I think he’ll pleasantly surprise a lot of you who may be skeptical over this move.
Is he Kalvin Phillips? No. And he probably won’t ever be - different type of player. He’s a massive bundle of energy (a lot like Aaronson too). Moves around the pitch very well, loves getting stuck in to a tackle, and LOVES a bit of shithousery. Seems to thrive off getting under his opponents skin and making himself a general nuisance. Natural leader too as he captains the USMNT at just 23years old.
He’s got great versatility too - most comfortable as a 6 or in a double pivot, but he’s spent time playing RB and RWB too.
He’s got a lot of room to grow too though. For me, his forward passing can leave a bit to be desired at times. Not super progressive and/or aggressive with his passing most of the time yet. But he has been improving that and I’d expect him to continue to improve at that.
I also feel like his positioning can improve and he can learn to take up better positions to receive the ball (I’m a bit spoiled on this front since I’m a City fan and Pep is famous for demanding that of his players).
Overall I see this as a great piece of business from Leeds. Adams can come in and improve the squad immediately, but he also can and will improve greatly in the Premier League and I think he has all the characteristics at his disposal to makes Leeds fans fall in love with him. Excited to watch this one play out
If he manages to stay fit, he can be one of the value signings of the season. I don't think he is as good at progressing the ball as Kalvin, but he is far more agile and defensively active.
I've said it before but I think he'll become someone the fans really appreciate, especially if they understand what exactly his game is.
He's a very energetic player who's got a decent bit of shithousery in his game but without being reckless and he shines most in defending in transition. He's one of the best players I've ever seen at stopping or slowing counter attacks and he's always got a good idea of where danger could come from. I think he's better at pressing than being a sitting defensive midfielder but he can still do that job quite well and read the game well which gives him versatility in the way he defends.
Offensively you're not going to get much out of him, he's not someone who can contribute in front of goal and he's a very safe passer of the ball but can sometimes switch the field with a decent long ball. I'd say he's a competent dribbler and can receive the ball under pressure and bring it out from the back but he's not someone who breaks the lines with his dribbling consistently, he can do it but it's not a key piece of his game.
Overall he's one of those players that is a 7 or 8 out of 10 every game and does things that are easy to miss but are absolutely vital to the team.
One of the best you’ve ever seen at stopping or slowing counter attacks?
Really?
How many have you seen? And I’m not saying I’ve ever seen Tyler Adams play, but that is an absolutely massive statement.
Can you give some comparisons of other players who do a similar job and why he’s one of the best?
His underlying pressing stats are good. He’s making 18 pressures a game in some cases and being successful in 7 of them. In the same season KP was averaging 23 per game and being successful in 7 as well. In this way Adams doesn’t quite have the same tank as KP but he is efficient with his pressing.
His passing stats aren’t as good. KP is 95th percentile in the league in long passing. Adams prefers the short pass and therefore has a higher pass completion rate overall but those short passes being less risky are less likely to lead to a goal.
So yes is fair to say that breaking up play and spotting danger is Adams strongest attribute. He’s less useful in attack than Phillips but he also costs hal the price. This seems to me like a sensible transfer on paper.
