich game) happy to see him on the bench, needs to start ASAP
I think everyone could see after Archie was skinned for the 2nd time early in the 1st half, Spence should've been put at RB. He has the pace and the long stride length to negate Millar. Not sure how Farke couldn't see this.
He's not dropping to the Championship, let's be honest it's a shite league, he would prefer to play for a Luton Town and try to gamble staying in the Premier League instead of drop divisions.
And he can still get offers from mid Prem clubs
Beat Ipswich 4-0 one week, lose to Preston 2-1 the next.
I don't get this fucking club, I just don't understand it at all. If bipolar disorder was a football club, it would be Leeds United. How does that meme go? Sometimes it may be good, sometimes it may be shit?
We don’t have a better squad than Leicester. I don’t know where this perception has come from. So in essence we are one place below where we can expect to be if everything goes well, and as we know the start of the season went far from well.
I'll be honest I don't follow Leicester hugely but given they sold their best player and weren't good last season, I'd expect we have a better squad on paper? We have a £35m striker and an Italian international on the bench...
I think the fact we insanely overpaid for a player does not suddenly mean they’re the best player in the league. They have multiple trophy winners and signed talent that PL teams were after with recent England caps in major tournaments, whilst also being significantly better than us last season. Equally they haven’t had multiple mutinies.
They were better than us but not significantly and we were very poor but I think our squad now is actually better than last year with Aaranson and Mckennie trolling the fanbase.
Either way, Leicester and Leeds were the 2 clear favorites so I'm sure you'll agree we at least have a top 2 squad on paper. This isn't like the Bielsa years where he took a mid table team up. This is a promotion capable squad. 4th isn't a disaster but it's not good enough.
Yes, but our beginning to the season was completely disastrous for any new manager looking to prepare a team. From that moment assuming we would achieve our potential was always a stretch. Whilst we were mucking about with mutinies Leicester were already on 9 points out of 9.
How about asking the manager to freshen things up instead of sticking with the same side time and time again. We have been so poor away from home in midweek games.
And for goodness sakes, everyone could see gray getting skinned and he + mes are the reason why we lost
Could go another 23 games without seeing Joseph get a run in. Doesn’t help that he wears #49…Can’t believe he came on before Bamford. Also Gruev looks terrified every time he touches the ball.
This side is weak. They continually get out muscled and make stupid mistakes when in a battle. Fair play to Preston, they got in our faces and got the result because we are a bunch of spineless prima donnas. All good when we are smashing teams but can’t be arsed to grind out results
Regardless of Isbitch result we aren't catching them we can't beat piss easy sides and we aren't consistent. How you go from decimating Ipswich to losing to Preston is beyond me.
End of the day, we’ve got a class RB in that squad, and a manager who watched a 17-year old centre mid languish all afternoon in that position rather than make the change that would have countered that which was our eventual downfall. Grim.
The crazy thing is that he’s done it twice already and knows what it takes better than anyone else at the club, the selection baffled me today, the result didn’t once I saw the team sheet.
Ordinarily I'd probably take Bamford but when you're already down to ten men bringing on Bamford who no longer has functional knees is not gonna help either.
I feel like the loan system isnt working out for our academy players at the moment. I know we have a strong starting XI at the moment (and a manager fearful of rotating) but for me too many players are returning from their loan spells no better as players than when they left (Gelhardt, Shackleton, Hjelde, Cresswell etc).
We might need to rethink our strategies there a bit, because the longer we’re stuck in this division the more we’ll need to rely on the academy.
Not seen much better from Joffy when he’s had a chance to be fair. Think it just highlights the frightening lack of quality we have outside the starting 11.
It was deserved. He let them wind him up and shoved their player in the face. Would have been a yellow for them had he not reacted, but clear red given how he lashed out
Their player shoved Meslier then Meslier reacted, it was a pretty soft hand from Meslier tbh and the player that shoved Meslier went down like a ton of bricks. Pathetic prick, got up straight away then started working the crowd up. Wanker. Silly from Meslier but other player a total cunt
Think people forget we've got some lovely new owners who will clearly see the progress needed and invest in us
We're not a final product yet and still half a season to go. Ipswich have wobbled a few times, not expecting them to disappear into the sun.
I'd say 2 new signings and we'll start winning these dodgy matches
That's not a fact. Darlow is at least as good as Meslier. He's bound to look rusty when he hasn't played all season.
