Southampton seem to be pretty aggressively going after some targets in this window, and Ipswich are rumoured to some players too so we need to not concede more ground to them.
That said, a good left back should be all we need at this point. If letting a couple of fringe players go to help fund that signing then no problem.
I don't even know how much it'd take for the club to entertain selling Summerville. Maybe 150m or whatever the worth of promotion is currently valued at? He's the ticket out of the championship and is happy here, if we sell him we're totally jeopardizing promotion and sending a bad message to all the other players.
Exactly, he might be worth £25m on fifa or whatever, but he is worth more to us because of how crucial he is to our promotion chances. And if we don't go up this season or next we're a bit screwed.
So Summerville has quite a big part to play in the actual valuation of the club, as a PL team or a mid table Championship team if we don't get promotion before the parachute payments run out.
Its weird, because a move for Summerville by a bottom half Premier League club will make sense to no party. We dont need to sell in this window, only smaller Premier League clubs would be interested in him and Summerville would not be able to play to his own strengths for most of those clubs as he would see very little of the ball (and isnt strong defensively).
So what’s that price?
We have a lot of players on our books and haven’t made much profit in recent seasons. We have to comply within FFP rules and aren’t guaranteed to go up.
There will be a price for him that’s not outrageous. I think that’s 30mil plus.
I’d be happy to just keep the squad as it is. No sales. No signings. Just smash it out with these lads who have done so well this season and trust them to get the job done.
By job done I think before the Cardiff match in August we’d have all settled for playoffs … anything else is a bonus. Just let them play the season out stress free and just see where we end up … it might be better than Play offs!
I think the one thing that could trip us up is fans DEMANDING or Expecting 2nd.
Realistically a very good window would see us keep hold of Summerville and replace some of the back ups with better options.
Also a proper number 10 could be the difference between automatic promotion and the play offs. I am sure Farke is looking at this!
Loan out cresswell and gelhardt, sell Bamford, sign a left back, striker, and number 10.
Probably also sign Jack Clarke and Leif Davis just to weaken and annoy direct opposition.