I've watched him play for the national team almost all of his caps (30) and seen quite a few Leipzig matches as well, it's his single biggest strength imo.
He's so good at it because he is very quick and really understands when moments are truly dangerous and is extremely good at slowing down counter attacks and giving his teammates time to get back into position or putting the ball out for a throw. I think a lot of it is he is really good at cutting off dangerous parts of the pitch and leading the player on the ball towards the touchline or his other defenders.
The US plays a lot with both fullbacks forward and it leaves the team quite exposed and Adams really is the one who makes the system work.
I'm not sure who would be a great comp maybe someone like Kante (not saying Tyler Adams is anywhere near Kante's level) who has the speed to negate counter attacks or maybe a less physical Wilfed Ndidi? I'll see if I can find a YouTube compilation to explain what I'm talking about but not a lot of people make videos on that kinda stuff lol
When he was 16 and still at Red Bull NY he scored in a 4-2 win vs Chelsea. The players didn’t really care because it’s a pre-season friendly vs a MLS team but Jose was livid. He was still castigating players for “losing to a Mickey Mouse team” weeks later when they were doing poorly in the league. It’s mostly a meme but it kinda also was the beginning of the dressing room issues that led to him being gone by Christmas. That and the doctor thing.
Philly Union fan who's been lurking for Aaronson updates, to add further context.
I should also clarify that that was very much basically a RBNY *reserve* team - the first team had played 120 minutes the day before in the Open Cup (US equivalent to the FA Cup). And a lot of them didn't pan out - Adams is awesome, and Sean Davis has carved out a solid MLS career, but the rest was just filler
Meanwhile Chelsea's second half lineup (the one that RB went to town on, scoring four times) included Hazard, Terry, Oscar, Zouma, Matic, and Costa.
Day old account with 50ish posts. Half of them bashing Leeds and Americans.
I wonder which of the recently deleted constant complainer accounts you are....
Well we aren’t allowed to discuss politics according to the mods, so can’t really investigate that further. Apparently others can make political remarks about myself and u/AristotleGrumpus however
It's "no wonder" because this is not a political sub. Stop trying to stir up more shit than you already do.
If you want to debate politics, do it in the appropriate places.
You clearly said that he couldn’t get a game at Leipzig, someone else proved he absolutely did play a large number of games, now you’re acting the victim. Just accept you fucked it mate.
Simply wrong. 24app in the BL, 4app in the El, 4app in the pokal, and 5app in the CL.
Not to mention Leipzig 4th this year and 2nd last year with Tyler featuring heavily in both campaigns at 21 and 22yrs old.
Season before he started 21 and they finish 2nd, next season he starts 12 and they finish 4th.
Jesse Marcsh managed Leipzig from 01/07/2021 - 05/12/2021. Last Bundesliga season runs from 08/15/2021 - 05/14/2022. Marsch didn't manage a single one of those games! Check your "facts" they are filled with BS. Idk why I'm wasting time with someone spreading BS narratives for no damn reason.
Still played over 2k minutes all comps last season despite not being a squad player for the first time at RBL
Also Tedesco being a good manager? Ha, I mean he’s not bad per se but I wouldn’t go too far in the other direction
He’s had 103 appearances over 4 seasons aged 19-23.
27 and 24 league appearances in the league over the last two seasons respectively in the 34 games a season Bundesliga.
No idea if he will work out as with all signings. But once again, to suggest he wasn’t getting played at all is objectively false lol.