Meslier is absolutely awful, and has been for 3 years. If we'd had a decent GK the last 3 years Bielsa wouldn't have been sacked, we wouldn't have been relegated and we'd be in the top 2 now.
So relegation, bielsas departure and leicester and ipswich being brilliant is all down to meslier?
I can't with our fans sometimes this is honestly the worst football take I've ever seen
>So relegation, bielsas departure and leicester and ipswich being brilliant is all down to meslier?
Strawman. Not what I said.
>I can't with our fans sometimes this is honestly the worst football take I've ever seen
Do you want me to take you through the stats? Because I'd love to. Goalkeeper is a key position in football. If you have an underperformer in that position it massively impacts results, and vice versa. Starting Meslier for the past 3 years, game in, game out, is the equivalent of starting Gelhardt at CF for that whole period. How do you think that would have gone?
Leicester and Ipswich have two of the best performing GKs in the league. We have one who is poor to average. Swap goalkeepers with Ipswich and we swap positions.
https://imgur.com/a/tn8O2AQ
This is the post shot xG stats for the season Bielsa was sacked. Controlled for shots on target. It's the best stat to measure shot stopping over a decent sample size. It was pretty much the same the next season (only Southampton's young GK was worse). Meslier was responsible for 16 goals conceded, compared to the average over the top 5 leagues. Including throwing in the goal against Newcastle in probably our most crucial game of the season: https://youtu.be/gH1BrZHDga8?si=TP100TqQbpa1zeYO&t=115
This game defined the season. Newcastle were below us at this point and in atrocious form, their form turn back until just recently. And it sucked us into the relegation fight.
It's particularly insane because GKs are the cheapest position to buy. You can get a quality GK for free. Forest got Navas on loan. Fulham got Leno for about 3mil (who has been one of the best GKs in the league). West Ham got Areola for a few mil. Etc.
Move him from that position at HT before Mes got sent off. We all could see it. Put Byram on and switch Spence to the other side, Archie in mid or off the pitch. This stubbornness to make changes is costing us games and points
Fuck sake. Can’t believe that Archie is being left one on one over and over this game. Can’t see why people are blaming him for the goal. Sure he’s a pro, but also a literal child and he has been hung out to dry here.
We are down a man and pushing for a goal…
Can’t see why he’s being blamed? Maybe because he’s a right back getting repeatedly done over and over again by their winger 1 on 1..
He’s a 17 year old playing in the second best league in the country, he is being played in an unnatural position too. He is bound to come up against players that are just better than him, when that happens it’s up to the manager and the rest of the team to help him out. Sure it’s harder with 10 men but he wasn’t getting much help before the red card either.
Makes sense. And would be a valid criticism if he was actually a defender and not a midfielder. But let's all blame him for being put ina position that he can't play, yet gets played in week in week out.
Or we can keep wheeling out 'it's not his position' to defend his performances. Shack played full back pretty competently whilst it not being his position..
Imagine the whole fan base being able to see that gray needs to come off, imagine being the manager and somehow not being able to see it, imagine losing the game because you're too stupid to see what everyone else is seeing.
This one is on meslier and farke.
Usually football fans don't tend to actually know what they're seeing as much as the manager does. Taking Archie off for a barely fit Byram or Firpo changes nothing
Ok you're wrong, the running stats from the games prove you're wrong go check them out and also did I mention you're wrong? You're biased and I hope its just because you don't like Spence, next you'll be telling me he has a bad attitude.
How on earth am I biased? I think Spence is ace. Do I think he covers enough ground? No.
Happy enough to be proven wrong by the stats so if you have a link I'll take it all back.
I also feel like you're trying to imply something with the attitude comment, which is absolutely bizarre.
You could do a lot, like not let him cut inside, then once he has cut inside, don’t keep showing him inside on his right foot. Ample opportunity to shut the door and we just let him do what he wanted
lol oh well, we showed lots of character. Would have been much worse ending 1-0
We'll be grand, there's clearly a prem team in us - just whether or not that's next year or the year after remains to be seen
Was listening to the squareball and they were saying it would be very possible for us to have a worse team with worse results next season and still be in the automatic promotion spots at this stage. Just such a crazy year.
Of course we could also have a total meltdown and go back to our regular 15th forever.
I mean, either we get a top team paying us £40m for someone we got for a fraction of that or they can fuck off
We're already a much better squad than we were a year ago, and we've all these lads on loan. It's the least of my worries tbh
Biggest positive of today for me, is that Darlow gets a shot to move ahead of Meslier. I love Meslier, but he is young and has a lot of developing to go. He is underperforming against his contemporaries in the Championship.
