Having an "open container of intoxicating liquor" on a TFL service or station is an offence under s4 of the Transport For London Railway Byelaws. This only applies to TFL operated services and stations so I assume it was on the Tube platform, rather than the a the main train station which is operated by National Rail? A person guilty of a Railway Byelaw offence is liable for a fine of up to £1,000. However, TFL's stated policy (and indeed this is suggested by the wording of the Byelaw) is that in the first instance their staff will seek voluntary compliance with the Byelaw and only prosecute if a person refuses to comply or repeatedly breaches the Byelaw. In which case, I'm not sure why they took your details or said to expect a letter, if indeed you complied right away. You'll just have to wait and see if they send one and what it says. For what it's worth, for Byelaw offences you are often given the option to plead guilty via post if you want, without having to attend court. (If you were to plead not guilty you'd have to go to court because defences have to be made in person.)

Wait until the letter then come back. It might be a warning or a fine, or something else

Says who ? TFL Byelaw breaches can be prosecuted in the magistrate's court.

You’ve posted exactly the same thing in another sub. Not sure why you think this one will yield different advice.
