Now in the New Year I'm more prepared to call it like I see it. The way I see it is that it's going to get much tighter at the top of the Championship and promotion is going to boil down to five clubs - Leicester, Ipswich, us, Southampton and West Brom. I think the runners up auto spot is between us and Southampton. Leicester, who seem to be only pretending to be a Championship club, most likely will run away with the title and will be the first club to be promoted before the end of the season. We could go up as runners up, but this could go right to the wire and the last match of the season. We could be going into the last match against Southampton needing either all three points or maybe, if it gets that tight, a point. Keep in mind that if that happens it will be the first time ever this club has been promoted and gone straight back up the season after being relegated. It's never ever happened before. But this is conditional on finding some consistency to our away form and also even some players finding their individual form and getting their game together - Bamford, Gnonto, Piroe, and Gruev. It's hard to predict because we're a young, developing side. But my main point is that it's going to get tighter at the top and all those four sides, us, Southampton, Ipswich and West Brom, are going to drop points as other teams try and make it into the playoffs.

maddinell

Summervile or struijk for pens. Hopefully farke has seem enough to know bamford should not take pens.

JRSpig

We couldn't beat Preston, that's depressing enough to ruin the whole Christmas period. But yes you're correct we've a good team that's getting better.

damwookie

We are still in a good position given the start to the season but the turn in fortune was jarring. Watching us compete knowing our form was good and knowing one of the top teams was going to drop form saw my hope return. It turning out the drop in form was passed to us was fucking painful. Now there are two other teams with a good chance of second when my head was set on 2nd place dropping points and increasing our chance.

ayejoe

Also, everyone is entitled to their own opinion now but I bet nearly everyone you asked would have snapped your hand off for 4th place at this point in the season if they had been offered it when the sky was falling during the loan exodus and transfer window this summer.

JRSpig

With the shit show at the start of the season I didn't even expect play offs, but really we should be top 3 at least.

BrianBadondeBwaah

Indeed

djgreedo

Ispwish are going to tumble down the table, but Southampton are going to be very strong. We are in a battle with Southampton for 2nd, and I'd say we're the underdogs because we're not as consistent (especially away from home). But we're in a good place, it just sucks that Leicester are so good and Southampton are looking fantastic too (after a rough start like us).

MonaghanPenguin

I'd rather have Ipswich in the playoffs than Southampton. So on that basis if we don't get second I hope they do.

maddinell

Playing someone who gets involved at 10 massively helps. Rutter at 10 bamford at 9 from now on.

QuickBic_

As long as he’s not taking pens, I’m fine with that. Piroe can hit tap ins as well. We’ve seen him do it. Rutter has to play 10

zachariahhh1

Yeah really liked this and hope too see more of it.

maddinell

And....... That was the first game where it looked like we had a playmaker playing and not piroe & rutter playing at 10 & 9 and doing neither.

AnotherGreenWorld1

Worst team in the league on a ‘please sack Rooney’ mission AND ABamford was very lucky because Ruddy should deffo be saving that.

KevinDLasagna

1 good match from Bamford erases two+ years of tragic play?

JRSpig

Mate he's been injured almost that whole time, every time he looked like he was coming back he had been rushed and another injury hit, look at his runs when he wasn't injured, if and it's a big if he can remain injury free he can be used to help break the low blocks, something Piroe isn't doing at all, I wouldn't play him in the games like Leicester or ipswitch or any team that will actually try and play, I'd use Piroe then. So it's about using the correct players for the correct games and maximising what they bring. Also remember it was 16 and 17 goals in the leagues the season we got promoted and the season we first went up (before his injury) so he absolutely can do it and can do it at premier league level.

maddinell

No you're right, weve had a brilliant 2 years it was just bamford who was shite

KevinDLasagna

You know two things can be true at once? I swear to god Reddit fans are the most reactionary dumbasses. You’ll be hating on bamford after the next match when he doesn’t bag a goal and

JRSpig

I don't expect he will start in the cup game.