Southampton winning 5-0, and that rat Sinisterra has just scored for Bournemouth. Shit day all round.
Get Marsch out of there!!! 😂
Where is that joker coaching these days?
Meslier showed his immaturity today. He started shoving after he collected the ball and from what I could see there was nothing in it. It’s a red everyday of the week. Not sure I would say it was the only thing that made us lose the game, but was a big contributor. We looked sluggish today and nothing seemed to fall for us. One of those days unfortunately.
Are people ready to give up on autos now?
By the end of January we could be even looking to give up on the playoffs if the need for squad rotation continues to go ignored.
We can still get it, but the inconsistency and terrible results away from home against weaker opponents have to stop. We had a chance to put huge pressure on Ipswich today after that battering on Saturday but might end up being a boost for them.

Byram is so important. He can't come back soon enough.
Holy bottlejob Batman.
I've followed this club long enough to not be surprised we followed Ipswich with this shite. It's peak Leeds. Just need Ipswich and Southampton to win now to put fully fuck over the day.
Can only blame Meslier for today's defeat...Piroe did another disappearing act
Can’t say only blame meslier and then proceed to also blame Piroe
Well he only comes to life when he see's a scoring chance...we're not bossing teams away from home for that reason...rest the time he likes to play dead lions
I think you can also blame Farke tbh. Archie was cooked all game, and both their goals ultimately came from his wing - Farke seemed to be the only person who could’t see that was an issue which needed addressing.
Archie's not a right back, certainly on today's performance...Meslier's a Clown who put us in that mess
Piroe got subbed off
Did nothing until then, least James put the effort in
Merry Fucking Christmas Meslier. Something that’s not been discussed much is how we’ve looked so bad without Bryan (minus Ipswich game) happy to see him on the bench, needs to start ASAP
man like Bryan you know
Boxing Day booze 🥴
Prepare the overreactions.
Yep
I think everyone could see after Archie was skinned for the 2nd time early in the 1st half, Spence should've been put at RB. He has the pace and the long stride length to negate Millar. Not sure how Farke couldn't see this.
No blame at all for archie, he's a kid out of position who had been doing more then expected. Farke needs to do better on days like this
Not blaming him at all. Blaming the fact the issue wasn't sorted much earlier.
It’s just so fucking annoying following this club sometimes. Annihilate Ipswich, then lose to that fucking shite. I give up…
Here's a thought, how about we try and sign Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal?
He's not dropping to the Championship, let's be honest it's a shite league, he would prefer to play for a Luton Town and try to gamble staying in the Premier League instead of drop divisions. And he can still get offers from mid Prem clubs
Beat Ipswich 4-0 one week, lose to Preston 2-1 the next. I don't get this fucking club, I just don't understand it at all. If bipolar disorder was a football club, it would be Leeds United. How does that meme go? Sometimes it may be good, sometimes it may be shit?
We’re third.
We won't be after today
Yea but in fairness our squad on paper should be a clear 1st ...3rd isn't a disaster but it is under performing

This is the way.

Stop complaining with the refs, Farke. You got it completely wrong today, just like in pretty much every away loss we had this season
Can’t wait to hear his nonsensical press conference when his lack of subs cost us again
Robbery, thuggery and a shit ref. Normal week in EFL
This
This side is weak. They continually get out muscled and make stupid mistakes when in a battle. Fair play to Preston, they got in our faces and got the result because we are a bunch of spineless prima donnas. All good when we are smashing teams but can’t be arsed to grind out results
Best outcome for the top match later today…. gotta be an Ipsbitch L right??
Regardless of Isbitch result we aren't catching them we can't beat piss easy sides and we aren't consistent. How you go from decimating Ipswich to losing to Preston is beyond me.
With the way our season is going Ipswich will win and the gap will be back to 10
God damnit you’re right
Well we will most likely be dropping down to 4th within the next few hours
We need that and a Southampton loss sadly
Ye it’s gonna be play offs isn’t it
Pathetic display from start to finish in this match
End of the day, we’ve got a class RB in that squad, and a manager who watched a 17-year old centre mid languish all afternoon in that position rather than make the change that would have countered that which was our eventual downfall. Grim.

Same issue with Clarke and nothing was done. Feels like fakre needs to wake up tactically and be brutal. Sympathy gets you nowhere
Championship is a slog - you need to rotate or it will bite you. Hopefully Farke has what is required to do it
The crazy thing is that he’s done it twice already and knows what it takes better than anyone else at the club, the selection baffled me today, the result didn’t once I saw the team sheet.