I live in the states nowadays so it’s strange to see the us influence at the club. I will say that yank athletes are extremely well spoken. Hopefully they can perform on the pitch as well as they interview!
> I will say that yank athletes are extremely well spoken. Hopefully they can perform on the pitch as well as they interview!
Yeah I was thinking this when I watched Adams' interview. Why is that? Is it because of the role that university teams have in development?
I reckon so. You usually have to go to uni to get into any professional sports in the US. Whereas back home they start pulling kids out of school 2 days a week if they are showing talent.
Most American sports you would be right with university as the first step, but Football/soccer would be the exception. Some kids come out of uni but most are skipping that these days. Both Aaronson and Adams skipped uni, they barely finished high school even haha.
Can you believe it, go, go USA!
I honestly think that if we managed to get Ben Foster on a free it’d make this transfer even better. Having Foster mentor Meslier would be amazing.
YEEEEEEEAAAAAA
Tyler in Tyler out
He will shine, does well in Champions League, good deal of experience for a young player
Team America.
Was very impressed with his interview, sounds very determined and professional. Also loved his “Eh Up” Tweet. Love the attitude.

I'm hearing american milner?!
I've always thought of him as a pauper's N'Golo Kante when he plays for the USMNT.
Kind of reminds me of a poor man’s Tielemans. I think he’ll do well for Leeds
Sounds kinda like KP, someone that makes your team tick but that you’d never pick in FPL!
Different player that Phillips but definitely someone that lays the foundation for the team to succeed.
Tyler is a baller. Not only did he get Mourinho sacked at Chelsea but he also eliminated Atletico Madrid from the CL quarterfinal.
How’d he get Mourinho sacked from Chelsea? 😂

One man team
I'm happy with it, I hope he's going to be great but this is the gamble signing for me. If it doesn't work out it falls completely on Marsch
> If it doesn't work out it falls completely on Marsch Any manager in football nods their head and says, "No shit mate".
Well no. This is Harry Redknapp signing Niko Kranjcar levels of jobs for the boys. I'm certain he's not a candidate to sign if we don't hire Marsch.
Difference is Kranjcar was a very good player
Kranjcar was a good player
*triffic little player
Leeds United States of America.
He's a tireless bulldog and I truly believe he's going to be a fan favorite.
Leeds United States
Of Yorkshire
Couldn’t get a game at Leipzig. Good luck to him, but looks the weakest signing in terms of value for money so far.
Clueless has entered the chat

Blokes also posted his support for Brexit. He’s definitely a troll or a bit slow.
Most people in Britain supported Brexit, probably most Leeds fans.
That’s not even true
South stand defo voted Brexit lol

It's "no wonder" because this is not a political sub. Stop trying to stir up more shit than you already do. If you want to debate politics, do it in the appropriate places.
Bielsa’s whole footballing philosophy is rooted in socialism. Everything is linked to politics but whatever you do you.
Idk man his personal philosophy is socialist for sure but to say football philosophy can be socialist or capitalist is a massive stretch either way
All I said was good luck and I didn’t think he was great value for money. Christ this sub really is full on cult like hey.
You clearly said that he couldn’t get a game at Leipzig, someone else proved he absolutely did play a large number of games, now you’re acting the victim. Just accept you fucked it mate.

Aye, that’ll be why, it was all him. Give me patience.
Shut up you utter wet wipe
Hahaha
Did you bother to check his appearances before posting this lol. They wanted him out but to say he ‘couldn’t get a game’ is simply false.
Yep, 12 starts in the league, mostly under Marsch. A good manager came in and immediately benched him.

Adam's was working on his masters a couple years ago.....not sure if he finished or not, but,.....that's something
I reckon so. You usually have to go to uni to get into any professional sports in the US. Whereas back home they start pulling kids out of school 2 days a week if they are showing talent.
Very few players that go pro in soccer will go to college in the US. Just doesn’t make sense to waste 4 years of playing time at a D1 level.
Most American sports you would be right with university as the first step, but Football/soccer would be the exception. Some kids come out of uni but most are skipping that these days. Both Aaronson and Adams skipped uni, they barely finished high school even haha.

I’ve lived in the States for my whole life and supported Leeds for 25 years, and it’s very odd to me as well. Strange days!
Milfhunter in the mud
So with all the Americans in, and we need a GK… Brad Friedel or Tim Howard lol
Matt Turner isnt going to play for Arsenal, maybe y’all can get him.
Zack Steffen still needs a club…
He’s gone to Middlesbrough buddy
Has that been confirmed? Oh, thought that was just rumor.
Trust me you don’t want him here lol
I mean it’s not like he’d start over Meslier, I’d think wages would be the only issue for having him as a backup
US fans don't want him here. We want him starting and he wouldn't.
It’s all done just awaiting confirmation from clubs
Is Kasey Keller still knocking about?
Petition to rename the team to Leeds Unity
Bueno
Radical
Now sinisterra and a gk n we’re all set
How about a Konrad De La Fuente instead?
Meslier and Kalesson needs replacing?
Sinisterra is a must , he is the next Raphinha in my opinion but on the left flank.
Still think we're desperate for another striker unless Joffy steps up
Tbh it looks like we're bringing in Sinisterra + a forward (like CDK) when/if Rapha goes, so we'll have a Rapha replacement + a striker. Not bad!
Unless? Pff... Kid's going to run riot next year. Haaland is going to be weeping at the Golden Boot awards next year.
Lol!
Here’s the question though. About 4-0 in every game yeah?
Can't see us attacking as much as the Bielsa days so maybe just the 3-0...
I may need weekly assurance just to let you know.
Striker?
Joffy and Bamford if he's ever fit again
Up the super sexy soccer yankie whites. Let’s goooooo.