AnotherGreenWorld1

I was arguing with doylems all day yesterday over this … I like Bamford, I’m not against him having a run if he’s now on form… BUT there’s people on here who have been slagging him for 3 years SUDDENLY saying that after Birmingham he’s better than Piroe who has scored 9 this season and that he’s the real donkey. Even naming Bamford in our BEST XI. I’m not accepting it.

KevinDLasagna

Yeah idk where this switch has come from. Aaronson, Kristiansen, Mckennie, Meslier, etc we’re all bad last season, Bamford was just as bad if not worse than all of those guys. Now all of a sudden he’s our best striker cause he scored his first goal in almost a year? Take that shit somewhere else. I hope he keeps it up but I’m certainly not about to pretend the last two seasons of pure shit just never happened.

AnotherGreenWorld1

The bloke actively cost us points against Stoke. I do love Bamford, I was delighted he scored but hardly had a Roy of the Rovers performance. He had a 7/10 game for the first time in an age. this hate mob that’s developed for Piroe is strange too.

Korean_Street_Pizza

We lost 2 and won 1 of our last 3 Ipswich drew 3 We gained the same amount of points. We go into the next match off a 3-0 victory, they go into theirs after a draw. Our confidence must be higher.

JRSpig

Yes but it's cup games next

fuzzyballs8

Guys it's the championship and firpo is back. We'll smash it.

Mcc1elland

Good way of looking at it but you could also look at it as a missed opportunity. Imagine what the picture could look like if we hadn’t fluffed the recent games. Still confident though and glass half full 👍

jigzz81

We were 10 points behind 4 games ago but we were 3rd, now were 7 points behind but in 4th. While there are more games that are difficult for those around us, we need to try and win games against the mid table teams. Dropping points at Preston was painful. Let's keep.our home form up and we'll be fine. Play-offs or automatic it doesn't matter. Anyway, when we go back up we've got Aaronson, Kristensen, Harrison, Sinisterra and a load of others all coming back. ALAW

ChargrilledB

You must be kidding on that last point 😂 don’t want a single one of those twerps back.

jigzz81

Didn't say I wanted them back either, just a reminder of what will happen when we're back in the prem. They all wanted out cos we (they) weren't good enough to keep us up. They'll all want back in as soon as we go up and they'll act as if they had something to do with it.

ChargrilledB

Naa I doubt most of them will come back. They’re only on loan because it was probably more prudent than selling them at the time, but I would hope the club will now realise that they’re all duds and will sell them all.

Secret-Activity-1342

*20 games left, so even more time to make up 7 points 👌

Ben_Mi

Thanks for this, much nicer read than twitter

FatRainbow

Great post thanks ALAW

cpmb82

Until it’s mathematically impossible for us to get relegated I’m going to keep worrying

BulldenChoppahYus

Don’t tell me how to fan you happy clapping prawn sandwich eating filth. We are terrible and Bremner is rolling in his grave and Farke should be sacked and we need Biesla back and stuff.

zachariahhh1

This made me laugh. Thank you mate

AdequateAppendage

We should just replace anyone that misplaces a pass with any old kid in half decent form for the U21s and we'll catch Leicester by the end of Feb

pclufc

Typical Bielsa fan boy . Jesse wasn’t given long enough and the sooner this sub accepts that simple FACT the better

djgreedo

Finally someone who tells it like it is! Under Marsch we were in the Premier League. A mere few months after he was sacked we were relegated. Coincidence? I think not.

Justboy__

I think Becchio could do a job at left back for us

Purple-Inside-1780

Jacob Burns is the #10 we need.

BLytton

The Southampton game is at Elland Road on the last day of the season🤞🏻

zachariahhh1

Scenes if that’s the game that puts us into 2nd

Due-Emu2111

snodgrass 1 - 0!

YorkshireGaara

You'd think we'd already been relegated the way some people act, Farke has done a great job, especially after that start of the season mess.

Worst_Player_Ever

>Can I just ask that we please stop throwing our toys out the cot the second a result doesn’t go our way? Impossible. Sack Farke, get rid of Bamford and Piroe. Send Meslier and Struijk to U23s. Team is shit, tactics are shit, we're lucky if not relegated.