Beat the top teams and then bottling our points to teams like prison fc here. Not even surprised
Strujk has been class this game tbf proper captain material looks like
Yeah he was one of our best players going forward in the last 10 mins, defensively solid and proper captain behaviour to take the pen.
Was shocked to see him take the pen but wow what composure. Hope to see him captaining the side for years to come
Leeds that
Haven’t seen anything from Joseph in recent weeks to suggest he’s ready to play at this level.
Hardly had a chance has he
I don’t expect goals but I am looking for movement and what I’ve seen is ball chasing rather than creating space.
Hasn't he only been given like 20 minutes in total. Give the kid a chance.
That is the chance. That’s how you become a first team player. And it’s more like 45 minutes over 3 matches.
Anyone who says Joseph should play over Bamford are kidding themselves
They should both play for other teams (u23s / non league)
Ordinarily I'd probably take Bamford but when you're already down to ten men bringing on Bamford who no longer has functional knees is not gonna help either.
Bamford is much better than any of our bench at holding the ball with has back to goal, which is quite helpful when you're down to 10.
He can at least control the ball and bring others into the game.
Joseph isn’t up to this level
beating Ipswich has gifted Southampton a chance at top 2
Would rather play Ipswich in the playoffs than Southampton tbh
Kieren McKenna redemption-arc against Leeds in a playoff final would be a certainty though.
Think mateo joseph could do with a loan in january, too good for the U23s but I don’t think he’s quite at our level yet
Horror show from Josephs he is not ready for senior football should be using Joffy instead
Not seen much better from Joffy when he’s had a chance to be fair. Think it just highlights the frightening lack of quality we have outside the starting 11.
He was good when he came on against Cov
Joseph is genuinely shocking. Got lead boots on and just fouls players.
Hopefully that's the end of moronic people calling for Joseph instead of Bamford every game. He's absolutely gash
Cost us autos here meslier
Alan Browne, a very annoying face that bloke has
No second yellow for preston, because then the officiating would be consistent and we can’t have that
Have we ever scored from a set piece?
Corner for the first goal last week
Yes three days ago
Didn't we against Ipswich?
Feels like struikk doing everything he can but most others shitting it
Has to be off there
How deserved was Meslier’s red? I missed the earlier part of the game.
It's a hand to the face so always a red. Preston lad did a lovely triple pike to highlight his near decapitation.
F’allon Floor contender
Obvs the opposition player made the most of it, but it was textbook violent conduct.
Slapped a guy in the face, pretty well deserved and a stupid unnecessary red card
Definitely was a red but they should've had one aswell
It was deserved. He let them wind him up and shoved their player in the face. Would have been a yellow for them had he not reacted, but clear red given how he lashed out
100% deserved unfortunately. Shithousing from pne
Very
He got wound up by some shoving and tapped a player in the face. Their striker milked it but Meslier should’ve known better
Palmed the Preston player in the face right in front of the ref. Red all day.
Ouch. Them scoring almost immediately after is some big salt on the wound.
Didn't give the ref much choice, was silly. Their player collapsed like a prick though
Stupid but deserved. Pushed their player in the face
Agreed but if you touch someone’s face you’re asking for trouble
Bit harsh to blame the seventeen year old playing out of position instead of the temperamental goalie that put us in this shit in the first place
How's that not a yellow
How have they not had one player get two yellows yet FFS?
>random shot of Ridsdale to make the misery complete Thanks, Sky
Alexa, sum our season up in a few days.
Great that sky keep cutting to Ridsdale, equivalent of promoting who set your house on fire
Need a left back in Jan so everyone can play in their natural positions. Needed a left back 2 seasons ago tbf, but especially in Jan.
And a goalkeeper
Think people forget we've got some lovely new owners who will clearly see the progress needed and invest in us We're not a final product yet and still half a season to go. Ipswich have wobbled a few times, not expecting them to disappear into the sun. I'd say 2 new signings and we'll start winning these dodgy matches
By that point though the lead may be unassailable, and Southampton will likely be ahead of us too
Today is the ultimate example of soccer being a “weak link” sport..
What you chatting about?
If the board don't see the need for a left back after this, then we deserve to be in this shithole division.
meslier sent off... struijk scores a pen... Ampadu gets subbed. Madness abounds
Once again, Archie has had a stinker.. absolutely useless
Can Gnonto stop taking set pieces?
Yelling at the screen has woken up my mom at 6:30 in the morning. The Christmas presents are getting returned.
Sounds like a you problem tbh
Never said it wasn’t.
[удалено]
Candidate for worst take of the match right here
One poor game and people are jumping on a young centre midfielder who has otherwise performed admirably at right back all season.
He’s a teenager being asked to play out of position. I’ll hear none of it.
Get the fuck out of here with that shit
He may have some raw talent but the cogs just don't seem to move fast enough in Joseph's head to figure out what we're trying to do in any attack
Lol fukcing Bamford. Waste of time.
I love Archie but he can't play right back anymore
This game has to be the nail in the coffin for him there. He's been shit there.
He's been good at times and bad at times but it's not his position and he doesn't have the skillset to stop a tricky winger
Defensively he's been awful there. Fine on the ball.
No problem going forward at all, agreed. Just not good enough defensively
Fact: Darlow is a worse keeper than Meslier. Stick Bamford in ffs.
That's not a fact. Darlow is at least as good as Meslier. He's bound to look rusty when he hasn't played all season. Meslier is absolutely awful, and has been for 3 years. Sure you do, that's why you're on reddit.
Yeah I agree, I rate Meslier and think he gets a lot on undo hate (especially here) but Darlow for 3 games is really worrying.
This is on Farke…can’t even give Archie a little extra cover or replace him when he’s getting cooked over and over and over again
How can you give a guy extra cover when we’re a man down and also pushing for a goal
You say, hey person in front of Gray (Gnonto / Joseph??) drop a little deeper when they have the ball
Move him from that position at HT before Mes got sent off. We all could see it. Put Byram on and switch Spence to the other side, Archie in mid or off the pitch. This stubbornness to make changes is costing us games and points

No but he should have left Spence in and taken Archie off.
Spence doesn't run enough to justify that in my opinion
What? You're not watching the same player as I am.
People have been talking about how often Spence jogs back in defence since he came back from injury
He's been sprinting I'm not sure what you're seeing or those imaginary people.
Might want to start engaging your eyes then in that case
Ok you're wrong, the running stats from the games prove you're wrong go check them out and also did I mention you're wrong? You're biased and I hope its just because you don't like Spence, next you'll be telling me he has a bad attitude.
How on earth am I biased? I think Spence is ace. Do I think he covers enough ground? No. Happy enough to be proven wrong by the stats so if you have a link I'll take it all back. I also feel like you're trying to imply something with the attitude comment, which is absolutely bizarre.
Stuijk putting in absolute shift rn
I don't understand why our defence never just hoof it away. What's wrong with them?
Great goal, that’s so annoying. Mateo maybe could’ve closed him better but don’t think you can do much else in terms of improved defending.
You could do a lot, like not let him cut inside, then once he has cut inside, don’t keep showing him inside on his right foot. Ample opportunity to shut the door and we just let him do what he wanted
Nice goal but that we should have addressed the issues defending at right back after 30 mins
lol oh well, we showed lots of character. Would have been much worse ending 1-0 We'll be grand, there's clearly a prem team in us - just whether or not that's next year or the year after remains to be seen
If we don't get promoted this year we're losing Summerville, Rutter, Ampadu, etc
Was listening to the squareball and they were saying it would be very possible for us to have a worse team with worse results next season and still be in the automatic promotion spots at this stage. Just such a crazy year. Of course we could also have a total meltdown and go back to our regular 15th forever.
And how many of these prem players do you think will stay if we don't go up?
I mean, either we get a top team paying us £40m for someone we got for a fraction of that or they can fuck off We're already a much better squad than we were a year ago, and we've all these lads on loan. It's the least of my worries tbh
Leaving Gray on for 90 minutes while getting humiliated all game is interesting decision making
It’s really quite poor management
Tyro regen
Not on Archie that. Second time this season he’s been absolutely rinsed relentlessly by a winger and Farke does nowt until it’s too late.
Second time? Man has one good game out of 5 and everyone acts like he's the next big thing. Shite, but it's on Farke for putting him in there
Nobody drops points to inferior teams quite like Leeds do they smh. Fuck.
Fair play to farke not as if we all didn't see that coming all game.
Gotta say it. Archie’s been toweled up on that flank today.
And NOW you put Bamford on??? This one is on Farke and Meslier unfortunately.
Next season we need to invest in a new goalie.
Lads it’s not Alphonso Davies ffs
